Because women have the illusion of "control" in the sugar daddy relationship.

In my mind, I see them as:
#1. Sugar Daddy/Sugar Momma relationships.
They are defined by wealth and status. The younger person is with the older person primarily because they're either kept, their lives are being financed or they're being well paid. (Hollyweird/billionaires/sport figures)
#2. Middle Age Player/Cougar relationships.
They tend to be more frowned upon because society views them as predatory or as "cradle robbing" for the older person and "gold digging" for the younger. (Retired athletes/models, older celebrities, online influencers)
#3. Lastly, there are the May/December relationships.
They are real, however, they simply make people feel uncomfortable because the age gap is just too great and people can't see pass it or fail to see what the parties involved have in common. (The rest of society...)

I think power dynamics more so come into play today.
If it's an older man, it's viewed as you taking advantage of a naive woman. Normally, the opposite is never viewed this way because men are viewed as dominant over women. No, all relationships are not transactional. For me, transactional means things are only happening because money is involved. A hoe is not going to fuck you unless you pay her. The silly shit that people say about things that occur as a part of dating is retarded. The girl who goes out to dinner with you is not there because you are paying for dinner. She is there because she is interested in you. Tradition says men pay. If you are lucky, you find a non traditional woman and she doesn't mind paying too. When you are officially a couple, either of you may pay the bill.
Can't speak to the experience you proposed. My girl pays bills. The only thing she doesn't pay is the mortgage. That is because this is my house. She also owns a house she pays for. When we decide to get a house together, we will both share the mortgage expense.
