some people think eminem is on that nigga level.(2pac)
I'm feeling you on this "point". Both Are or were fear by other mc's. Both could cause nigga's to wild out with a few lines, and both had powerful proformances. And both had a fuck you whoever doesn't like this mind state".

Jay Z has written more than Biggie's lazy ass!

All Big does is lie around all day doin nothin!

ok, maybe that was a bad thing to say. . .

No He Didn't Die But, Encore Was More Than A Gag Title. Back Then It Was"Is He Gonna Quit","Nah That Nicca Killin' Em". To The Present Day, That Nicca Did What Jay-Z Couldn't. Can't Blame Em', Makin' Money Like Dre Offa 50:yes:.

Hands down Jay-Z!!!
Big had probably the best flow/delivery in the game,
and no matter what he spit it sounded like fire.
Thats why Jay always had to step his game up whenever they were on a track together to make sure he didn't get crushed on the delivery tip.

However Jay's lyrical prowess far out weighs Biggie.
Just take Jay-Z's use of the double entendre for instance. That alone makes him lyrically second to none

I have no idea what people from around the country think on this subject (or world) but I kno here in B.K.,Big is recognized for superior flow and cadence and overall charisma. Now when it comes to wordplay and overall lyrical superiority, you aint gonna get no better than jay. Well, you might, but we talking these 2 for now.Reasonable Doubt had inner/outer rhyme patterns b4 the shit was even cool to do it. We all hear stories about "niether one of them wrote",meanwhile if you go to the sources of people who was around them at the time, they will tell you that when jay was around, big wasn't finishing no verses in his head rite there. He wood start, then go get fucked up or bullshit, bounce from the studio, and go write the rest at home. He heard jay and thought "I gotta step my shit up". Please watch the making of reasonable doubt dvd,and also the notorious big dvd for clarification.

the title says lyrically not who was best when they were both alive.

until the thread title gets changed im sticking with jigga.

I have to agree with you on that one. Big was the man as far as status. But there were better mc's around at that time. Puffy made the East coast believe that Biggie could do no wrong but that wasnt the case.

But the test of true lyricism is this to me. I listen to Big's albums and get th same feeling as when I listen to them back in the day. As far as Jay, I'm still peeping new wordplay and themes in his lyrics from Reasonable Doubt.

Example - Jay-Z Politics As Usual:
Ten year feleon, heavy on the wrist, I face you
with the diamond flooded Jesus and blinded face youse (face jews)for life...

Jews are blinded by the fact that Jesus was the Messiah. Crazy reference in what he was trying to convey.

I just figured out the word play in those lines a couple of months ago and RD has many of lines like that. Sadly, Biggie albums doesn't.

Y'all Niggaz act like Big L don't exist?

I been hearing Jay Z rhyme since 89 and no way in hell is Biggie More Lyrically. But Jay Z did sound a lot like Big L

i think most of the dude that say jz have to be under 25. or missed the golden yrs of hip hop... yall dudes was still playing with legos and power rangers

..BIG OLE SCHOOL.now but when i speak golden yrs i am speaking 1987 1988..

BIG changed the game up.. only so many rappers do that.
off one album..

Jz not in the same skill league as big. altho he is very talented
i never thought J had a sweet RAPP Voice )tone)
VOICE .. Biggie had one of the illest vocal tones (VOICE). .
on top of his ablity.

alot of the music i hear from J his voice just doesnt match the music..
big seemed to aways stay in the right note.

. HEll EM is better than Jz maybe even royce..

right..................

Jay-z Hands Down...........Jay z is on some other shit.........U can listen to his songs and not even understand what he's sayin, and then u can be goin through something become more inclined to a certain situation listen to the same Jay-z song again and be like damn, so thats what he was saying.

Kingdome Come is probably one of his best albums and most of the shit he says just goes over a lot of peoples head. If ur a dummy or a Lame u will definitely disagree, but it's o.k. because I myself feel as though for those that actually listen to rap and don't just skim through it or jus listen for a beat can really learn a lot from certain lyracists, ecspecially Jay. Can't say I could learn anything from Bigs Lyrics.

Jay on Kingdome Come is on some other shit.......Not for dummys or lames at all. I think when dudes reach a certain pinnacle in life they actualy might understand some of the shit he's sayin, I'm jus glad i get it now.

Why is it that to try and prove a point mufukaz have to start (wrongly) speculating on people on the boards age/location? I'm not "under 25" and it was already stated that big had a better voice and flow. What was said was "lyrical superiority and wordplay". I shall now go and throw on MM...FOOD

Somebody needs to just go ahead and post Friend or foe 98. Then wait for those that said big was lyrically better to post proof.

Big = blue collar rapper.
Jay = white collar rapper.

No doubt Jay-Z was more complex at the time. He was older and more studious. But BIG was nicer than Jay all around. Listen to the joints they had together. Big trumped him. Listen to every track Beans did with Jay, Beans trumped him.

nope you don't, cause you just proved that jay is better

That fat nigga didn't have the body of work that jay had even when he was alive. nigga was lazy, pac prove that. I believe jay only says that good shit about big because if he didn't then niggas would hate. I can name 10 rappers that are better then him without even trying. Have you even tried to decode Ghostface's flow and shit? Man you biggie dick riders kill me.

Although, I do agree that quiet as kept Ghost may have been the most consistently great rapper out of NY, you can't front on B.I.G.

Big had presence, incredible imagery and a gift for getting his point across...Jay has always been the clever "Monster of the double entendre". But the debate over who is better could go on forever. It's like comparing Mike Tyson in his Prime to Ali in his prime.

Are You Serious??? This Can't Be Done Right Enough To Satisify Fans. B.I.G Didn't Live Long Enough To Have Enough Material To Compare. You Can Only Compare B.I.G's 2 Albums And Work Released Until 1996 And Jay's 1st Album With Work Put In On Remixes And Vice Versa. I Will Say This, If B.I.G Was Still Alive, Him And Jay Would've Given Us Even Better Songs To Listen And Think About:yes:

GILLA ... I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER PATNA' ... !!!!!!!!!

and youre one of those ppl that think that local kid at the ymca that can dunk at age 11 is already better than jordan....

lame come back...if you got nothin real to say then spare your keyboard the trouble...your comment doesn't even address anything...how old are you?

well i been listening to rap since i was 4 (i'm 26)...do the math...and your comment might be valid in another thread but we aren't debating the sound of a voice, or he flo, or the "right note"...this is lyrics...and sad to say biggie had more than a few lines that just weren't all that creative...

biggie would be on top if he were still alive...but that don't mean shit either...50 cent outselling everybody and we all know noone is gonna say he is a lyrical master

I just saw dat movie Serenity for the first time mah nigga...Ya gurl was whoopin some major ass in dat bitch:dance::lol::yes:

Yes, she can be quite a handfull when she wants to be.lol...

Who fuckin cares, an overrated dead rapper, and some giraffe-lookin mofo who's been putting out the same album since Reasonable Doubt. NAS changed the game totally with Illmatic, the west coast had shit locked and Nas threw NY back on the map like no rapper since Rakim. Biggie was too fuckin simplistic to be called lyrical and Jay is too unoriginal. Am I the only one who thought it was a fucking joke that Jay named his album American Gangster right after the flick dropped, that's some corny azz shit. Gimme Nas over both these cats, R.I.P to Big tho who was probably one of the most creative cats in the game during his time.
