Man that's the saddest part, that these folks just can't stop using drugs or don't want to. I remember back when they we about to start building National's Park & I was at the event for perspective vendors & they also had a jobs section. I was talking to the folks from two of the large construction companies that were doing the bulk of the work & dude said just sit back & watch what happens as the different job talks start. Man those Hispanic & white dudes were there early and ready, a sprinkle of black dudes were there also but the bulk showed up late and looking like they just rolled out of bed smelling like weed. The companies had a mandate that they had to hire a certain % of minority (black) candidates who met the requirements in order to get certain tax subsidies. But dude said they wouldn't be able to meet the hiring # requirements & had a built in out so they could still get the breaks. If applying candidates flunked the drugs test & also basic skills test.
Yeah colleges are getting bad in terms of the numbers & ratio's.
That clip just showed how stupid he is. The folks in the court room was like shit. That one person was stuttering like I'm in so much disbelief I have no further questions.
and how much is that tuition at Howard? I'd advise any young man to learn a trade etc over getting some useless degree at Howard. If your degree isn't in STEM you're wasting time.

this has been known since 2013.So you'd advise someone to pay 50k plus for an education to get a Liberal Arts degree where future salary will be low? I know girls who went to University of Texas bragging back in the day to end up Pre K Teachers. What a waste of time and money.
Because that is where the job growth is. STEM degrees pay well.
Yes and so do other careers. I'm in IT and so are my peoples, my kids probably will be too.

STEM is not the only way to make it and I wish people would stop telling young black individuals that. Let them grow and contribute in fields they will accel at.
40k a year, and that is why my daughter is in STEM...she just got an intern with Salesforce and they flying her out to San Fran with a 9k housing allowance for June and July, 30 an hour plus meals. Not a bad deal for an internship, but college done right can be a gateway to unlimited opportunities.
Trade school is definitely undervalued. Plumbers, electricians, and other trade occupations are well into the 6 figures. the reason high schools don't push it is because they want to promote their college acceptance rates. At the school board meeting I often said that the school should be training people to have a lucrative career right out the gate from high school. BOCES has excellent programs but unfortunately it is looked at the place kids who aren't smart go to...and that is not the case.
Yeah I got a membership because it's a black own business to be honest...LOL You can use the membership at other spots they have across the country...I rarely go though, but they do have some good events and the food is good as shit..
Right. If you look at the average accountant vs IT salary it's about even, now the IT top end is higher but that's a small % of the jobs. I have a degree in Finance along with certs in Sales Force and a few other things. My degree and background have also allowed me more job opportunities than some of my boys in IT who have certain certs & would have to get other certs to move. Accounting & Finance will never change..lol
This is the key here. I am a big advocate for STEM ( actually it should be STEAM as an educator told me recently). I think we have been doing with the 100 exposing these kids to different STEAM activities, it definitely has raised their curiosity to go further in those fields. Plus my homeboy who is a teacher in PG County (like 99% minority students) has already told me after like the 3rd grade kids should be focused on STEM because the truth of the matter that's where the future jobs.
I think for me, I would advocate kids to get something pass high school. Yes, college is not for everyone but thinking you are going to make it out here with just a high school degree is just WRONG...I know too many people struggling with a high school diploma and it's not the way to go...
I work in healthcare so I always let kids know this is one of the most recession proof industries you can get into and there are career options if you attend community college, college, or graduate school...Most people think healthcare is centered around the clinical side when there are so many options (business of running organizations, technology, public health, and etc.) it's endless...

I don't think that is the case, but BOCES does have that stigma, and schools allow it, although many come out of BOCES doing better than college grads.
