Bungie looks to fix the mistakes of Destiny's first add-on with House of Wolves
destiny_dlc1.0.0.jpg

With Destiny's next batch of downloadable content, the House of Wolves add-on, Bungie is hoping to right many of the mistakes the developer made with The Dark Below, game designer Luke Smith said in a recent post on NeoGAF.

Smith, responding to another post that expressed concerns about changes to upgrading exotic weapons and purchasing new vendor gear in House of Wolves, wrote that "mistakes we made with the [The Dark Below's] reward economy will not be repeated." Smith said he was specifically referring to gear from vendors invalidating the efforts of Vault of Glass raids and exotic weapon upgrades resetting the item's talents.

Bungie's philosophy on doling out loot to players will continue to evolve based on player feedback, Smith said. The developer aims to "lessen the grind and get players to the fun parts of their arsenal faster."

"We sat down and talked about the rewards for [Vault of Glass] and the rates vs. [Crota's End] and ended up with the following: Increase drop rates globally in [Crota's End]; we wanted dedicated players to be around 32 or real close by the time Hard mode came out; [and] increase the variability of perks that a given piece can roll," Smith wrote. "
The goal here: Players would reach 32 easier than 30, but would have more customization and options to build the perfect set (in terms of stats, perks, weapon affinities).

"The part where this didn't work as well as we'd hoped is with the Shard economy. Shards are a are a barrier between you and equipping a sweet new piece of gear."

Since launching Destiny in September — and The Dark Below three months later — Bungie has continued to tweak the game's economy, drops and materials in an effort to alleviate player frustration. For a guide to maximizing your playtime in Bungie's shooter, check out Polygon's guide to Destiny in just five hours a week.

Destiny's second expansion, House of Wolves, is due sometime this year and is part of the game's season pass.

I wish they would fix the controllers to have a player number like the 360. Hate that they changed that.

Xbox One owners looking for a deal on Electronic Arts games have a good opportunity to save on a handful of games right now, including Titanfall, Battlefield 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, EA Sports UFC and more.

Some of the price drops for Titanfall are too good to pass up. The main game is just $10 on Xbox One right now with the deluxe version just $12.50. A season pass for the game is now just $6.25, if you already have Titanfall. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and EA Sports UFC are also just $10, while Peggle 2's Magical Masters edition comes in at just $4.95.

The better deals appear to be games bundled with DLC. The deluxe edition of Dragon Age: Inquisition, Polygon's game of the year for 2014, is $41.99, down from $69.99.
Here's the list of EA game deals on Xbox One. You may need to be signed into Xbox.com to see the following sales prices reflected.

Fuck I paid full price last week.

Have MS released the free games for Xbox One in February? They need to step up with some quality games. I downloaded Injustice and Infamous First Light for my nephew PS4. Those are two quality games. MS needs to give us Striker or something decent. I doubt they're Dead Rising or Rome on us anytime soon.

Some 2D 8 bit indy developer bullshit called "It Draws A Red Box". All this new-gen processing power and they keep giving away these cheap ass web browser games.

They ask Phil Spencer about better free games every month. And he keeps giving us cell phone games :lol:I don't know when this shit is going to change. I just hope this indie game fad passes quickly. There are some good indie games out, but most of them are trash IMO.

joystiq.0.0.jpg

AOL is planning to close its decade-old video game publication, Joystiq, in the coming weeks as part of a plan to jettison "underperforming content properties," Recode reports, citing multiple sources familiar with the plans.

A post on Joystiq itself this morning confronts the report, saying that "we may as well handle this the same way we've been covering the video game industry for ten years."

"Sources tell Joystiq that the staff is aware of the closure, but corporate hasn't officially told them, so they are unable to acknowledge anything out of concern that it will cause immediate shutdown," the post reads. "We've reached out for more information. We will update, as we always have, when we know more."

Joystiq was founded in 2004 as part of the the Weblogs network, which AOL acquired in 2005 along with sister sites like the tech-focused Engadget. Several former Joystiq staffers are also founding members of Polygon.

to be fair...PS+ subscribers are just renting their "free" games

Since you have to have a online subscription for PS now you basically own it if you know what I mean. Either pay for the online subscription or you're missing out.

There were some really good indie games last gen. Hell give us Doritos Crash Course 3. It can't be too difficult to bring over a dozen or so arcade games from last gen. Call it the best of XBOX arcade promotion.

I hope they plan to bring back summer of arcade. But by then I'll be on Arkham Knight.
