Hotel Rwanda
Roots
Malcolm X

what can I say? I love my people!
but I hate "their" history!

oh, and I shed a tear when Cain got killed in Menace II Society. :smh:  (I was young)

Plenty of heart-tugging moments throughout, but the climax when we finally see brief glimpses of the morgue photos of the little girls (contrasted with their lively, smiling faces in other pictures) is devastating.

I know that most of y'all are not going to admit it, but i'm sure 99.44 percent of y'all have seen such a movie. I'm man enough to admit that I've seen a few movies over the years that had such an effect.

Yesterday, I was watching SELENA on cable and a tear didn't fall, but my eyes filled up when they showed the scene when the doctor came into the waiting room and told her family of the bad news. That was the exact scene for my family when the doctor came in the room and told us my mom had just passed away, and that brought back some sad memories. :(

So don't lie, who has seen movies that had this effect on you and which movies were they? It doesn't mean that you're "soft" or anything, to me it just means that you're human. I have a few more, I just have to think of them and post them later.

JLO made you cry?

damn man

Glory, Hotel Rwanda, We are Marshall, I like to see people overcome great obsticles that are in their path and strive for better especially in sports movies. There are many that are good you all have pretty much listed everyone that comes to mind frequently and yes even bambi (at one point). Shit was sad for real.

I like to see people overcome great obsticles that are in their path and strive for better ...

Definitely. Films about achieving-against-the-odds produce powerful emotions. The last scene in Akeelah and the Bee, when people from her life spell out the final word for her into the camera, is a good example.

Teacher/student films work in this way as well. Who can forget "O captain, my captain," at the end of Dead Poets Society?

- My Dog Skip
- Saw it in the summer of 2000 with my younger brother shortly after our own family dog had passed
- Had to put our black lab (13.5 years old) down in June 2000 due to severe respiratory problems
- I know there's thousands of us dog fans here as BGOL fam' ... this shit hit home for me (movie starred Frankie Muniz, Kevin Bacon, and others)
- It hit home for me in that like most people ... my opinion is that dogs are the MOST LOYAL/SINCERE creatures in the entire world. Our family dog was a TRUE member of the family. He was a part of everything ... got tons of exercise ... was of great disposition and lived a full, happy life (came on vacations and swam in many an ocean all over the place). I cried like a muthafucka the day we had to have him put down (it was like losing an otherwise healthy younger brother) ... and I left the room after watching the end of this picture and started to tear up something harsh ... got hit by a couple of thousand memories all at once ...

It's a love story essentially (beautiful special effects too).

If you watch this movie with a broken heart...prepare yourself...it will fuck you up !

:D

The only movies I ever cried at were E.T. when I was like 8 and Bambozzled.

The end of bambozzled when they show all the minstrel images hurt more then anything else I've scene on film.

Man i thought i was the only one with bambozzled... The ending had me fucked up and then it was the jazz music playing that made it felt like this is how "they" see us... I was like damn. If ya ain't seen the movie go and rent that shit. I think that was one of Spikes best work man......

Finding Forrester---when Sean Connery saw his first game and when he came to class to read the assignment

Untouchables--

Man on Fire----when she gave him the bear

Rocky, Rocky II--when he lost, when he won, when he asked her to marry her

and most all of what was already said...got to check out a few of those I missed

The Color Purple

Philadelphia. I had to watch the movie in HS and at the end when they're at the party in Tom Hanks' characters memory, and the song is playing and its saying something like "don't turn your back on me"...I ran out of the classroom crying.

The HBO movie "Life Support", at the end where they're letting the balloons fly in memory of their loved ones that have died from the virus and the music ("This Woman's Work) doesn't help. The reason these 2 movies move me to tears is because eventually, that'll be me and my family burying someone due to this virus.

Fievel: An American Tale. When Fievel and his sister are looking at the moon at the same time and "Somewhere out there" is playing...it took me more than 10 years to be able to hear that song without crying.
