my last external was one of these, (i also have the WD passport edition) so i can vouch for it. Durable, and so quiet you can't even tell that its on lol.....this here is the bizness :yes:
 
shit, i bought this exact one from dell about 2 months ago for about 89 bucks.....steadily dropping in price....

shit is great....only drawback is that is uses the mini USB cable......

correction....it uses a micro USB cable for the end that goes to the device

its not a real problem....its just that I have to keep the cable that came with it handy at all times because few devices uses a micro USB cable.

I have the older model WD portable drive and it uses a mini usb cable

all my small USB mp3 players have mini USB....my blackberry and the newest WD HD I have use micro usb

reading the reviews for this one on Newegg. 71% gave it a 5, but a disturbing 13% gave it a ONE and called it a "piece of junk". There were almost no 2 or 3 ratings. Most folks gave it a 5, but as one reivewer says:

"Randomly died on me after 5 months. Spins up and shuts off, no longer recognized by my computer or others. A little internet research indicates that this has happened to a number of people - most of the reviews are short term! Watch out!"

Just got mine today, and it's mini, not micro.

Micro would've been cool with me since it's sturdier.

it depends on which model you have.....

the one on the left is the 1TB with micro
the one on the right is the 250 with a mini....

i really hope you all didnt buy the first version of the one on the left...it had horrible reviews and a high failure rate...i waited for this one which is the second version.
