It sounds like it might be gradually becoming defacto illegal to practice that particular religion in the US, based on popular talk radio and internet talkboard discussions about the controversial NYC mosque, and now questions about Obama "being a Muslim" because his father was a Muslim, and the "seed of Islam" is passed down from the father.
Anyway, it's obvious that getting a government permit for a new mosque is more difficult than getting one for a church, a synagogue, or other religious building. Legal fees to get the permit are higher and it takes more time. Americans should be more careful against such arbitrary and politically motivated or biased legal favoritisms with regard to Constitutionally protected freedoms, imo.
Slippery slope.
