OK you have two things going on. The financial discussion and the family discussion.
Financially you will always be in better shape if you're married. That's just a fact. I don't want to hear any of the anti woman bullshit you hear from certain dudes in here. If you don't want to be married that's cool but let's not say marriage is evil or all women are out to get your money, etc etc. You dudes want instagram models but wonder why they act shallow and foolish. Choose better. Also remember my household costs me half of what it would cost you because I'm married. Mortgage, food, clothes for kids, vacations....all half because we share expenses. That's the benefit of marriage aside from the companionship.
From a family perspective that depends on the individual people. However all things being equal a two parent household has more time to devote to kids than a single parent household. While my wife cooks I can check homework. If I work late she can pick up the kids...etc etc.

I actually disagreed with the article, because its not marriage or lack of marriage that is destroying our families its really our minds sets... I said it was the immature minds of the many males and the selfishness of women that makes marriage impossible today.. And to throw a monkey wrench in the situation they actually give women a financial incentive to be a single parent...
This is not anti woman, this is the truth to the situation that we face, especially as black men...
In this country very few understand and take seriously the institution of marriage and being both a mother and father, so even if they were to get married, doing it the wrong way would not solve anything...

some of the worst single mother parents out there are some of the most ugliest women you would ever want to meet, show me one of these models who burnt their child or had them frozen in their fridge..Bruh You can find suits everywhere. Take some disadvantaged kids like I do your successful, get some of your successful friends and talk with these kids and show them what you all do i.e. Tech, Doctor, I have my cousin who works with the Prosecutor's office come and speak to the kids about staying in school and why its best to stay out of trouble.

I've helped parents get their stuff together. I've given a way up and out a bad neighborhood for good. I make sure I'm suited and booted everytime I speak to the kids. I tell them I sat just where they were. I take em out bowling, we go swimming I give them exposure to better. I have them interact with different groups so it won't be as shocking and they won't let someone else's negative interaction influences their own. In order to scratch the surface you should know Black history, going way back before slavery, then you must understand and know European history going way back to the birth or Christianity, then you must fully understand how the human mind works especially behaviorism, and the developmental stages of the infant mind, then you should have some knowledge of both global and local economics as well as politics..
By tippy toeing around all of the pertinent shit you need to know, the article and others like it merely offers a quick fix solution that, in real life only trivializes our situation...

Road Rage I've studied out. I came from the house starting kindergarten confident I could read and write. I never had a confidence issue. I didn't need Malcolm X to tell me I was special. 1- Single parent households tend to have a higher rate of children on drugs and arrested... Yes or NO?
2-Marriage is an institution that was originally created to insure the safety and well being of children... Yes or NO?
3- Over the past 40 years the government has taken over the roll of the protector of the children replacing the institution of marriage... Yes or NO?
4- During this period of time crime and drug use has soared while education level dropped in black neighborhoods... Yes or NO?
Now use your educated mind and answer these question yes or no... Now if you answer no, please submit the stats and evidence to back you claim.
Of course that's the ideal of the family structure we'd like to live up to but it's just not the reality we live in.
And no marriage won't fix poverty for black people.
That article assumes a lot (some have touched on parts of it already) and it's all just a clever way to spin personal responsibility, aka bootstrap theory against black people.

Unmarried Equality (UE) released a new report, Let Them Eat Wedding Rings: A Report on Marriage Promotion and Welfare Reform, to comment on the misguided attempts to end poverty by using welfare dollars to promote marriage. The report, released January 28, shows that marriage-promoting policies harm more children and families than they help.
“I’m very concerned about the families who are already being punished because of their marital status,” says Dorian Solot, one of the report’s authors and the Executive Director of UE.
Marshall Miller, the report’s co-author, adds, “Promoting marriage may be done with the best intentions, but it is simply unfair to discriminate against families because they’re not married.”
Solot says the title of the report is significant. “You can’t feed your children wedding rings or pay your electric bill with your marriage license. Weddings for poor people might make us feel good. But let’s stop pretending they can substitute for poverty-fighting programs that have been proven to work.”

Welfare reform’s priorities should be the reduction of poverty, improved well-being for poor children and adults, and respect for families of all kinds.
Recent studies prove that marriage is not an effective solution to poverty.
International comparisons demonstrate that there is no clear relationship between marriage rates and child poverty.
That there are many complex and understandable reasons why people are not married.

One thing I can say is that the institution of marriage was invented to protect children by creating a system of accountability and responsibility towards the kids.. However since the 60's this institution of the protection of the children has been replaced by the government and now they are the ones who has the final say so on how to raise your children and wife..
In the process they have also created a system where the child word has more weight than both parents and the wife more than the husband (a complete 360 from the old system) and as a result of this newer system, crime has been up, broken families way up, drugs up, education way up...
And if anyone talks negative about the system or even questions the system itself, they are immediately labeled as anti female...
So its true that marriage isn't the cure to all, its more like the institution of marriage and traditional marriages, one that are there for the well being and safety of the children is whats lacking and can be one of the biggest contributors of the black race, over the past 40 years..
