Not at all. Prince is music. By that I am saying that he played all genre of music. Played a plethora of instruments, perhaps one of the most prolific musicians of our time. Rick James was a funk musician. Albeit a very good one, but his style nor catalogue does not compare to P's.

But if you strictly compared Prince's funk to Rick's funk, then Rick wins out in that regard.

Hold up now...The era of music that you are talking about was a young up and coming Prince, to an already established Rick James. Remember this was pre Purple Rain, pre 1999 era Prince. Also, dont think for a second P was a slouch in the funk Genre. You do know that predominantly all of Morris Day's and the Time's classic music was written, produced, arranged, composed and often performed by Prince. Not to mention dozens of other musicians that he wrote for. Rick James has some great funk songs, no doubt...but I'm kinda lookin at the overall totality of the artists in question here.

Rick James. He made Eddie Murphy sound like he could sing.

On top of that, his songs were so epic his backup singers named their band after one of them.

If you want to talk about pure musical chops "look no further than "Square biz". Not only did Rick and Stone City put out an insanely complex rhythm arrangement, they got that shit on the charts.

eddie murphy could sing.... People just did not want to accept Eddie Murphy the singer. Which was a shame in my opinion since Murphy was a decent enough singer, I guess everyone kept looking for the punch line. It would be like if Richard Pryor was a decent opera singer, no one would take him seriously even if he could sing as well as Placido Domingo.

Couldn't disagree more.

Still does one hell of a Freddie Mercury impression in this title card though.

I’ll slap a nigga open handedly style for saying Rick James
