well,

I wanna join the family but need some convincing.

Currently I've got:

2398106_0001342591.jpg

-HP Pavilion DV6 notebook
-4GB
-32 BIT OS
-Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T9550 @2.66Ghz 2.67Ghz

I'm not into heavy graphics though i store huge amount of data and architectural drawings and pictures...so far i cant complain but i hate it that my current l7HP has to to stay charged all the time and when Im on a plane cant really watch my films or work more than 1 hr...so it sucks on that front...had this thing since September last yr

IM LOOKING FOR DURABILITY AND EFFICIENCY ohhh this HP has BLUE RAY drive!!

I'm with you fam... I want a MBP too, but my Dell gets the job done right now. Maybe within the next couple of years I'll cop one.

Your HP sounds like it's holding you down too... you just need to get a stronger battery and keep rolling with it.

Nobody should have to convince you to want something. Either get it or don't. Just my 2 cents.

On another note I bought a 13 inch mbp in January. They advertise a 7 hour battery life and so far its been pretty damn close to that. Im averaging about 5.5 hours while Im at work. I surf the net, run parallels, and listen to my music while doing homework. When Im not running parallels Im getting 6 hours of battery life.

Good luck with your decision.

you buy a macbook because you've done the research on the software and realize mac programs just....work.

you try out some internet and downloads...you try out things like AUTOMATOR

then you get vm fusion, put it in unity mode and realize it's possible to have 2 computers in 1 laptop at the same time and it makes the decision for you.

I'm considering a Mac Book Pro next month - Can someone tell me the advantages of purchasing one vs. just stating windows sucks! Windows sucks! No viruses!!

Lol is it me? Or does everyone get those, "this nigga got a mac eyes" When i pull my shit out in public?
if you're in the general public, yeah, that shit happens a lot.

at work or any office, no big deal, but on the subway, on a plane, coffee shop or in the park, people's eyes get  when they see that 17" MBP come out of the bag.

and to the OP, sounds like you don't NEED one, rather you WANT one, and is asking to board to rationalize your WANT.

just get a new Dell if that works for you.

How much better is the 17 inch vs just the 15 inch?? It seems like it's almost a thousand more....

do yall niggas read? if you can't do simple internet research don't buy a mac.

people buy mac's for their physical build quality.
they buy them for their battery life.
they buy them for their ability to connect to networks without any major effort
they buy them because they sync with any printer immediately (no drivers)
they buy them because you can't get spyware and registry errors with no registry.
the buy them because if you so choose, you can add a DELETABLE copy of windows to your system (not either or like with a PC)
they but them because of the built in programs like mail, iphoto, iweb, calander and others that work very well together (there's nothing like dumping photos into iphoto and it dividing them up by where you took them and who's in them WITHOUT YOU HAVING TO DO IT).
common tasks can be automated and if you know how to use spotlight correctly, you have a 1 stop shop for everything on your computer.

but my favorite and what i think is the best part of a macbook...is the expose' and multiple windows feature. so i can push one button i've decided on, or swipe across the the mousepad and see all my open windows at once. you can also toggle them or..even better (especially with the wife and kids around) use up to 4 desktops at once just by hitting a button, i can have my windows copy full screen, switch have bgol in another window, switch have office shit, and have itunes running in another comptely new desktop.

when you can do that with a pc, let me know...but 4 desktops and one can be your full screened vm fusion or parallels? thats called power my friends.

also, in ichat if the other person has a macbook, you can control their screen to fix problems or...to do demonstrations..shit like that already built in.

also, you can do rosetta stone without the mic/headset. just talk and it'll pick it up.

chatting in a normal voice overseas on ichat is incredible. also, you can get hard shell cases for a macbook pro cheap as shit in every color under the sun on ebay. with a pc, it's already plastic so buying a plastic case to prevent scratches is almost impossible or redundant

17" has a faster processor, better monitor resolution, an extra USB slot, comes out the gate with a 500gig HD as opposed to the 15" option for a 500gig.

the 15" has a SD card slot that the 17" doesn't.

i wouldn't touch a MBP until the upcoming refresh happens. maybe they'll drop it when the drop the new iPhone this June.

i have a Powerbook 15" and a 17" MBP. some people find the 17" too big for them. i mostly use it as a desktop, but i do take it out in the field from time to time.

on picking a 13,15,or 17"...go with mobility first. the 15" is ideal but i chose the 13" and i'll tell you why..

i carry 3 adapters with me..mini display to vga, dvi and hdmi..so if i'm somewhere stable with a larger screen, i can tap into the screen with 0 problems. at home i have a 26" lcd i use as my desktop monitor...no problem, just plug it into the hdmi slot, sleep the computer, break out my bluetooth keyboard and mouse and i have an instant desktop.

i bought mine with the minimum ram and hard drive and just upgraded them myself (simple process, much cheaper and now have 4gb of ram and a 500gb hd) if you do get one, do yourself a favor and get a network drive for time machine, you'll thank yourself later..TRUST ME

Okay that's the kind of info I'm looking for not, WINDOWS SUCKS! WINDOWS SUCKS!

I was consider the mac pro (tower) but I don't want to replace the PC tower I have in my office. Also for me my PC serves as the server for my house. I stream all of my movies to my PS3's and xbox's and I heard that Mac doesn't work very well with PS3 or xbox streaming. Can someone clarify?

Right now it's a toss up between getting a tower and getting a laptop. I'm leaning towards the 15 inch though, I'm not really trying to carry around 17 inches.

Okay good info right there.

If you want a truly BAD ASS laptop, check out the Sony VAIO Z Series coming in March. This shit is an absolute BEAST!

Announced at CES with a "late Spring" availability, we just got word that the Core i7-620M pumpin' VAIO Z series from Sony will be hitting Europe in late March. The Z's biggest claim to fame is its ultra-fast Quad SSD, a rather unique Sony innovation that writes data in parallel to four SSDs (up to 256GB total capacity in RAID 0) at speeds up to 6.2x faster than typical 5400 rpm laptop hard disks. Sony also fits the Z with a hybrid graphics solution that combines 1GB of NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with Intel HD graphics allowing you to automatically (or manually) switch between "speed" and "stamina" modes... presumably without requiring a logout if we're reading "dynamic" correctly. Rounding out the specs are 6GB of DDR3 SDRAM, 802.11n WiFi, integrated optical drive, and optional VAIO Everywair 3G mobile broadband module all stuffed into this 13.1-inch laptop with 1920 x 1080 pixel LED backlit display with 210 x 23.8-32.7 x 314mm and 1.43kg footprint. Power AND portability? Come give us a hug Sony.

And it just works. No problems and errors. I fix machines all the time and my friends bring their stuff to me to fix and I laugh because I no longer have the problems they have. You can buy several machines or one Mac. Your preference.

don't touch the tower. long overdue for a refresh. wait til summer to make your decision when hopefully new shit will drop.

macs network together extremely well. you have to option to mount a networked computer to your Finder or you can actually share the screen and take control of it. works seamlessly and effortlessly. shit, thru iChat i can connect and take control of someone else's computer as well.

i have my mac mini connected to my PS3 and XBox. for the XBox, use Connect360 and for the PS3 use MediaLink. both work fine and if you google, you can find serial numbers for them.

So they never mess up at all? I was at the mac store in the mall the other day researching and I saw tons of fru fru white folks in their bringing in their macs with all sorts of problems. Please clarify.

all computer have hardware and software issues. mac is no different.

most of the people who go to the genius bar just don't know how to do something. HELP is a rarely used part of the Mac OS. they have step by step instructions on how to resolve a lot of the basic issues that people come across.

as the friendly neighborhood Mac IT guy most of the time I 'fixing' the most simple things that they just don't know how to do themselves.

Macs ain't shit. What corporations use them? I work on them all the time and they're a bitch to find parts for and hell to work on.

They run office now.
They run Windows now.
They will have a Intel chip soon.

They are becoming PC clones. Why if their are so fucking great?

Okay but that debunks the fact that THEY NEVER mess up. Thanks again.

I wonder what the price point will be on this?

Buy it because you want to. I brought my Macbook because I wanted something different and had an it factor to it.

Lol is it me? Or does everyone get those, "this nigga got a mac eyes" When i pull my shit out in public?

 Nah homie. I get the same look. My boys had some hate for me about it too. They asked me why would I spend that amount of money on a mac when I can get a pc for 1/5 of the price. I replied that why would I buy a PC when that bitch is gonna get viruses and be obsolete within 2 years of its purchase.

Which brought me to my next point. Why are you niggas worried about my pockets? I don't cop anything that I can't afford. Besides I see a Mac as a wise investment.

a lot of corporations use them. you think that they are just used for personal use? :hmm:

parts? what parts do you need to buy? ram? upgraded HD? 3rd party accessories? go to the apple store if you need to find a part. they're everywhere.

they've been running office for 2 decades now.
they've been had the ability to run Windows. the choice to do so is yours, but you at least have the option.
they've been had the Intel chip, that's how they are able to run Windows.

don't let Divine see this post. you aren't up on your knowledge. :smh:

If you can afford it then go for the macboook pro got a macbook last year would go back to PC again. Id by a 17" pro if I had the cash though next time.

Yea but 2500 dollars for something that can get stolen or broken (by being dropped)....

I own 2 laptops and I always spend as little as I can and simply upgrade them myself due to the fact that anything can happen. When I vacation I always take my laptop with me and carrying around something that expensive gives me the chills.

A cheap laptop I can replace without feeling any guilt about it, but 2500 dollar laptop might make me kill someone.:angry:

i got the solution for that too...

check out a product called under cover http://www.orbicule.com/undercover/

this shit is a MONSTER and at its current price...unbeatable.

also, buy your laptop at best buy and get the black tie protection..that way if you break it, they'll fix or replace it. you don't HAVE to buy it at the apple store...
