Not even close. Prince.
They hated each other for those that didn't know.
Prince probably got a lot of his dress styles from Rick James.when you think about it,
Prince whole style screams rick james.....
they both were geniuses
but if there was No Rick James
would there be a Prince...???
but no matter what people say,
it will just be who you identify with more...
That title easily belongs to Stevie Wonder. By far. This, with respect to Prince. They both made great music... I would then have to go with Prince because his music, productions and influence is unmatchable with any musician since James Brown... however let's not take anything away from Rick James, he ruled the waves of funk during his time.

are u feeling okay, i work on the fire it up tour, prince's live show never shitted on rick live showI remember going to a Rick James concert in the 80's, where the opening act was this new guy that called himself "Prince". He stole the show. I mean, when Rick finally took the stage, his "Mary Jane" show never got off the ground. After that tour, Rick was pretty much done with live performances.
I always heard Rick was a problem for Prince on stageare u feeling okay, i work on the fire it up tour, prince's live show never shitted on rick live show
On YouTube, Rick got a live version of cold blooded that's funkier then anything he did onstageI always heard Rick was a problem for Prince on stage
That not true, I remember when Prince opened for James at the Uptown Theater in Chicago, both the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times reported that the young upstart Prince kicked the King Of Punk Funk's ass at his own show.are u feeling okay, i work on the fire it up tour, prince's live show never shitted on rick live show
how is he going to kick rick ass with bobby z on drums, and lisa on keys.... rick had a horn section and two fine ass women on back up... your trying to say the prince's band can take on the stone city band... man pleaseThat not true, I remember when Prince opened for James at the Uptown Theater in Chicago, both the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times reported that the young upstart Prince kicked the King Of Punk Funk's ass at his own show.

In terms of whose music is better between Rick James and Prince? I’d say neither. Both of them were great in their own right. In terms of ballads, I don’t think either one was consistently great in that category, but I’d give Prince the edge (”Adore”, “Call My Name”, “Nothing Compares To You”) in that category. In terms of funk, groove and stronger melodic structure, I’d give the nod to Rick. As a result of Prince’s music being more eclectic and unusual, because of his racial ambiguity and because of his appeal to a female audience, Prince was more easily able to cross the racial divide of radio. I don’t think that necessarily means that his music was better, though.
I would say both artists were winners. They both blazed their own musical paths.
Not at all. Prince is music. By that I am saying that he played all genres of music, played a plethora of instruments, perhaps one of the most prolific musicians of our time. Rick James was a funk musician. Albeit a very good one, but his style nor catalogue compares to P's.when you think about it,
