What do you consider a decent salary for a grown man @ 36?

Da Don, where exactly in the US would one live comfortably off 25k?

I know this was directed towards Da Don, however w/ no debt, single and living simply it's quite easy to live off that in almost every major metro area in the US....just gotta have discipline.

Dawg honestly that shit baffles me. I'd wish they post what their doing to sneeze at 45k. I didnt even list my every other weekend job at the hospital which nets me about 6500 a year assiting XRay techs. My total net will be about 51k between both jobs. I have to save more though. Thats where the real problem may be actually

yea man...that 2k savings with no car note and a 850 mortgage
u claim not to be too social...WHAT ARE YOU DOIN WITH YOUR MONEY?

IMHO its how much you can save while living comfortably.

I think 10-15 k a year saved in CASH, is the bottom line.

Dont care if you can do it on 35k a year or 100k, if you cant end the year saving 10-15k in cash you doing something wrong IMHO.

Most americans mismanage their money, they "keep up with joneses". Get paid more, they get a bigger house and a bigger car not. :smh: :smh: :smh:

If americans followed the 10-15k rule there would be no fucking problems. The fact is most americans dont have access to more than 2k in cash. :smh: :smh: :smh:

Cats making 100k are just as dependent on their job as cats making 35k. Paycheck to paycheck no matter how large. :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh: I seen many cats at 100k getting foreclosed on when shit hits th fan.

depends on where you're at.

if you live in los angeles making $45K per year... :smh::smh::smh:

if you live in gulfport, mississippi...:yes::yes:

cleveland.
many places in nc.

single? you can get a clean decent area, 2 bedroom for 500
allot 200 a month for gas
250 on utilities
100 on food

I think I'm gonna throw up. $500 a month will get you a basement apartment in Queens, NY.

Damn NYC is expensive.

A $100K salary in NYC get you the same as a $46.5K salary in Raleigh. :smh::smh:

Before I bought my house I had 15k saved. I didnt want 100% financing or adjustable rates. I put 10k down and had to pay closing. I bought average furniture and new windows. All cash. I'll get there again.

LMAO bruh. When I left NY a year and half ago I was living in a basement apartment paying 650 (with AC) a month. I was making 43k. I use to have to scratch up change to get a slice of pizza as dinner. I bounced and never looked back

45k is okay if you have no kids...and don't live in LA or NYC

2k in the bank...IMO thats not aight....you need to stack up more...

45k entry is aight....

Single what you need 2 bedrooms for? For 700$ in ohio you can have indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, spa garage, heat paid for and be living in westlake, avon, mayfield, etc. Light bill will be 30$ a month. If that aint comfort for most people I dont know WTF is. Most times you will be right on the bus line, so if gas is killing you park your car and take the bus.

:dunno:

Outside of NY and LA, I dont know wtf these cats are doing with their money. I know in NY cats are paying 1500 for shit you can get in ohio for 5-6. :smh: :smh: :smh:

You can do it in Kansas City, Missouri or Kansas City, Kansas easily, under the following conditions:

~Rent < $800/month
~Little debt (car note, credit cards, loans)
~No dependents
~Shopping in bulk (Costco/Sam's)
~Drive >200 miles per week
Kansas????????? What good is 45k when Hurricanes come thru every year and blow your house to the next county?

You're doing alright for yourself. I know plenty of kats here in DC make $75k+ that don't have their own crib. It's not what you make it's what you put away. Forget makin' it rai...I like nice weather myself and as long as I have money and can do most of the things I want I am happy. If I can't I save a little until I can. Proper planning and budgeting is where it's at. If you can do that you're good. Hell the president and his crew can't even do that just look at the debt they got us in :smh:. Just remember never spend more than you bring in per month and you'll be alright!

No disrespect to the cheap cost of living but last time I heard Ohio's economy is going downhill.

As I said, people are fucking idiots. Anybody in ohio can verify you can live good if you are SINGLE off 2k a month. Everything you make over that should be saved, and you will not have problems in life.

The problem is these idiots get married and have kids young, than its a wrap. Most the people you hear bitching about the ohio economy are not single.

Insurance is key! If you can't afford to pay it relocate to an area that is more favorable to your existence. You gotta build not rebuild feel me.

Money ain't that big a deal to me. I think I am going to get a teaching gig and enjoy the hours and vacation time.

No matter how much people make they allways want more. lol @ "only 45k". Everybody's different and their definition of "success" is gonna be different. Seems like you tryin to get wealthy from a job and that's not likely. Need to invest. Live at 30k a year and save 15 and invest it.

agreed. I save 30k a year. I live debt free...drive the same old beat up Rav 4 I've had for years. I own my house.....

making 100k is not an easy feat without being self employed or going to graduate school (limited to law, medical, pharmacy, not a doctorate in agriculture)

It's easier than you think, and no you don't have to be self employed or going to grad school. You just need a marketable, somewhat specialized skill.

That being said 45k for entry level is decent, but with peoplesoft skills you could probably pull more. Get the experience on paper and you'll easily advance. Peoplesoft, especially development, is one of those specialized skills that has potential to make alot more (I've seen postings starting at 80k+). Go the contractor route and you'll potentially make more.

oh ok
i feel you man, keep pushing bro!

Saving is hard especially when shit comes up like car repairs or un expected expenses. In the Bay area you have to make at least 60k to even rent a decent place. I make over 100k and im' comfortable but there are times when money runs thin. I have about 50k cash saved and I own a condo.

Peace fam. I know a lot of factors matter but here is the run down. I'm 36 living in Philly. I just got promoted to an awesome entry level position in Peoplesoft applications, but its only paying 45k.

I like to say 20 bucks an hour is the new minimum wage for adults. I cant seem to get much more than that. I feel so far behind my white counterparts too.

Own my own crib, got a 96 maxima in great condition. 2k in savings and 4500 in 401k.

Whats should a grown man really be making in your opinion?

I say it all depends on how hard you're willing to work and how much u want to sacrifice.
Right now I clock over 90K a year but I work two jobs, both full time.(not for everyone, I know.) If you're willing to grind and go all out sky's the limit

philly wise though, you should be okay at 45k.

I live in Philly and 45k is hardly enough...then it depends on your lifestyle...

I would agree with what he said. At 36 years old I would think a decent income would be between $50 - 75, 000. Anything more than that and your doing quite well.

At 36 moreso closer to the $75 - $120,000 range. Depends on your profession, if you are single and if you have kids.

Being really (really) conservative I would say making $50k by 40 yrs old is decent for a single man. As the years progress try to increase your income by 5% to account for inflation. The savings is kind of low for 36, but you still have time to build. Your house is a great investment. If you are planning on staying there try to have it paid off before you retire. Mortgages will be your biggest money drain (excluding health care) once you stop working.

Good luck man.

My salary where I work would have me balling. Out here in LA, I'm just cool. Some money in the bank, condo etc. Regular grown man shit.

In Cleveland I make just over $36K Mid-West money. Not bad. I'm 31, married to a soon-to-be-Registered Nurse (no kids, still renting for now), so we will be cool.

I'm in Cleveland too and I make 47k, the wife about 39k. I own my home, two kids and have a descent savings and 401k. We have learned to be smarter with spending over the last few years so our money seems to go a long way here, but I travel a lot and realize that we may be struggling if we were in a larger city.
