Will it be illegal soon to be a practicing Muslim in the US?

It sounds like it might be gradually becoming defacto illegal to practice that particular religion in the US, based on popular talk radio and internet talkboard discussions about the controversial NYC mosque, and now questions about Obama "being a Muslim" because his father was a Muslim, and the "seed of Islam" is passed down from the father.

Anyway, it's obvious that getting a government permit for a new mosque is more difficult than getting one for a church, a synagogue, or other religious building. Legal fees to get the permit are higher and it takes more time. Americans should be more careful against such arbitrary and politically motivated or biased legal favoritisms with regard to Constitutionally protected freedoms, imo.

Slippery slope.

I hope so. We need to get rid of the spics and the sand niggas with bomb vests.

It's "practicing Islam".

And while I can't stand the closeted homo savage towel heads their right declare Jihad on anyone who looks at their bitches one second too long should be upheld.

As long as it's privately funded, I support the Mosque at ground zero. It's really only rednecks and closet rednecks hating on Islam. Freedom of religion is in the Constitution. There is no way the state or Federal government will ever make it illegal to practice Islam or any other religion whose practices don't pose a threat to public safety or violate some other law or ordinance.

I think if the Tea Party has it's way it will be illegal to be Muslim, Black, Mexican or Gay.

Its in the book of Revelations ..it talks about the govt turning on the religion then the end shall come...scary you brought that point up OP

It is ironic that while the tea baggers are are out persecuting all Arabs as if they are all Muslim, some of the oldest Christian communities exist in the Arab world (Egypt, Lebanon et al.). That said, I really hope this serves as a wake up call for Persians and Arabs in general. Just because you are a member of the "elite" in your own country, you shouldn't come to the US and live your life as if you are a white person.

I could not of said it any better.

No it won't ever be illegal. I feel they have a right to put the mosque there but it is very insensitive to want to put it there. Obama shouldn't have commented on this because I knew it would get used against him. The fringe groups left and right are both doing most of the talking and the moderates are stuck in the middle.

It's insensitive to want to put it where? Where is "there"?

Come on man. To want to put the "mosque" (its a community center) on the hallowed ground that is currently a Burlington Coat Factory is insensitive? Wasn't Palin just defending the 1st amendment right to call blacks "******s" a few days ago? Talk about selective outrage....

You are correct.

The "Founding Fathers" of the United States thought that freedom of religion was so important that it is a 1st Amendment right, the very first thing mentioned in the Constitution!

It is a prime reason why the United States was founded to begin with.

First Amendment: addresses the rights of freedom of religion (prohibiting Congress from establishing a religion and protecting the right to free exercise of religion), freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom of petition.

Don't be absurd. Freedom of religion is a founding principle of these United States. ...and de facto is two words.

The problem with the US and it's media is the amount of misinformation they propagate and the stupid ass people who make decisions based on it.

This is a country of dumb mofokrs who rely on sound bites.

Case in point.

First and foremost this isn't a national issue and why should anybody give a fuck what some cat in Kentucky thinks about what is built in NY.

They come out and say they are building a Mosque at the 9/11 site and mofokrs bust a vessel and loose their minds.

Then slowly it comes out that the site isn't the 9/11 location but 2 blocks from the northern most piece of the 47 acre plaza.

Then its the name so they change it to Plaza 51

Then it's a mosque when it reality it is a community center with a pool, fitness center, gym, educational facilities and a prayer area on the top floor.

It isn't for Muslims and in fact is for the use of anybody who wants to use it. Unlike the many Jewish community enters that are exclusive to Jews.

Now I work a One Financial Plaza in Chicago. There is a hotel on one floor of this building.Nobody calls it a hotel.

Nobody cares that it is private and that Muslims have been holding prayers there all along.

Nobody cares that the messenger of the misinformation (Fox News) talks about terror funding this facility when in fact their boss the 2nd major owner under Murdoch is a major contributor.

If the terror act was committed by Al Qauida why are they allowed to blame the whole Islamic community.

Tim McVeigh was a christian..does that mean all christians should be blamed for the Oklahoma City Bombing ?

And lastly if these people are forced to build elsewhere is it still to close? If they can't follow the constitution doesn't that mean the terrorists won ?

 1 issue at a time.. I would like to see how the local people feel about it. I live in Atlanta. How the hell can me, you or Palin dictate what should be put where when we don't even live there.

In English, it is actually 'practice'. I would encourage you to keep quiet on this issue because what you know and speak is not English..
