Why Do Black People Love Tyler Perry?

Wow in a metaphoric way you prove my point, right here in this thread you have exploited what I stated in my reply and turned it completely into another story....

......

POINT MADE I CO-SIGN MYSELF even tho' I probably went over most folks head...:D

Huh???

Also, somebody earlier started dogging F.Gary Gray and other black filmmakers. I don't get this. F. Gary Gray is making movies because he wants the paycheck. There are HUNDREDS of white filmmakers who do this. Every filmmaker isn't a "name" or has "something profound to say".

Well thats all fine and whatnot but a bad movie is a bad movie.

If he made Be Cool because he wanted a paycheck, thats fine and I hope he got paid.

But its still a bad movie...

Exhibit A on the bitches that T.Perry profits and exploits...

:lol::lol: you wish... I bet you've paid to see more Tyler Perry movies than I have... :hmm:

Now I didn't like Where My Caddy? But come on, that was a comedy, totally different standards. Tyler Perry makes what are supposed to be real life and true to form movies. It is improper for him to use characatures (spelling) in his movies when they are suppose to portray real black people. Especially with him being a black man

Tyler Perry's movies are comedies also, so why are they held at different standards... and ACTUALLY Where's my Caddy was made in a black studio (owned by Tracy Edmonds) but written by white people... Shouldn't you be more offended to realize thats the type of shit that white people feel we represent??? Loud out of place negros trying to fit in with the crackas????

All movies are meant to be a slither of reality to someone, unless its otherwise marked as a fantasy movie...Tyler Perry plays are an exaggeration.. he tries to overstate a point to be moralistic... At least when I'm watching it I know that... sorry if others can't make that distinction

Why do male black comedians have to put on a dress before he really gets paid?

When did Chris Rock put out a movie where he was in drag?? The only time I can think of him putting on a dress was in an episode of Fresh Prince... and you can't deny Chris Rock is paid!!

If so, then they're mostly good and realistic stereotypes, though I'm not sure what you're talking about. You need heroes, villains and certain contrived situations in order to tell a moralistic story.

As stated earlier, Perry isn't the most talented (or complex) writer and certainly isn't yet a skilled director, but he's definitely sincere in telling the type of black (soap opera-style) stories that WHITES get to see ALL the time on the big and small screen. There's room for him at the table alongside the violence and sex junkies who represent the more "hip" spectrum of black filmmakers.

Besides all that, he always uses a virtually ALL-BLACK (and extremely talented) cast, which other black filmmakers rarely do these days.

Who else is giving Kimberly Elise (a MONSTER talent) and Angela Bassett, among other fine black actresses and actors, lead roles in major releases these days? Dude is a Godsend to the black acting community.

Co-sign...

Why are people over analyzing his success? Did you over analyze Spike Lee when he was first emerging... Do you over analyze the success of Steven Speilberg? Tim Burton? Tarantino? So what if Perry puts our stereotypes, isn't that what the Wayans used as their stepping stone of success???

Also, somebody earlier started dogging F.Gary Gray and other black filmmakers. I don't get this. F. Gary Gray is making movies because he wants the paycheck. There are HUNDREDS of white filmmakers who do this.

F. Gary Gray is a solid, reliable filmmaker. Gets the job done. Difference here is that Gray, and some of the others mentioned, are about the filmmaking "product" first and foremost, while Perry is about BLACK PEOPLE first, and crafty filmmaking 2nd ... or 3rd.

Two different worlds of filmmaking, which is why this discussion isn't going anywhere.

If you wanna talk about "exploitive" black filmmakers talk about the experienced, slick, black professionals who turn out crappy Martin Lawrence, Eddie Griffin or dumbed-down action movies just for the buck, not Perry, whose films (love 'em or hate 'em) are a personal labor of love.

A few thing's I've noticed about the Tyler Perry movies are, light skinned men alway's play the good guy role. All the bad guy's seem to be dark complected. Also fat women never are the headlining character's but when there is a serious issue the main character always turn's to a fat woman for guidance. I believe I have come up with good reason as to why he does this. I'd like to know what you think also.

Im not interested in him or his movies in the least. However in your opinion do you think that people should dislike this man? If so I really don't see why.

Black people dont love Tyler Perry ,black women do. Black men just go along with it , to get the pussy. The same reason they go along with church.

True fuckin story! Unless I am going to church to hear Reverend Jeremiah Wright preach as the guest pastor.....then I am going to hear his dynamic message.:yes:

The only problem I have with Tyler Perry is that his plays and films are becoming redundant, with the exception of Why Did I Get Married and Daddy's Little Girls. I would like to see him do less comedies. But I can't hate on him at all. He pulled himself up from the bottom without producing any negativity and he is giving recycling black dollars.

Truth.

I disagree with this, too. I supported Daddy's Little Girls and Why Did I Get Married. I saw them theatrically and purchased the DVDs, and i'm a single black male. I've found those two movies both entertaining and comforting, and have seen them several times.

As for church...well, I guess some brothers go to church on the pussy hunt. Many men don't have to be dragged kicking and screaming to church.

You must not be familiar with Tyler's work. Or you're just talking about the Hollywood movies he has been doing lately(which I haven't seen).

"I can do bad all by myself" Has the dark skin guy as the misjudged good guy that has to prove him self to the star, which is a broken hearted big girl. The villian are a two back stabbing side winding light skin slim people.( but they can sing

He has a couple of movies called the Browns and if Mr. Brown and Black then they sky ain't blue. I don't know a lot of his work, but the one or two I have seen is not the above case. I don't know if you can get blacker than Mr.Brown. They should have just called him Mr.Black. He ain't Brown.

Yes, I bought this month's issue of Men Health with Tyler Perry on the cover, not because I want a flat stomach but because Tyler shares some tips on how he obtained 500 million dollars of pownage in the film industry.

I go to church for God, I go to clubs for pussy. If there was some personal gain to go to church for, it wouldn't be pussy, it would be to get a 500 million dollar blessing like Perry. haha. Generally I go out of thankfulness for what God has already done for me. I "try" to give God serious mindshare while I'm there, and not look at the ass, since I spend plenty of time looking at it jiggle here.

I don't go to church for pussy, there's better hoes in a club. A

I'm black and don't like Tyler Perry and I know a few black people who don't like him also. It's like saying all black people like BET, just because BLACK is in the station name doesn't mean I must submit to liking their programming. Tyler Perry audience is older black people and females, not young black educated men. I'm not a fan of his, he hasn't done anything so special that hasn't been done or told before through plays and movies. I did see Why Did I Get Married and thought it was good but wasn't anything impressive which hasn't been done. If he makes quality movies, I'll support him but he is not the next best thing, he just another film maker. I watch lots of independent films to see different undiscovered film making talent, believe me Tyler ain't nothing special but he is not bad neither.

Can you define older. I have been to two of his plays and while I haven't seen teenagers in the audience I was in my early 20's and saw quite a few others.

In just three years, Tyler Perry has gone from virtual unknown to Hollywood power player, bringing in over $200 million at the box office. With his latest movie - Meet the Browns - hitting theaters, revist all the much loved and highly successful movies Tyler Perry has brought to the screen.:eek:

Tyler Perry is getting money no doubt, but the thing is an every movie he as one common theme he pits black men agains black women and I disagree with that.

It doesn't matter what anyone tries to do, people will find something to criticize. It's pathetic.

I don't like him but he does give black actors jobs so what can you say

Remeber I dont know if you guys saw it but during the writers strike Tracey Morgan was on David Letterman saying he hope they come off strike b/c you dont wanna start doing black plays:lol: He meant that if your ass is doing black plays thats b/c nobody in hollywood thinks your worth shit thats why Leon and the dude who plays Pinky in the Friday movies are always in them shits. Washed up black singers and actors do them shits its the 2008 chitterlin circuit.:dance::lol:

We're talking about his MOVIES (which feature first-rate black talent), and not his plays (which are small productions and aren't playing on Broadway!!). Do you need help with reading comprehension?

Black people dont like Tyler.....black women do

He speaks to their fantasies

She can be a damn baby momma, cheat on her man, give him an STD, and still expect to be loved and forgiven, while the man is villainized, the dark brother is always the one beating on a bitch, and some light skinned pretty boy sweeps her off her feet

These women who are dumb enough to believe that will happen to them support that man, and he will continue to make those type of movies for dumb fools like them

Tyler Perry ain't going to save yo sorry trife ass. Go ahead and believe the bullshit that Perry spoon feeds you.

Why are YOU the only person in the thread who's reverted to name calling... says more about how trife YOU are versus me... :smh: Did I ever say that I agreed with the stuff Tyler Perry puts out? NO.. I said I can't hate on him and he's doing good stuff... read brother... READ!!!!

That's funny, because the MEN are often the heroes in his films and the women are the villains.

You're getting so carried away with your black-women-hating that you're making things up.

Playa you have to listen to the show to speak from a informed position. I say that Daddy's Little Girls is the exception.
