I love the song. It's no discredit to Will even if he had it written for him.

I had always heard Ra wrote it, and it made sense cuz it's totally his flow.

Even still I always liked it and I don't think anyone is saying Will is a sucka for having something written for him.

I also heard Jay wrote for him on a few things. It was never a big deal, get your panties out the bunch:lol::lol:

Never checked the publishing but i thought everybody knew Rakim wrote "summertime"!!

I know for a fact that Nas wrote damn near the whole Big Willie Style album.

He got his credits for Gettin' Jiggy Wit It and Miami and Men in Black and few others off the album.

This one is so crazy though because when someone ghostwrites it always comes out. ALWAYS. The Ghostwriter always tells it because he wants to get his clientele up. I know all the shit Jay has ghostwrote for people. I know the shit TI has ghostwrote for people. Skillz, Smitty, etc. You know who the ghostwriters are its no secret. But for whatever reason niggas think Rakim ghostwrote this shit. :lol: Rakim would've been admitted to it. :lol:

But y'all are crazy if you think ghost writers get ASCAP credit... if the writer is given credit it isn't ghost writing. Its just writing.

The industry is full of ghost writers and ghost producers that get NO credit... never mind the many established artists that give away credit on the hookup or use aliases (ala Biggie, Prince, MJ, Lionel Ritchie, etc... )

I never heard about this rumor until it was started on BGOL a while ago. This should end the whole discussion on that bit of speculation now.​

Except at least the Summertime song clearly sounded like Rakim. Even Rakim said it.

So maybe Will copped the style for the record. ALso makes sense. Maybe he had someone else write him a Rakim style flow.

All we know now is Rakim said it wasn't him.

As far as the Nas story- your word is just as good as whoever said Ra wrote Summertime when it came out. We all just believed it cuz it made sense.

Always used to tell cats EST from 3x Dope wrote it or King Sun wrote it and let that simmer. Cats would start second guessing whether they thought Rakim wrote Summertime or not. Then I would ask them "who wrote Brand New Funk"? or better yet "how many tracks did you like from 'Let the Rythm hit em'?" (which came out around the same time). Wasn't hating I just remember Rakim and Eric B trying to slip a little Kane and Gangstarr into the mix and feeling the heat from cats that came out of nowhere like Ed OG and Special Ed.

I honestly think Will put that pen to work after he got that lifeline boost in his career and the money problem looked like it was going to be resolved. After Young MC and Kid & Play rolled through to grab a little money from nice guy rap I think Fresh dialed one in before becoming Will Smith.

my cuz has penned joints for artists where he got paid in cash..literally... bands straight from the bank.

i dont know how often it happens but u gotta think when an artist truly doesnt want anybody to know he didnt write some shit, he is not gonna have nobody getting writing credits on the song. plus back in the 90's u had so much drug money floating around in the hiphop and r&b game it prolly wasnt shit to break a ninja off $10k to stfu and write for a hot artist.
