Who would you call a genius? Are there people noted as genius whom you'd argue are not?

A genius to me is someone who is a master in the art of logic. They can use it to make quicker and wiser decisions than most. Can manipulate for artistic purposes or even financial gain, And can use it to teach others.
 
The first two definitions are the only two we need to be concerned with.

(If #3 is taken literally and applied to people, every king is a genius. "Barack Obama is even more of a genius than George Bush! And George Bush was the biggest genius we've ever had in the Oval Office!" #4 is either the zeitgeist or something sprung from genius.)

Personally, the "or creative" and "or creative power" parts are factored out of my thinking unless it springs from something intelligent. At which point, genius still stems from intelligence.

Basically, creative dumb shit is not genius. I don't think Kanye West or Howard Stern are geniuses when the vast majority of their respective works are based in dumb shit. Which is totally subjective, of course, but genius always will be. Regardless of whether you agree in my assessment of the particular examples, would anyone argue that someone whose creativity is only based in and solely producing bullshit-- things devoid of intelligence-- can be a genius?

And a flash or few flashes of genius does not make a genius.

There is a saying that "Great minds discuss ideas; small minds discuss people"

For someone to concentrate on the notion that this thread has been destroyed
and to call people names is the epitome of the small mind mentality. If you
disagree with the geniuses I have come up with, say why. The OP put Kanye
on his list of musicians, which I do not agree with, and so I put the names of
3 musicians who are superior to any American who has ever played music. This
is what, as usual, may have pissed you. Guess what, that is your problem... Then
I also listed 4 people who were key in wiping out European colonialism from Africa;
to me these people are greater geniuses than Einstein. If someone said that the
slave owner, George Washington, was a genius for ending direct English rule of
America, I am sure most of you would not object..As for Neils Bohr, this man is
the greatest scientist in the last 300 years, and maybe of all time. His quantum
mechanics is what makes tvs, fluorescent lights, computers, radios, computer
GPS, smart phones etc etc etc etc etc possible. Bohr, not Einstein, is the one
responsible for the world in which we live.

This is an open forum, there is nothing to stop any of you from continuing this
thread, assuming that you even have relevant contributions to make to it.
