Women, why do you wear a weave?

Maybe this has been asked, I dunno, but why do you wear weaves? IMO, I'd prefer a girl who does her best with whatever hair type/length she has, because to wear a weave just seems very, very insecure, and, from my experience, a weave is almost always coupled with a ghetto attitude.

I won't say always though, because I knew a girl who was from Texas of all places, acted like the annoying cliche MTV loving white chick, and she had a weave too.

I don't like weaves at all and I've never had one, but I know plenty of people who have weaves and they're not ghetto. That's a bit too overinclusive my brotha

I don't wear weave but I know lots of girls that do and they aren't necessarily ghetto, most just weren't born with the grade of hair they like. Alot of white women wear "pieces" aloso.

Ease and variety and I am by no means ghetto. I've been called boojie and high maintenance, but never ghetto.

Boojie is just a polite way of saying ghetto. I mean, the term in of itself is ghetto.

And yes, white women wear weaves took, OLDER white women, as in, older white women whose hair is falling out.

You're buggin.

White women wear weaves all the time. They just call them extensions. Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton wouldn't be putting their name on those products if it weren't for that fact.

I'd like to know the answer as well. do you feel inadequate? do you feel like women with long hair or better than you? or have an advantage over you? If you are bald headed , be bald headed. Everyone knows it aint yours anyway. I'm 6'0" , but I dont wear platform shoes to make me 6"4'. Be what you are. You would'nt sleep with a guy that had a fake dick tied on the end of his real one, so why put fake hair on the end of real hair?

The last time I checked Bourgie did not mean ghetto...it means the EXACT opposite.

This is a matter of what that person feels makes her look better. It's no different than a guy that wears four shirts to make him "look" thicker. Or wear big baggy jeans to make him look bigger. Not to mention buy a big ass Hummer to make him appear more financially stable. We all do it weave is just a different way. Or like Femme said it could just be to provide variety. I don't really have house guest over often but I buy new furniture all the time and change my furniture around. I do it because it makes my home feel new and "spruced" up. Weave allows someone who's hair doesn't allow for many styles on it's own to try new styles. Like I said I don't wear weave but, if my hair wasn't as picky as it is I would probably wear it. And Ghetto has absolutely nothing to do with it:hmm:.

But you knew this thread was silly you didn't really want an answer.

Or did you really want a woman to break down and come in here and say " I don't love myself so I wear weave"?

:hmm:

You're so right...white women invented the weave.

Your analogies don't exactly relate to this topic. In MANY cultures, long hair is equated to beauty, health, and most predominantly, femininity. Many men like women with long hair as well, so extentions or weaves can provide that look.

ok...here we go

why people wear weaves
-can take the damage of color, heat and the elements
-gives ppl a different look
-adds length
-adds thickness
-convenience
-going for a certain look for an occassion
-b/c they had a hair tragedy and are tryna cover it up

NOT ALL WEAVES ARE FOR LENGTH....ppl wear short weaves, curly weaves, afro weaves

and to say a weave is usually coupled w/ a ghetto attitude is a stereotpye...so what about the weaves you can't tell are weaves? what about their attitudes? EXACTLY

granted...i hate weaves that OBVIOUSLY look like weaves or just unnatural but i have gotten extentions and NO ONE knew

yes u have those ppl that get weaves cuz they are tryna be up in the club lookin like the chic in the videos cuz they feel that is what guys like but don't charge that to all women.

and to the man who said if u going bald just go bald...nah bruh...everyone can't rock a baldy (same goes for guys).

there are hair conditions that have women bald, hair wont grow or it breaks off a lot so some of them might choose to wear a weave

case by case basis ppl

I'm sorry for not checking the ghetto dictionary. Wasn't that term in a Nelly Video?

And stop bringing up white chicks. I'm not asking white chicks, I'm asking you, don't concern yourself with them, their actions do nothing to justify yours.

You know, the whole jump off a bridge thing.

Whether you can tell it's a weave or not isn't the issue, and it most definately has nothing to do with the attitude comment I gave. Weaves seem, for the most part, to be a "ghetto" thing. I mean, that's just what I've seen, but it seems to be coupled with a ghetto"ish" mentality.

They don't look good, ESPECIALLY when they are taken out and the hair you actually have is all fucked from lack of care. If you were suppose to have hair that flows down to your ankles, you would. It's like huge double Z tits on some 90 pound chick. Just say no.

How old are you? Are you black?

This term has been used FOREVER to describe an "upper-class, stuck-up" black person. MALE OR FEMALE! It's always used by rappers to describe girls who won't get with them cuz they act like they're "too good."

Women wear weaves because they are an accessory to change their style up. Your question is like asking "Why do women wear different earrings?" or "Why do women own more than one pair of shoes?". For variety.

19 and half black yes.

Good Lord, you're a baby. No wonder you don't know what "bougie" means. :hmm:

I think you're a bit young to be making so many generalizations about women who wear weaves and you don't know much about life yet.

On the contrary , my analogy has everything to do with the topic. I think women wear weave/extentions because they feel inadequate . Either that or they are too damn lazy to take care of their own hair.My great grand mother used to say about women that could'nt grow hair " The Lord cut it ".

I don't know about that.

This latest weave I got has got to be the most easiest ever. The stylist cut so well that I rarely have to do anything.

And I wore my hair in a short natural and in my early 20's and fussed over it so much it was ridiculous. Always trying to find the right potions to keep it moisturized. Then I just cut it to a low ceasar.

But as always, I sought change. Did all kinds of braids, wigs, weaves and I will continue to do so to change my look. Women at work and sometimes on the street, white and black, always ask me if I'm some kind of stylist.

And for those that don't know. The earliest wigs, weaved & braided styles were created in none other than Egypt. So know your history.

Funny thing is most guys could care less about hair, a woman stays on her appearance mainly because she's all about feeling good about herself. This theory does not apply to gold diggers where you keep up your appearnce due to financial gain.

"see my child this is a example of a man who doesnt know his black women"

Pretty much, that's why I'm asking. I mean, why not work with whatever hair you have? Unless you're bald or something.

what happens if she wears the weave or whatever style she has well? Not all women can pull off the caesar cut just like all women shouldn't wear weaves. Maybe the chicks you deal with rock weaves and don't look good in them.

You make a lot of assumptions. Most black women do not equate their hair with their self-esteem. Like I said before it is an accessory. And they were definitely wearing wigs back in your great grandmother's day. Keeping up a weave is just as much work as keeping up our own hair. Black hair is no joke--weave, braids, or natural.

Did you read some of the WOMEN'S responses? Did you find your answer?

Oh well excuse the hell out of me for having an opinion and questions. How dare I.

And yes, I got answers, I was curious. Not exactly about to run up to a woman and ask why she has fake hair on her head.
