But I've seen two good coworkers on the bad end of a harassment claim.

The first was just a cultural screw up. A French man and a Japanese woman. You know how the French kiss on both cheeks to greet someone? Something as simple as that led to human resources being involved. Nothing happened to the guy except a bunch of trainings on harassment and such. But it was still embarrassing for him. The funny thing was 100% of our coworkers were supporting HIM calling the whole thing BS. But they couldn't say or do anything because technically she had a right to file a complaint.

The second one was just a hot mess. Young hot latin chick started working at the job. She was pretty much a dits and had sub-par performance. Normal flirting with the guys and many petty complaints with the girls. Everything was manageable until she went on the first company conference trip. Of course after conference hours everybody drinks. She eventually hooks up with with one of the senior staff who, by the way, is very much married with children. Now this guy is cool and a hard worker and a good guy but to be brutally honest he was not a catch and she was way out of his league. Regardless this took place in a room that was shared with another couple of coworkers who was hooking up also. When they returned I guess reality set in and she had an "oh shit" moment. She tried avoiding him at all cost. But the guy was smitten by her (remember she was young and hot). He kept making attempts to talk, email, text, and call her thinking what happened on the trip was something more than a drunken mistake. He even promised to leave his wife for her. Yes he was very much thirsty and I agree he should have fell back. Well she finally went to HR and claimed he was harassing and stalking her.
Now here is where SHE fucked up. In her report she was adamant that absolutely nothing ever happened between them. Not only were there 2 witnesses in the same room when they were having sex but she mentioned having sex with him in a few of the email and text message exchanges. The only reason she didn't get fired was because dude was kinda harassing her afterwards. He got a mild suspension and was able to keep his job. They both got reprimanded for inappropriate and unprofessional behavior while on a company sponsored trip. And it was revealed she had fucked two other workers (another one was married also) from other departments since she had started there. She quit a few weeks after the investigation ended.
