They extended our teleworking from July 6th until July 30th. It seems every time we get close to the date they push it back and I'm not mad at that

I don't want to sit behind or in front of or next to some Anti masker

Fuck people. I work now with a cac missing all his front teeth, chews tobacco and jabbers non-stop like a white bubba from Forest Gump. 12 hours of every idiotic idea he has in his head from what kinds of foods his kids refuse to eat, to everyone he's ever met.

12 hours of the shit. I'm trying to connect hydraulic and electrical leads with a robot 1/2 a mile away and he's talking about throwback Football helmets, and where can he get work boots and Red Robin burgers.
Don’t y’all get bored working at home all the time? I don’t have conventional work but I enjoy being around people
People are annoying and stupid, especially when you are in close proximity for 42 days straight. I go to my room, but on some it's real 85 youtube videos just to erase the last 12 hours.

That chick in the article said it perfectly, it really is a Boomer Power Play... and has nothing to do with productivity.

Some of these old fonky, lifers literally wouldn't have a job to do, or "skill", if there weren't co-workers to keep an eye on and delegate shit to. Plus, work is the only human interaction a lot of folks get.

Fuck them tho.
This here. A number of my coworkers use work as an escape from their spouses. It’s either work our spouse and that’s it for em.

The WFH model is going to catch on. Workers want it and if production is the same, businesses are saving a lot of money. Commercial Lease, Human Resources exposure, Utilities,Security, Taxes, Insurance, Maintenance and Repairs. I wonder what the impact will be to Commercial and Residential Real Estate. What will be the impact to Large Urban Cities with the reduction in tax income?

If you use work to escape the spouse you need to take a hard look at the relationship you are in or they just missing that office girlfriend/side piece. Notice the metoo levels have been down since people been working from home. :puzzled:

Oh for sure. There are mad people with unhappy homes just sleep walking through that part of life. Folks can't WAIT to get away from their SO's... and WFH has probably been elevating that angst exponentially..

....or they just missing that office girlfriend/side piece.

..that too

Yeah it’s sad. My job provides a pension for retirement. I have coworkers that have maxed out their years worked in their pension and actually working for less money than they would get retired. All because they don’t want to be home. A lot of people use work as an escape.

The war over work from home: Employers want everyone back to the office. Employees want flexibility.
As offices begin to reopen, it turns out there's a big gap between what workers want and what their employers want. In a recent survey, 6% of people who are currently working at least one day a week at home said they quit on the spot if their employer called everyone back into the office full-time, and 36% said they would return, but look for a new job.

Saw an article where 1 parent sent thier kid to school after a positive COVID test and that kid may have infected 80 others. Imagine when I person in an office tower comes to work with COVID.

Most people aren't gonna wear thier mask properly the whole time at work. People gotta sneeze, eat/drink, blow nose, etc. It will travel through AC units and go through the whole building.

Personally working from home since March of 2020, has opened my eyes to how going into the office everyday has been a gruesome task if you have a position that can be done from home.

Wear and tear on your car, crowded roads, or public transportation hassles. Who wants to return to the typical rat race of a white collar 9 to 5?

I saved so much money which allowed me to invest a tidy sum into various index funds monthly.

I also think working from home allowed folks to get creative in coming up with side hustles that bring in extra cash.

My Hospital had us on pace to return back in office 2/3 days a week starting October 1. Well we got hit with a ransomware attack and all of our 150 systems have been down. They’re reconsidering some shit now, and see the benefit in us working from home 100%. I’ve lost 20 lbs eating healthier and overall a better person not stressing going in.

The Hybrid model we are doing has been made permanent since last year. The money saved was invested back into the company to raise wages, keep everything up to date (Tech field forever changing), training and expansion.

Forward thinking company right there...yall hiring?

For me it's depression. Being single, not having anyone sucks.

I miss having people around, and it seems every interesting female has 2+ kids and I don't deal with women who have kids

I don't want to go into the office, but I do miss interacting with people

This is probably the only thing I miss is the interaction with the people

I called this some time ago. Working from home for black folks is heaven when you're in corporate.

Just being able to do your job without CAC's hoovering is a beautiful thing.

Why many Black employees don't want to return to the office

Khristopher J. Brooks 15 hrs ago

Tennessee mom Ashley Brooks enjoys working in tech support at a Nashville firm, in large part because the job has been remote since the coronavirus pandemic erupted. But with her employer likely to summon employees back to the office in 2022, she is nervous: Like many Black Americans, Brooks finds the thought of returning to work discomfiting.

Indeed, while polls suggest some employees are content to be back at their desks, Black workers told CBS MoneyWatch that being in a predominantly White workplaces often exacts an emotional toll. Working from home offers a measure of inner peace and even helps them do their jobs better, they said.

"It definitely feels more comfortable at home," said Brooks, who was commuting to work before COVID-19 struck last year. "I don't have to worry so much about my hair and the way I dress — you don't have to answer dumb questions about your hair."

Such sentiments are common among people of color, including in corporate America. For decades, Black and Hispanic employees have reported feeling marginalized at work and being relegated to lower-paying roles even when their credentials qualify them for a higher-level position.

Black women, in particular, say a typical workday often requires looking past microaggressions from co-workers, ignoring flippant comments about their natural hairstyles or suppressing emotions lest they be labeled an "angry black woman."

An October survey of more than 10,000 workers from Future Forum, a research group focused on workplace issues, found that 66% of Black respondents want a flexible schedule, compared to 59% of White employees. The survey concluded that Black workers are happier in their jobs, and have a more favorable view of their employer, when working remotely.

"A big part of the experience of race at work is your sense of comfort or belonging," Brian Lowery, a Stanford University social psychologist, said in the published survey. "If you work in an environment where you're in the minority, the office might be less comfortable. But if you can work at home and not feel a sense of being constantly on the outside — if you remove that 'everyday tension' — that can improve your experience."

Survey finds many employees expect work-from-home options after pandemic

A Buzzfeed News survey earlier this year also found that Black workers were anxious about returning to the office after spending the past year and a half away from the subtle racism that often pervades office life.

No surprise, then, that Brooks describes working from home as a relief
. Most employers and managers "don't understand microaggressions and they don't understand what it's like to have to constantly combat that," she said. "That's a chore and a job in and of itself, and it's really exhausting to have to correct people and consider how the [work] environment is taking a toll on you."

Kristen Fuller, an IT help-desk representative who works in Conroe, Texas, roughly 40 miles north of Houston, also said she prefers working from home. That allows her to avoid group settings where she felt her voice wouldn't be taken seriously by supervisors, said Fuller, who is African-American. She also thinks working remotely played a role in winning a promotion earlier this year because it encouraged her managers to focus solely on her performance.

"Now I don't have to deal with brown-nosing people at the office," added Fuller, a mother of four. "They see that I do my job, and I do it well."

"I don't have to be fake"
Tina Thomas, a computer network engineer who works from home in Rockland County, New York, said remote work insulates her from being micromanaged. Perhaps more important, it also avoids having to engage in what social scientists have termed racial "code-switching" — when people of color shift their speech, appearance, behavior and other characteristics at work to make non-Black colleagues feel more comfortable.

Harvard University researchers have found that Black employees often view code-switching as necessary for career advancement, but that the effort is psychologically draining.

By contrast, "I don't have to be fake all day long and I can just be myself," said Thomas, who is also African-American, about working from home. "I don't have to dress up a certain way, and I don't have to deal with someone not liking me."

I'm in a virtual meeting right now about "Best Practices for Hybrid Work" ... Oh boy. These ppl are really something else.

One part spinning the coming back to the office will be great for xyz narrative... One part let's be cognizant of being 'present' during this new way of doing things when you're not in the office warning.

You really have these polar opposite views where ppl either want to be all the want back in the office because work is all they have vs those that are tired of it and want the complete shift, mentally-socially etc. to virtual..

One of the things that has come outof this pandemic is the fact people realize they can do other things. They don't have to be tied down to one specific job title........no matter how long you've been there. Seems like being restricted from doing so many things your use too and love has had a 'I'm not gonna tolerate the bullshit any longer" mentality in a lot of people. Being an essential worker in corrections has been absolute hell. Having to literally run the facility with so many out due to Covid and administrators sitting at home watching Judge Judy while I do their jobs is complete bullshit!!! Been in this game for 25 years and enough is enough. Got 10 more years to go for a full pension so that's why I decided to start learning to play the guitar and bass. Want to eventually learn the piano and saxaphone as well. My goal is to become a peofessional muscian and leave my job in 5 years. That's my exit plan to eventually do what I WANT TO DO. A lot of people are walking towards what they want to do now. That's a good thing.

For sure, everything you said is right on point. Personally, having been able to slow things down a bit during this entire time working remote has been a godsend. Catching up on some reading, passion projects, saving and investing has allowed me to recalculate my trajectory the same way you talked about: putting a plan together to eventually do more of what I WANT to do. Build a better life in the image that I imagine...

Props for having a solid, well-defined plan that is within your reach. Keep hustlin my dude.
