I don't use the term, because I feel I'd be a hypocrite since I also don't use the N word.

But I'm not white, so I don't care if anyone else uses it

The word does not have its origin rooted in anything pertaining to slavery. That has become a common standing myth probably resulting from a mixture of revisionist history and the white mans desire to put a twisted positive spin on an insulting derogatory term while burying true history.

The word was originally British slag or colloquialism for worthless or crazy person (it also was used as an offensive term to describe scottish farmers). It was a term applied to the dregs of society, the scum of the scum. For those who know the history of the colonization of Australia, this is where they sent their "crackers".

The use of the word by blacks was based on the evil acts perpetrated by whites and a response to their animal like nature and obvious sickness. They were thought of to be a heartless, crazy species without a soul. The application of the term had NOTHING to do with the often referenced "cracking of the whip".

So please feel free to call a cac a cac without falsely thinking that you are somehow giving them props or referencing a master/slave relationship in any form or fashion.

I'd love it if the people who really find it offensive could chime in here. I'm kind of baffled by the whole idea... as I've explained earlier. I could see being offended by "devil", "genetic recessive" etc.... phrases that are driven by out-and-out racial animus but I don't see how anyone could equate the n-word and other real racial epithets with "cracker" while remaining intellectually honest.

It bears repeating, for myself, I know when I say "CAC" it's not really driven by racism as I don't even believe in the concept of "race".
