Who is the 2nd best basketball player to EVER come out of UNC ?

Re: Who is the 2nd best player to EVER come out of UNC ?

I'm only taking into account what was accomplished in COLLEGE
Not what they did afterwards
The BEST player to come out of UNC was PHIL FORD
BILLY CUNNINGHAM (The Kangaroo Kid) is up there as well
You've also got players like WORTHY and PERKINS
MJ might not even crack the top 5 players of all time from UNC

There is a man who knows basketball. Before Jordan came up no one knew how great he would become. I may not even put him in the top 25 greatest college players. He was nice but nothing like what he was with the Bulls. I can think of many other players who where more impressive in college.

Dlateshow

"Big Game" James Worthy and I'll Take Jamison and Carter for numero dos and thoswe guys were good but Jordan did gain national recognition while he was still in school...

ACC Men's Basketball Player of the Year (1984)
USBWA College Player of the Year (1984)
Naismith College Player of the Year (1984)
John R. Wooden Award (1984)
Adolph Rupp Trophy (1984)

there were many greats and more to come, but Jordan definitely deserves the props he gets for his accomplishments while wearing that carolina blue

Yes he was the first, but just due to the times if not him someone else would have been. And you can't say for sure that if he had not been the first that the rest would not have followed (considering the passage of time). So for for now lets just give him credit for being the first and not for blazing the trail........

HOLLA
Besides being the first at UNC, I omitted that he was one hell of a ball player. Scott guided UNC to it's second and third Final Fours in 1968 and 1969. He was a first team All-American each of those years and was a three time first team All-ACC selection. As were the rules during his era, freshmen were not eligible to play there first year on campus. Scott is UNC's fifth-leading career scorer. For his career at UNC Scott played in 91 games and averaged 22.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. In 1970 Scott led the ACC in scoring with a 27.1 per game average. Scott also was a gold medelist on the 1968 U.S. Olympic team in Mexico City. Played two years in the ABA and eight in the NBA. He was ABA rookie of the year in 1971 where he averaged 27 points per game. The following year Scott set the ABA record for the highest scoring average for one season (34.6 points per game). Five time ABA-NBA all-star selection. Member of the 1976 NBA champions Boston Celtics.

toss in Ed Cota and Shammond Williams too...

RiCK FOX HANDS DOWN Jordan might have got some action, but Fox is a way bigger player. He hit Vanessa Williams and Sharon Stone :)

Jordan is the 2nd best from chapel hill. Worthy went to two NCAA championship games. In the '82 final he had 28pts and 9 dunks. Jordan couldn't make the final four his last two years

I agree. I would list Phil Ford first then Big Game James. Also keep in mind Jordan didn't stay all 4 years and wasn't even the best player in the ACC his last season(Len Bias was).

In terms of what they did in the NBA, it is a toss up between McAdoo and Worthy. However, if you were to talk about what they did in college then you would have to Sam Perkins and Brad D up there. I see cats mentioning Forte, thats a joke. The ACC was diluted while he was there and we all know what he did in the pros. He also did time for an assault several years ago. That tells you how much he fell off. I always had a liking for Phelps, and Donald Williams. Williams had the most pure stroke in college ball.

Big Game James, Bob Macadoo, Sheed, VC, Keeny the Jet, Rick Fox and Sam Perkins. There have been so many ballers to come out of there, its a hard question to answer.

Can't see how Jeff McInnis got into the league and he didn't... Dude was a true point guard, and was my favorite out of UNC...

Haha, this fool tossed in Okulaja...LOL
Okulaja was just a role player when he started at UNC playing with Vince Carter and Jamison, but by his senior year he became pretty decent and could hit the 3's
He was on the 76ers roster during the preseason but didn't make the team
I remember him coming to Chapel Hill to play the Raptors at the Dean Dome for a preseason game
He's playing in his native Germany right now

I don't know if he ever did time for that assault
He punched some dude out during a pickup game at Woolen Gym (which is where EVERYONE, including Duke players, play pickup games at UNC) and ran
He's currently banned for life from ever playing there again :smh::lol:

I agree
I still don't understand to this day why Ed Cota didn't at least get a shot in the NBA
He wasn't a great shooter, but you don't have to be to play in the league
Jeff McInnis is still playing in the NBA for the Charlotte Bobcats right now
