Why buy a Mac? In 1 image

Mac Pro, quad core, 12GB RAM

iTunes is running.. I can also have Chrome OS in a VM, I can also have photoshop, Aperture and anything else I want running.. and share files between them. No lag whatsoever.

It just works.

with the same specs you can do the same thing with windblows...

so i don't see the big point :dunno:

but im curious, why would someone want or need to run another OS if they have a Mac?

There is a lot of trading software that isnt written for macs yet. So you would have to do this to get the software running on this machine.

Apple Hardware is actually ranked mega high in regards to running MSFT products

You can't run "Hackintosh" to its fullest on without running in to issues. On the flip side, you can Macs are top 3 in terms of running Windblows the fastest.

To add, 99% of kats here on this board don't use their machines for serious production.

For example, and I'm using a real world situation here:
If I were running a portrait studio and decided to tether a Hasselblad to a machine, I'm for damn sure not gonna tether it to a home made PC, that's absolutely out of the question.

Gents this is true.

I guess I have no emotional attachment to either one of the companies. They dont pay me....so with that being said. Apple hardware is ranked high for running windows. I know MSFT employees that have IMACs and run Windows 7 purely off of hardware specs.

I own a macbook - Its ok to me...Own a PC - thats what I am used to. But there is no denying that the hardware is better on a apple.

I have a blackberry (usually BB vs. Iphone debate) and like it because I dont like touchscreens. But I think iphones are cool as shit.

Decided to take my Mac for another spin today... 7 OS's running simultaneously.

Mac OS X (base OS)
Fedora 12
Windows 7
Chromium (Google Chrome OS)
Windows Server 2008
Windows Vista
Ubuntu

:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

Note: My memory usage is only about 75%, but CPU (4 cores) is only abut 30%

:hmm:
cmon man

he meant if the linux or win7 guest operating systems were 64bit versions
all current mac products are 64bit capable they all have dual core or quad core processors capable of running 64bit osx snow leopard or windows 64bit or linux amd64
that's cool, i wasn't sayin they weren't. they should make that shit easier to find on the site tho. i still don't see where it sez that about laptops but i'll take ur word for it.

doesn't matter anyway, i'm not tryna say macs suck, just that any computer with same parts will do the same shit, but more than likely cheaper than jobs joints. the extra bread isn't for performance.

just check the specs on the laptops - the processors - then read up on the processors

the extra bread to me is for build quality and software
i feel better buying a depreciating asset that doesnt depreciate at the same rate as other supposedly equivalent devices-its worth it to me
I have no buyers remorse whatsoever.
I have win7 x64 and snow leopard on the laptop and I just find myself never using windows.

That's impressive.

Do this, run a video in Win 7, youtube in Ubuntu and BGOL in the Chrome browser inside Fedora, right click the apple and click about this Mac and snap an image and post it.

That would be some cool shit to see.

respect. extra bread affecting build quality can not be denied. they are across the board exceptionally well built machines. though i'm not sure how we're quantifying depreciation (resale?), i get what you mean as well.

i guess a good analogy for my point would be that there could be two cars that exist that have the same thing under the hood, etc. causing them to run the exact same way but if one is prettier and has a nicer interior and tighter quality control/less models/affiliates and a marketing campaign that supports/drives a portion of public opinion that it is better because of these things, therefore justifying a price hike...would that mean that one runs better than the other?

i can accept the thesis that macs are well built (though most of the parts seem to come from the same companies most pc makers use) and offer a good user experience, i'm happy to agree, hell. but i'm just sayin that the fact that if even one pc can rival or smoke a mac in terms of performance for less money, this whole back and forth is pointless. it comes back down to opinion about the os users personal experience.

I think you forgot to add that one of them has a better control system (operating system) running the parts.

Wow my macbook is struggling to run XP in VM.

But Props to all the mac heads on the board who advised to buy one.

Once u taste the mac you never go back !

i think you forgot i wasnt talkin to yo ass.

and still that brings me back to my original point, which is that you're comparing OS'S, dumbass. you can put the same os that you're sucking off on a pc. damn. you can't be that slow, man...

a better analogy would be a nascar stock car vs the street model of the same vehicle

on depreciation -yeah go check out year old dell systems and compare what they go for on ebay vs what they had cost new and do the same for macs - the retain their value better

it comes down to more than opinion
there's customer service, one vendor for OS and hardware support, operating system strengths and weaknesses - there are quantifiable characteristics that can be evaluated beyond the level of opinion
but when all is said and done people get what they like, want or can

me, I have a tight unix os with a eyecandy GUI and eyecandy hardware with decent support and a ton of working software. As a person who prefers *nix having a mac is a dream. Any person who installed gnome in solaris or who ran bleeding edge linux releases knows what I mean.

i have snow leopard on my pc workstation but its not the same. Probably the same level of bullshit involved with bootlegging a recent windows version.

yea.. the OS is a major part of it.... c'mon you should know that. That's what this thread shows. Mac OS I can run all these platforms. why you so man SON?

If you can post some screen shots that would be great...

What I want to know is do you have a program that tunes out the 15% of the irrelevant muhfuhkahs on BGOL? We are capable of having some great convo up in here, but then you get thgese kids that should be doing their homework and other dudes that are too poor to even think about buying anything that spoil it with dumb shit and get us off subject...

aint you like 70? everybody is a kid on here to you pops.:D

1 question.

I have a PC notebook.

1 terabyte of storage 2 X 500
4 gigs of ram
blueray
HDMI out
17" screen

Can I get this from Apple under 2K?

I just want to get an apple to dual boot XP for my PLC controllers for a job I'm trying to get and I wouldn't mind having OSX on my laptop too.

I use pretty much everything, but to me, the apple is slightly overpriced for what I want. I can dual boot my vista laptop but I have it dialed in just the way I want so I'd rather not fuck with it. I had a cat show me his Macbook pro on a plane running OSX, Win 7 and Ubunto at the same time, so that's the way I want to go.

Running Mac OS X 10.6 as the base OS.
Left window is a VM running Fedora 12 (Linux)
Right window is a VM running Windows 7

simultaneously.... each with their own IP and networked.

Can you give some specs on this machine? Including costs?

If you've done so already, I apologize, I just don't want to go through 4 pages of bickering.

Actually, I see you had 7 OS's running in another image, and while that's , it's not necessary for me, just the two simultaneously would be enough for me. My next comp purchase will be a Mac. Haven't decided on desktop or laptop, but I'm trying to see how much it'll set me back.

Also, what about viruses? If the windows 7 catches something does it threaten the whole machine? Do you just scrap that windows OS and start over with no problems?

:yes:This was the first thing i did when i bought my MacBookPro back in Decemeber. Simple to setup with Bootcamp and VMware Fusion. Here or my specs...

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP55.00AC.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.47f2

^ Price?

And any experience with viruses on windows?

Those specs with a 13" screen ran me about $1400. Didn't need a bigger screen since i just plug it into the big screen using the MBP's display port.

Apple actually advertises its compatibility with Windows so i can just boot up in windows without the MacOS running. Apple even supplies all the windows drivers. But that doesn't mean you are safe from viruses because windows is only running on mac hardware with a separate partition. You run Windows like you would on any other PC so i have Avast Anti-virus running with it. I would assume MacOS is immune from the windows viruses since windows is on a separate partition. VMware fusion just allows you to run from multiple partitions at the same time when you boot up in MacOS first...

As Divine said, no. If you wanted to get a desktop though with the same specs minus the Blu-Ray and with a Displayport Out instead of HDMI you could get an iMac for $500.00USD less.
