Prison will break an already troubled man even more. If you're living in a situation where it is violent, and adapting means you must become a monster to survive in a building full other monsters...a never ending cycle of violence is created. A dude with no violent crimes under his belt, and gets busted selling weed...they should be sent to a prison like this.

If you leqalized or decriminalized most drugs - the prison population would drop instantly. But there are too many private forces that make hundreds of millions on prisons that eliminatiing crimes would cost them money - its bad enough people arent killing each other and committing crimes at the level they once did, so the powers that be just keep classifying more drugs as illegal so that more people can be arrested -

Back in the 80's drugs was virtually leagal in NYC... You could go to any corner and there was at least two spots where you could cop what ever you want..
In Harlem they had lines going around corners for drugs, Alphabet City was known for exotic drugs all over the world... Back then the city took a if you chill with your shit we wont fuck with you too much..
But then folks started getting greedy, cops got greedy, dealers got greedy, crack drop then the dope heads got crazy greedy...
Everybody was fucking up and crime went soaring up to record heights back then it seemed like every other week a homie was shot dead.. There was stick up kids all over, everyone wanted to be a dealer and there was too much comp, causing crews to go against crews block vs block...
Then around 89 shit started really getting wild, then the city started shutting down everything , cracking down on the mob, hitting up the columbians, the haitians and started deporting folks..
I wonder how things would have been if folks did get buck wild and crazy...
Look we need to get to the kids before they start picking up the gun and the drugs because once you get to that point, Im sorry to say, you change and once you change, it gets much harder for them to start over and do the right thing..
I had two crews growing up, one was strait thugs and killers and my other crew were the sucka crew, strait nerds you know the type that was into comics and shit like that..
Most of my thug crew turned hard around 16 and choose to live that life and loved it. My sucka crew was about that life also, but they took life more easy..
Now that we are grown, 80% of my thug life crew are either dead or in jail, most of them were on drugs, funny thing, the ones the survived did good, I think they were very smart staying alive and not getting caught up in shit under those circumstances..
All of my sucka crew folks are alive and none of them got arrested.. The real solution in my opinion, is to find a way to stop stigmatizing nerds, and try to encourage more kids to be positive and not just followers..
About time they get to the level of going to jail, most of the time it is already too late..
