That's fucking pitiful! I've worked in the consumer electronics industry, and anything beyond 3% that gets pass the factory Q/A checks is considered a complete abortion! At 10% line failure, before they even leave the factory, fucking heads start to roll and suppliers are given the boot. 16% at the consumer level! Holy shit!!
Later in the article they say 16% is a UNDERESTIMATE and that the failure rate is probably higher since some people bypassed Squaretrade and were serviced directly by Microsoft.
Damn...
Oh and I've heard about modding it and adding cooling fans, and keeping it flat, and all the other bullshit you need to do to prolonge it's life
Here's some other things you want it to work for more than a year.
Don't forget to also ...
- Sit it on a block of dry ice
- Keep your room a 20% humdity and 65 degrees.
- Install a laminar flow air circulation system in your room.
- Sing gentely to XBOX at night.
- Don't just startle XBOX, kindly whisper into its CPU that you're going to insert a disc in its drive before playing.
- Compliment XBOX on how good it looks before you get ready to play it.
- Tell XBOX its means so much more to you than any other system you've ever played.
- Tell XBOX it prettier than PS3.
- Don't feed XBOX after 12 and never EVER get it wet
- Don't look at XBOX the wrong way, it doesn't like it.
- Don't talk disparaginly about XBOX while it's in the room, it doesn't like that either.
Man fuck that shit ... My Atari 2600 NEVER had a problem just playing for hours on end.
My NES, after I damn near collapsed a lung blowing on the catridge, it worked just fine once ON.
My PS2, never a glitch.
XBOX, what a hunk of shit.
Red Ring of Failure
Is your Xbox 360 still working? You must be one of the lucky ones.

Over 18 million Xbox 360s have sold through since the console's launch in November 2005, but just how many of those are still working? Squaretrade, a company that specializes in providing warranty support to purchasers of electronic goods from various manufacturers, claims 16%of Xbox 360s experience a hardware failure within six to ten months after a warranty purchase.
