What's the best CON/SCAM that you've heard or seen?

Kirby $1800 vacuums …. they still selling them shits …. when I first brought my house they came in and did a demonstration....

.

Pretty sure my grandparents (rest in peace) bought some high-end green one (or similar brand) back in the day from a salesman. Just outta the blue. My dad forever brings up that vacuum like - "What the fuck were they thinking?" (running joke)

Especially these days with affordable prices by comparison (various makes and models).

1. Disproportionately...the people who can least afford to play [poor people]...are the ones who are playin' the most...and spending money that could be used on necessities...

2. Disproportionately...the people who work at the convenience stores win more often than the average person...and rarely does the government investigate that....and when a journalist or investigative reporter asks lottery officials about that issue...the lottery officials get angry at the JOURNALIST...

3. The government says the money goes to education...when it either doesn't...or for every dollar they put into the education budget....they take a dollar or more out and allocate it somewhere else...so there is no net gain...and sometimes there's even a net loss of money..in the education budget...

4. And as you mentioned...the odds are shitty...but most people cannot comprehend how shitty those odds are...you are more likely to have a vending machine fall on you and kill you...or becoming an astronaut....or winning an oscar...or being struck by lightning multiple times...

5. The government outlawed it when the mob was runnin' it....but then turned around and made it legal for them to run 'em...

I'm probably missin' some reasons...or maybe things have gotten better....since I last read up on it....i jus decided long ago...i was never gonna play...

If you enjoy playin'...and you have the discretionary income to do so...then i'm not here to rain on your parade....
None of what you said here makes it a scam …. the stupidity of the masses doen't make it a scam …. desperation and bad odds just makes them stupid for risking their money

.

"Hey, put your money in here and I'll hold it for you. While it's in here I'm going to loan it out to other people and charge them interest to pay me back. By the way, you don't get a cut of the profit"

I understand that the lottery is largely a scam. I play only when the jackpot is over 100 million and I only play $2 per $100 million

This way, I don't play all the time. I've got his good chance at guessing your full name as I have a winning in the lottery and I don't even know you bro

on a smaller scale....some of those panhandlers...on the side of the road...make around $15 an hour or more...jus beggin' for money....

some of them..might even have nicer homes...than those of us...who work for a living....
Able bodied people asking for change, and the amount of money they make and the people who give.

Trust me it ain't as small a scale as you might think … they did a 60 min type shit on that once …. mofo was making like $300 a day at Penn station ... they filmed him from a distance ..... when he was done .... he walked down the street to a late model Cadillac .... opened up the trunk …. pulled out some clean clothes and sneakers …. changed …. combed his hair and drove off …. and I'd rather give the money to the lil hustla kids that clean your windows at intersections … at least they try to work for the change instead of being able bodied …. and with a cigarette in their mouths … begging … like I'm going to support their smoke habit … :hmm:

Googled Kirbys … because they're metal they're supposed to be a 20-30 year vacuum and better than a Dyson .... $800-1200 range though they sell them door to door for more I think

.

im shocked that this hasn’t happened more often or hasn’t been reported as such. That a big ass company like google got hit is crazy but there’s plenty of places where account payable cuts checks without proper fiscal controls; old ass women just pay what invoices come in.
Man the old me wants to try this shit so bad! I know I can get away with it too because I know how to get and get with shit.

Thanks for the intel. Their vacuum held up pretty well over the years. Just that overpriced cost that was always frustrating to hear about. Funny to think about how much prices have changed over the years on electronics, smaller and larger appliances, cars, etc. Some stuff is actually built well, and other stuff is shit and breaks down well before it probably should. Then you've got other stuff you want to toss in the trash or recycle, but is built too well and seemingly's never faulty or has any issues and that you happily keep just off of GP. Personal examples - car, laptop, Ipods.

I actually worked for Kirby for a few weeks before I said fuck it back in my college years. Once I saw what the gimmick was, I knew it was time to go. I did manage to sell one.

My niece told me she was offered a 84 month car note. :smh: As someone who only leases because the thought of owning a depreciating asset is crazy, this seemed like the scam of all scams...

NP …. Imma be honest, when they came by my crib , I was surprised at how much dirt they pulled out of the carpet, that my girl had vacuumed with a new Hoover ….. I thought that they had dirt and dust already in the Kirby …. but he dumped it and did another area …. the price was what fucked me up … and money was tight with all the extra shit I was doing inside and outside of the house … (landscaping, adding a driveway for the tenants, etc.) … thinking in retrospect and with the numerous vacuums that I've brought since …. for the $800-1200 range it would've been good, but I think that they were pushing over $1500 …. like $1800 … I could be wrong though.

anything past 48 really is BS ... 60 is passible .... but anything past that is like rent-to-own shit .... if you can't afford 60 …. and have to go 72 or worse 84 …. maybe you're in the wrong market and should be looking at Hyundai or Kia … a low end one at that and focus on other shit

Agreed. It's a tough decision when you've got other costs and factors at play (inside & outside upgrades). One of my coworkers does carpet cleaning as his side hustle. Pays quite well and he's got some type of high-end industrial vac'. Sometimes picks up small contracts at apartment buildings, etc. He said it's surprising how dirty "clean" carpets can actually be when you get right down to it. Also, when people let their places go and don't care at all ... those "bad" carpets are terrible. Coworker plans to retire in 3 - 4 years. I have a feeling he'll up the carpet cleaning side biz as it pays so well, plus it's closer to home.

For the people that said organized religion is the best scam ever, it is not.. Big bizz/ banks convincing humans that they only exist to run their operations and generate money for them.. In a sense humans are juss living batteries..used to energize the machine and when you are no longer useful are thrown away and replaced by new batteries aka the new generation... Remember even atheist work... Big bizz>>>organized religion
May have to disagree with you on that one. At least with a bank, you MAY get some small return on your investment. What exactly do you get from organized religion other than fuzzy warm feelings?

Christianity.
Slaveholders would practice it while outright not following it. Then they would preach it to slaves to keep them docile. The slaves would keep following it. Even after being free. AND... would continue to worship a white impossible version of jesus that looks like he is from Sweden.

While you always have to watch out for the Con, you also have to respect it when respect's due
What are some of the brilliant scams that you've witnessed over the years?

- Heard of a lady who used to take Kool-Aid packets at Wal-Mart, and place them over the tag of shit like clothing items and toys. That way she'd have to pay a fraction of the cost.

That only works if its an inside job. An old friend of mine used to do something similar. He went to Toy's R Us, took the barcode sticker off of books(about $2) and put them over the barcode of the most expensive shit there. Then he would return it for cash and store credit.

I don’t play lotto but none of that makes it a scam. I know people who have won tens of thousands playing scratchers also. Just because people are idiots and ignore the odds doesn’t really mean shit. You don’t need to hit the jackpot to win. You can get 4 and the mega number and win thousands on large jackpots.

Yeah, I don't think banks are a scam either. If you don't like the low returns on checking/savings, there are so many other very safe ways to get a higher rate of return. I am actually banned from talking about religion with older family members for suggesting that since prayer is powerful and real they should "pray" for the pastor's salary car/house payments and not pass that collection plate to prove me and the other doubters wrong. Shit did not go over well...

I know I've spoke on this in the past. But it's been a long time since.

Well mostly what was already mentioned, I can confirm they over priced vaccums so it seems like your giving the customer a deal. But you commission comes from the money to cut down. For instance, the price would be around 1,300. But you could go down to 800. Maybe a little lower than that. The vacuum of course cost lower than that. The vacuums do work, but it's powerful that way to impress the folks with how well it works. In order to prove how dirty your carpet really is they would have target older houses. I'll never forget the houses that smelled of animal waste and dirty ass fish tanks with fish way to fucking big for the tank they were in. You also run the risk of that homeowner already owning one or having heard the same sales pitch a billion times, but they don't mind a free living room carpet cleaning from the demonstration. Smh.

People would get to work and break up in groups alternate different neighborhoods. Keepingvtrck of what happened at each house we attempted to pitch to. The was a method to the madness. The tram leader would pick his team dependant on what to of customers you might have. And who they thought they could get to drink the Kool aid.

The biggest thing is the bed demonstration where it pulls the dirt and dust mites out of your bed. Since people have tendencies to keep mattresses longer than they should, of course it would be filthy. For people with pets and kids, seeing how much the vacuum pulls of the high traffic areas can be shocking. People normally end up embarrassed at how dirty their place is more than anything else. So if doesn't get some one to buy it, you just wasted an hour and change.

Now when it comes to those who "like" to work there. These folk enjoy being conmen and grimey. Nothing brings races and genders together more than the desire to be a shiesty muthafucka. You can make money, you have to be okay with what you were doing.

I've actually been to this seminar in Tennessee. Shit was like a cult meeting.

What time people sleep, eat, interact with family and friends, the way they function throughout the whole day directly is around their job... Essentially their life is revolving around their occupation... Take away their job and give them a 6 fig allowance each yr to take care of shelter, food, bills, transportation , entertainment and guess what most people couldn't imagine or better yet wouldn't even know what to do with all that time... You couldn't imagine going to sleep or waking up anytime you wanted to, you çouldnt imagine waking up with a clear schedule and being able to do whatever you probably wanted to do within your funds... You know why cause big bizz created a world where you couldn't comprehend that concept..they created a world where you are a slave with invisible chains that soul purpose is to keep their moneymaking operations afloat... An animal born in a zoo that doesn't know that the wild exist thinks their purpose is to be displayed for human entertainment, they don't know that the wild exist and that they could run around freely mating, eating, chilling... Juss like humans born under the big bizz concept of humans working to run their operations couldn't imagine a world of freedom to maneuver the world with an open schedule... Nothing on earth has more humans controlled under this system/ mindset than big bizz... Religion couldn't touch corporate when it comes to controlling human behavior... Like I said b4 even atheist work... Religious people still sin, still lie, cheat, steal, consume drugs/liqs, have premarital sex, still lust, envy, have vanity, etc they still break most rules...people go against religious morals everyday but how many go against the power of big bizz? They brainwashed people so much that humans can't comprehend not working

You seem to be ignoring that the need to create, function, be a value to society (being productive) was around LONG before big business. Even in your scenario, there have been billionaires who have done everything you suggested and admitted their mindset would not let them sit on their hands and do nothing, and I don't think it's because they are some mindless drone (just my opinion). Hell look at Trump. No matter how rich he is (we assume he has some wealth, just debatable as to how much), he's always looking for something new to keep him busy and relevant (even running for President as a stunt).

I would argue that a lot that mindset originated from religion. Of course, big business has tapped into that need to create cheap labor and big profits by capitalizing on that need to be a value to society (which I think you and I can agree on). I wold also argue that the first organized "corporation" was probably religious in nature.

Where the school at?.....................You got conscious dudes with far less resources with schools up and running (i.e. Que Butter)

Not to mention, with the rise of ADOS/FBA the Pan-Africanism thing is fading out of Black America

A seven year car loan???? You said offered. I hope she didn't take it.
