Wow Texas power grid is really fucked up and I do blame the Republicans

On the fix rate. Isn't it based on average power used or something like over a certain period. And if you leave and change power companies you will have to.pay the difference if you are over that average on the last bill or if you switch back to regular billing?

The fixed rate will have something like 9.6 cents a kilowatt plus a energy delivery fee from 5.95 to 9.95. They have contracts that range from 6 to 24 months. If you change during the contract you will be charged a 150 to 200 fee. The only exception is if you move then you won't be charged to switch. During the summer my bill always goes up but only about 20 to 30 dollars a month due to the higher energy usage.

The variable rate plans means you will get fucked in the summer months or during a time like the past week due to the rates skyrocketing.

imagine your job raising money from people to pay your salary
lmaooooooooo
Corporations do it daily. Have fundraisers to help outside charities for public image while refusing to help their own frontline employees. Then try to guilt the same employees into donating because “they should be lucky they have a job”.

Maybe the sheep will wake up one day, but I doubt it will be before it is too late!

I was on Griddy in Aug 2019.
In one week, Houston had some weird surges where it did I hit $9 a kwh, I paid $450 that "week". I switched so fast and went with Energy Ogre. For years I've played with the yearly plan jumping. Too much of a headache. It's not simple. Because "this" rate is if you use under 1,000kwh. Once you are from 1,000 to 2,000 then you fall into "this" rate. Every year companies change and it's best to jump. At one point Ambit was best then they fell off.

My average winter bill now is $50-70.
Summer I pay about $220 the highest. I have two A/C units. Most months it's under a $100.

All my bulbs are LED and TV's as well.

why did he pay that shit?
If it was Griddy, there's no way to immediately stop it. They auto replenish your acct as soon as it hits a threshold. Think mine was like $40, they hit it for another $50 or $100. I can't remember.

But as soon as it hits that low, they hit your card. You can't remove your card from their system. Can switch to another form of payment but it's not a quick process. They know what they doing. Have tons of people pissed when there are extremes like this. I was on Reddit reading hundreds of complaints when it happened to me.

Wow. So who's to blame? Are the utility companies lobbying the Repubs that run Texas. Also are Texas residents allowed to install solar panels on their homes?

There are plenty companies that have fixed rate plans. Griddy advertises these cheap rates but the kilowatt price aint fixed so there's a good chance of getting fucked during peak times.

It's really the residents fault for signing up for the plan. I always do fixed plants. During the summer bills may get up to 100 dollars a month.

Don't think it's a politricks thing. Both sides are the same man, they both on the take when it comes to energy.

As for solar, of course you can and some do. I was on the fence about it but some things I learned about it, can be costly is why you don't see them on every home. If others on the board know better, then chine in. But from what others I've seen online say is, upfront can run 30-40k and after 10 yrs, you're going to be replacing panels. So cost saving, is really not the greatest.

There's companies going around saying they would do everything for free for you and you finance the cost thru time over 10 yrs and with your "savings" it pays for itself. But seems madd fishy. Cause one salesman leveled with me and said I'm doing LED lights and all that, he said if your current bill is so low, solar ain't doing nothing for you. So I didn't bother looking at it again.

That isn't what he said.

That's why you NEVER give access to your accounts to any company. Bank of America online banking works just fine.

There's more than one way to do solar. You csb buy them outright. You can lease to own the panels. You can let the company use your roof and you buy your electricity from them usually at a lower rate than the local power company.

The savings you see and the break even point if you buy the panels outright depends on how much you usually pay for electricity. Here in NY we have high rates so my panels might break even for me faster than if you get them and in general pay lower rates.

I had looked into getting solar for my house but I missed the cut off for a lot of the subsidies Obama had put out.

This type of shit is the very reason why I refuse to use auto-pay.

I remember, back in the early days of autopay, like 2003 or something, I payed a bill but I used a different card. Now, they had my other card on file for autopay but I forgot to remove it.

The card I used to pay took a while to process for some reason. These motherfuckers hit my saved card 3 times, overdrawing my shit & causing all types of havoc.

Come to find out, they saw the original payment but didn't recognize the card, so they hit my card on file for the autopay. They had no justification for the other two times (which all happened within hours of one another).

I cancelled them motherfuckers, that card & I've never done autopay since then. Hell, I refuse to even give these accounts access to my bank.

Yep fuck that autopay, and to entice you companies say you'll save on your bill if you'd agree to it . Nope

I'm in the same boat. I never do that. Only did it for EZ-Pass in NYC and here I do it for the EZ-Tag or whatever it's called for the tolls.

But that Griddy, there is no other way to pay but put your bank info I believe or debit card. They make it sound like "oh we don't ever touch your money, only when it goes below X".

But let that crisis hit and there's nothing you can do but watch the app as it says in the next hour your rate will be $4kwh or $7kwh.

I stayed on Griddy for two weeks and ran to Energy Ogre. You pay them $10 a month to just find and switch providers each time contracts are up. Paying $120 a year I'm still paying less than I was switching contracts on my own. Been with them almost two years now.
