Whovians!!!

Not for nothing , and not like I care one way or the other, but he's technically dressed here. And what he's wearing seems more like a kilt than a skirt (although the difference is super specific and regional, so I can't confirm that, nor do I actually care one way or the other).

Honestly, if all it took to turn you off to the character was the 3 seconds they showed him in this getup in the trailer, you were never a true fan, and you weren't going to be. The Doctor has done far more questionable things than this in his life. Heck, 11 canonically ran around naked at one point. I can't be bothered by this.

You're better than me, I tapped out about 3 episodes into Peter Capaldi's tenure. I wasn't a fan of his spin on the Doctor, he seemed too stoic, although I've heard that he loosened up later on. I'm not sure that I'll ever catch back up.
No need to catch up, as someone who's seen every episode you miss absolutely nothing by skipping the jodi Whitaker/Chris chibnal era(although I must say capaldi did come into his own at the end of his run and bill was a good companion)

Start with the three new specials and the new series is supposed to be very much a fresh start and the trailer looks great imo

Yeah I think I tapped out during his run top and I'm actually a big fan of his since in the thick of it. I can't explain as well aa you why it didn't resonate with me. But with Tenent back? Oh I gotta see this.

Capaldi's last season(s) with Clara were hard to manage, just because of how badly they mismanaged using Capaldi (making that entire run almost an apology tour for using an "old man" like Capaldi was frustrating; when they finally let that go, they had some good material in there).

I would recommend the end of Capaldi's last season with Clara (because that part was some solid episodes), and then the entirety of the next season with Bill (who is still one of my favorite modern companions).

As much as I think Whittaker could have carried the show, the content just wouldn't let her. Chibnall went in a decidedly different direction than other showrunners, and it showed, sometimes painfully. You could arguably skip her entire run, although Flux is somewhat still relevant to the character (and gives me my favorite Master moment of her entire run).

The one good episode in his run was when he found out who Missy really was

Can we talk, for a brief moment, about how 15's official theme is tight as hell.

I wasn't sure I would like how up tempo it was, but when it kicked in briefly during the special, I was ready. It feels like this Doctor is ready to go off an have some fun, which is something the show has definitely been missing lately.

Gotta be honest, I'm not really feeling it. Too much of a departure for me. The up beat makes this feel like camp Super Hero, and round the middle kinda like a slap stick spy show. Idk if thats what they were going for or not. But If I heard this coming on while the tv was playing in the background while doing house chores, i wouldnt immediately think this was Doctor Who coming on.

I can understand that. Personally, I like that it's a departure of sorts. I think it still fits the bill to a point, but I like that it feels fresh and new, which I think is something the show can build on.

Kind of sounds more like it could be used in this

Well, we'll see. Most of the energy in the series comes from the interaction between The Doctor and his companion(s). One reason Jodi didn't track well is that she had too damn many. And they could have had her and Yaz's attraction bubbling from the second or third episode and it would have made the run a hundred times better. Tension is good. Sexual tension is even better.

In short, Chibnal had a huge swing and miss in his vision of the show.

And I thought the guy played kinda gay in "The Giggle" but I suppose we'll see how that turns out. We'll see his companion (god I hope there's only one) on xmas and if there's no chemistry between the actors then it'll be a bust.

I didn't mind Whittaker's multiple companions, but they did struggle to find things for them to do. They probably should have rotated or balanced them a little better. And I personally found Yaz so annoying that I couldn't have cared if they had put any kind of extra english on her relationship with the Doctor. I just wanted Yaz gone, or to at least have consequences for constantly going against what she was told to do.

My guess is that they will steer back towards the Doctor being less romantically inclined in general, although it is true that some chemistry does help the show along. It looks like they are ready to spend this new budget on some crazy trips and wacky alien antics, and that sounds like fun to me. I'm sure they'll hit the heavy notes when they need to, though.

Well, I don't blame Yaz's character so much because the writing for it was all over the place. She was a policeman so her actions were informed by that - when the writers remembered it. That was the issue IMO, half the time she acted like a cop and half like she'd never been out of her own backyard.

If you think about it, except for Bil and Donna Noble, all his companions had the hots for him. But what I meant was the chemistry between the actors. Not necessarily sexual chemistry.

As was also implied,so did Captain Jack..whom it looks like we wont be seeing back on DW or any of its related television media no time soon thanks to John Barrowman literally showing his ass on and off set :smh:

Yeah, but he wasn't a companion. And the last time he was on he really looked old. You could see they tried to cover it with makeup which just drew more attention to it. Supposedly he doesn't get old so...

I don't know what he did. Another #metoo?

Loved the episode, weird, funny, ncuti is going to be an excellent doctor, the dude is made 100% of charisma. The return of Murray golds music is very welcome. I'm excited for nu who again!

Them singing goblins were whack AF felt like i was watching the Muppets Christmas for a second there. Wife and daughter were entertained, i think i started playing Pokémon go during it lol
