There' a major difference in how northern africans in that particular region practiced christianity.
And how the europeans practice it in the americas.
And also. Most black african slaves that were brought to the americas, were from western, to south western africa. There were slaves who were taken from the south east of africa but they went to south america. They didn't practice christianity either.

Americans think the first time black folx were introduced to Christianity was after becoming enslaved. Ethiopia had Christianity as its official religion centuries ago. According to biblical text it was introduced to them in biblical times. It is the primary religion there today:
