No Particular Order....
I go by what I hear as a person who focuses foremost on lyricism...
Yes Sir.... Cube has killed all of his callobos up until 2007...That's fair and i respect your opinion. But the problem is that your definition of "lyricism", doesn't include story telling ability, gravity of truth, reflection of the world, etc.
I say this cause you said you don't have Biggie in your top five and place Black Thought in the same discussion (which tells me a lot about your listening tastes).
I just say this, listen to Death Certificate(my fav) again but especially listen to how the album is arranged (life and death side) and especially listen to My Summer Vacation.
My 2 cents.
NWA dropped in 86....Kane in 88, Kool G rap dropped in 1990...Slick Rick dropped the show in 85...but other than that...I can keep naming Mc's
Cube influenced a WHOLE COAST...but definitely not the east...
Before heads come in with that West Coast Gangsta shit influencing the East Coast....Kool G...was the main cat who came on that killer shit on the East....
So In essence....Wtf are YOU talking about....?![]()
The fuck? Lets not talk some frestyle bs saying "kill him on the mic" I dare you to find a better relevant line than "rather be judge by twelve than carried by six". People still use that saying today.
I can honestly say I cannot name 9 emcees that is singlehandedly better than cube. the facts are he is in the Top 10 discussion, period.
Only rapper I know of that's supported by the same people he used to diss on records: Whites and Jews.
And as for as lyrics: you cats need to stop follow that 20+ year old Rakim format. Ice Cube lyrics are so graphic, he's basically a rapping screenwriter. For example, if you've seen his video (can't the name but Mack 10 made his debut on it) "That's What I gotta Do", every bar reflects a scene in the story as it develops. Stella story writing skills. Serious character development in his lyrics. All that polysyllabic rhyming and varied rhyme schemes and other rapping parlor tricks looks amazing UNTIL the rapper writes with substance. The last time I heard fancy rhyming with a smooth short story was "A story to tell" by none other...
BTW Bird in the Hand is one of the greatest Rap records of all time. Fuck the haters

Top 20 because of his little Don Mega stint. Without that about 5 year run there he'd be top 15.

anybody who listens to cube's verse from the westside connection against both common and cypress will tell u cube fuked BOTH of um up. you don't know sheit about emceein
WTF are you talking about. You new York Ninjas was wearing polka dots, rapping about blue cheese and Hawaiian Sofie when the west was gangster.
NWA/ICE CUBE > all of New York Rap cause we fathered the new breed.![]()
Ok, so it seems that an MC getting smashed by another somehow diminishes his overall body of work or his accomplishments? Yes, Common may have scored one of the best diss tracks in history on Cube, I agree.
I find this an interesting post because I thought the same question myself about a year ago. Maybe the question should be "Is Cube one of the greatest Hip-Hop writers of all time?". I say this because you have to consider that he single handedly put the West on the map by writing ALL of NWA's lyrics, then his own, THEN movie scripts and reality TV show(s). That's pretty hefty considering that all the great MC's back in the day did some ghost writing here or there but none did it to that magnitude and completely changed the culture to shift from one focus to another ie East to West.
somewhere in the 4 - 10 range...He's one of the greatest...

If certain rappers can be top off two albums Cube should be there also from 1988/89 -1992 Cube was your favorite rapper's rapper. I'm from the East Coast I remember how Cube getting love from east coast rappers because of his lyrics.

#1. Ice Cube released 4 consecutive rock solid albums between 1990 and 1993. Most old school rappers can't claim that.
Oh, and Common is a faggot. That hypocrite became the very thing he dissed Ice Cube of being back in the day.
