I'm sure all of us have been misunderstood at one time or another....

I'll set it off...

I look mean, unapprochable, and anti-social -

I've been told that alot of times, but like the old saying goes looks can be decieving...actually i'm the total opposite:)

Hmm, alot of people think I'm African for some reason.

A lot of people think I'm a hard worker but I'm really lazy.

Most people think I'm in my late twenties but that's a good misconception! :p

Some men assume I'm gay or bisexual.

Often when I'm applying for jobs, recruiters assume I'm a man. They always sound surprised on the phone.

Oh and most people think I'm white on the phone.

Thats the first time I've ever heard of the term tragic mulatto. Interesting.

Would you throw 'mean' in there too. Man sometimes your posts can be pretty venomous.

Tragic mulatto?

I've never heard that in my life. What is that supposed to mean?

And you say white and black? So you don't identify with one race right?

I am glad you see the stupidity of this one time.
The only identity I have is ME. For all intensive purposes I am black. I am not into this mixed seperatism shit and I hate the word mulatto.

The "tragic mulatto" thing is a common stereotype perpetuated both by blacks and whites. There is even a painting named so. Anyway, the myth is that we mixed people don't fit with white(but want to) and don't fit with black so we are all fucked up or something.

White people are alot more confused and have alot more issues with it

Anyway fuck all a dem. Bless.

Thanks for the education. In all my life, I had not heard of this.

I'm afraid not. But I'll rent it if you suggest I do.

well its a classic and it would give alot of insight into the "tragic mulatto" myth. the movie made me cry like a baby. there are 2 versions one from 1934 and one from 1959. i don't know if you are into classic cinema or not but check the 59 one first then the 34 one.

anyway, alot of mixed people are indeed on that "try to pass" (an sometimes suceed) shit :smh: obviously we don't get along too well.

seriously though you must see this classic movie, but only on a night when you are in the mood for a tearjerker because it really is.

that i am a fat man named big earl :hmm:

:roflmao:

You've got a great sense of humor.

Hilarious.

For me-

People don't know/ don't think I'm as broke as I am.

:hmm:

Maybe I'm not, maybe I am, but I am NOT what appears to be going on.

Credit simply means you own nothing, and can BUY EVEN MORE.

People think I'm willing to murder gay men. This is not true. I just HATE them.

People think I'm a nice person. I really am, when I want to be.

Other than that, maybe it should be, WHAT is the BGOL perception of you, that is not true.

Not into classics, but I will rent it. I have some BB coupons I need to use.

I have the 1959 version of this movie. It is one of my favorites. The ending is so sad when she finds out about her mother. I hate that scene where her boyfriend beats her and when she was embarrassed when her mother brought her umbrella to the school. This movie is definitely a classic.

All of my favorite movies were made between 1955 and 1965. I love all of the Ross Hunter movies. One of my all time favorite movies is called Backstreet. I think it has been remade three times. The last version stars Susan Hayward and John Gavin and was made in 1959.

Most people tell me I look very innocent and appear quiet and "snotty." lol

I'm not the loudest person, but I'm definitely not quiet...and, the innocent thing...

If only they knew...

That doesn't sound like a misconception.

Ability to pull a jigantic effort to make magical things happen in the stretch, caused by investment beforehand, communication and personalization, goal orientation, reward, pays off in the end.

Folks I deal with, there is no free pass, its kinda easy tho, lol...:D

People tend to think I'm a lot younger than I am:D
Women tend to think I'm very innocent:cool: (this is GOOD)
People think I will do no wrong which is why when I do something wrong they just over look it

Biggest misconceptions?

That I don't care because I'm laid back.

That I'm standoffish or antisocial because I have to warm up to you first.

That I'm white when they see my last name or hear my voice over the phone in business situations.

. . . and I hate the word mulatto.
I feel ya on that one. I'm from the deep south and had never been called anything other than Black by us and the occasional, well, . . . by them until I spent two years in the State of Maine. There I learned the new word, and more imporatantly the meaning of the word, mulatto. I had to explain that though my famly is a rainbow and one shade tends to be predominant, we're all very black and all very fuking proud of it.
