I see what you're saying, I get it; however I think people are backed into corner for a non-choice. There is the illusion of choice; however the powers-that-be corral the public into a bin that only offers submission.
On that note, I remember after 9/11, I knew the Patriot Act was going to be a bludgeon on democracy and free speech by creating more of the surveillance state that we're now in. Hell, it wasn't good before 9/11, but then the powers-that-be ramped it up on steroids. This slow encroachment on what's left of our rights is the further dampening any form of democracy or as the great Maya Angelou says "these yet to be United States."
