For the podcast listeners, you might want to also check out season 3 of Slow Burn. Listening to episode 3 at the moment. They did an 8-episode feature on Pac and Biggie. It's a good listen.

In its first two seasons, Slow Burn looked back at two of the biggest stories of the late 20th century—the Watergate scandal and the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Season three tackles another: the murders of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. The story takes place at a moment when hip-hop was taking over pop culture, and a former theater kid from the Bay Area and a one-time crack dealer from Brooklyn were changing the music forever. They went from friends to enemies. And they ended up victims of a deadly rivalry between two rap scenes.

How is it that two of the most famous performers in the world were murdered within a year of each other—and their killings were never solved?

Slow Burn is a narrative podcast produced by Slate Plus, a division of Slate. The first two seasons of the podcast are hosted by Leon Neyfakh[1]; the third season of the show, released in 2019, is hosted by Joel Anderson[2].

The first season is about the Watergate scandal featuring interviews with Bob Woodward among others.

The second is about the Impeachment of Bill Clinton featuring an interview with Linda Tripp, among others.

The third season covers the growing tension between rappers Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. in the 1990s[3].

The podcast premiered on November 28, 2017 and became "one of the top shows on Apple Podcasts."[4]

It was announced in February 2019 that Epix is producing a six-part television series based on the first season Watergate investigation that will premiere on February 16, 2020.[5][6][7]

I listened. It was ok, not really anything that hasn't been reported already. It was well done though.

The previous seasons were more interesting to me, Watergate and Clinton's impeachment, because I didn't know that much about them.

I'm also currently listening to Atlanta Monster because of Mindhunter

This season it's DC Sniper

Thanks - I'll check out the previous seasons also. Hadn't heard of Atlanta Monster - thanks for the intel on it.

I need to get caught up on past Heat Rocks episodes. They do a good job analyzing past classic albums. Listened to the ATCQ and Outkast episodes last night.

Agreed. There's so many podcasts to choose from these days. I like the indy & amateur ones too - given the hosts are often self-taught (and doing a pretty damn good job at it too). I like when they shoutout other podcasts too ... spreading the love ... "If you like this show ... check out these ones"-type thing ...

Its crazy

When you the damn near CINEMATIC production on some of these podcasts in a way its a little unsettling

It sounds perfect

I'm not saying thats a bad thing

but its not what i think podcasts were REALLY meant to sound like

I like Bomani

one mic clear no echo great sound quality but not perfect and just smart funny heart felt stories and connections

I like the espn hoop collective

Same thing not OVERLY produced but still entertaining listen.

Juan Epstein NOW? damn sounds so freaking professional again not a bad thing but it does change the experience

Malcolm gladwell, most of the ringer stuff is so damn polished

I think that is actually INTIMIDATING to anyone who wants to start NOW.

Agreed - so many people doing it well & professionally-sounding. I'm always baffled at some of the episode file sizes too, as they vary so much (even when sound quality doesn't seem to differ too much between shows/platforms). I'm not sure of all the equipment or gear everyone's using ... and how audio is recorded, compressed, uploaded and so on ... but damn ... I've seen filesizes vary anywhere from 5mb to nearly 2GB. Crazy, lol.

For some reason some 1 hour - 1.5 hour shows will be 20 - 40mb. Then I've accidentally downloaded my regular podcasts from some sites and they'll be 800mb (for 10 minutes), or most recently a 1-hour show which was just over 1.8GB. I was like WTF is going on? The 800mb and 1.8GB file sizes are typically 60 - 105mb when they've uploaded similar stuff over the years.

:roflmao3:

Shaka - any shows you listen to regularly?

I'm currently catching up on some recent episodes of The Corner.

They cover boxing, MMA, hiphop & pop culture, and pro wrestling.

Co-hosted by Kel Dansby & Andreas Hale.

EXACTLY

I think not to get all techy in this thread but that WILL become a problem soon

There will be a need for some form of consistency

And also in length

Not EVERYONE needs an hour, i know YOU know this.

I would rather SHORTER episodes that were released on time CONSISTENTLY instead of damn rambling nerd gasms.

Having said that

Fatman beyond could be 2 hours and i aint complaining

Agreed. Much love to the shows that have a good format, and regular schedule. You know what to expect as a listener. I've heard many podcasters say the worst thing you can do when building a following is have a spotty upload schedule. If you're uploading too much - people will fall behind on their listening. If you go LONG stretches of many weeks (or months) without a show, people will in turn forget about you. Have a routine and remind people & plug the content on your Twitter or IG. Make it part of peoples' routines. And with the sheer volume of shows these days, it's like trying to keep up with movie or music/TV episode releases. Try to multi-task as best you can. Listen to shows when you're doing other stuff like regular 'net browsing, running errands, at the gym, or in the car / on the subway. Whatever the case may be. Or just doing mundane shit at home like paperwork or cleaning up, doing the dishes ... put a playlist on with the shows in the background or on some earbuds or headphones/pods.

I heard good things about this.

Very good show. They're long-time friends. Andreas is still based in Vegas, and Kel's now in Connecticut if I remember correctly (working with ESPN). Andreas is still affiliated with DAZN, Sporting News, etc. They know their stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are fellow BGOL members. Shoutout to them if they're reading this, and/or have browsed the board in the past. Good dudes.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Yes - shows like 'Stuff You Need to Know' and ones that have similar formats & research are great. Very informative.

Thanks for the intel about Karen Hunter.

Props for the Karen Hunter suggestion.....just started checking some of her podcasts out, the installments where the broke down episodes of "The Watchmen" were off the hook!, full of very insightful discussions...

"The Model Health show" with Shawn Stevenson is another podcast i listen to

Just started listening to this podcast in recent weeks. About 4 eps in so far. Pretty good. Looks like they have plenty of content with their back catalogue of episodes. I'm listening to the early episodes from the Netflix vs. Blockbuster portion ...
