Just wanted to add two more cents...

I hate to sound like an old geezer because I am not... but I think this is going to be the norm in the future. These youngin's don't seem to have the sense of ownership like we do. It is already reported that milennials are not buying homes and cars and such. They are OK with renting and Uber. So I think them not owning a car will be acceptable for them

eh, who knows, (shrug shoulders)
that's an affordability issue not about a desire to own. You're way out sync with the reality of the situation if you think people don't WANT to own homes. rent is like 5 times higher than a mortgage with no equity return.

the options would still be there just turned off and on resale they could get even more out of an older vehicle (that they had potentially stopped profiting from) if and when the new owners cut those services on after purchase... fucking insidious

Well, GM not going to do it. That I know for sure..

Tesla started this shit...it is fuckery and nothing is going to stop it...nothing ever stops corporate greed in this society...but the minimum wage increase gets stopped with a quickness...somebody on BGOL posted something saying we been arguing about $15/hr for so long that the real minimum living wage is now $24 and we still aint got $15

Sidenote: As these cars start getting more connected online look for the hacking to get real serious...who gonna pay for that?...bet you it won't be the car companies

These car companies are following Tesla's blueprint. Ice cars are getting more reliable & with the big shift to car makers shifting to EV's, they know that there will be less service needed on them. They have to make up that money from somewhere.

Is the repo free cause they can come get this motherfucker anytime they want since they want to charge for shit that should come with the car.

I'll get me an old school with roll down windows.....

Fuck that shit. Man I've had heated seats and steering wheel on my last two cars.

I don't really use the seats, but I use the steering wheel all winter

If you could see a monthly fee for that, you stupid as fuck nigga.

I could see the monthly fee for remotely locking and unlocking your car. Having to go through the app, the way software services are setup today, you just don't out an buy a software suites. Factor in that the car needs to be on a some kind of cell service, don't know if that is YOUR cell plan or if they have their own cell connection. It makes sense...that said I gotta pay monthly for heated seats and advanced HARDWARE features?!?!? Fcuk outta here!!!! I HOPE nobody buys that shyt and the cost of maintaining it is more than the people paying!!! This is like paying a monthly fee for cup holders and air bags!

Niggas need to start burning down the houses of the people that come up with these ideas. Drag them out in the street and shoot them and their entire family. Fuck this bullshit.

...how am I stupid??? Unlocking your car via smartphone, where your car will need a constant "connection" that may or may not be provided by you... you do realize OnStar had this same service and CHARGED you for it, right?!?!

Where is OnStar now?

Google Maps is here now. Why we talking about what used to be in 2022?

This is not a scam.

These fees are nothing new. Before google maps folks paid a monthly fee for their GPS. Some still pay for Sirius XM. That $5/month app start fee is great for folks who buy a car to rent it out.

The only problem is that a lot of these services get pushed on folks who don't need them, but again, dealerships have been doing this for years. So does a television every time you watch a commercial.

So you gonna be driving in the dead of winter and the heat cut off cause the heat bill not paid? Lol.
It's not enough to pay for the car, they wanna change you to use it. GTFOH.

Lmaoooo I told nigs in other threads that subscription base services was the new hustle by big bizz..they want that long term consistent money..now cars doing it for reg services lol smh
Naw it is the same price. You can get upgrades cheaper by just paying for them up front.

Many will opt for the subscription because it appears cheaper but will end up paying more

Onstar has been around for years. I have it on all my cars plus SiriusXM

They taking advantage of a fucked up system. Like TallBlack and others say, subscriptions will be the order of the day and nobody will actually own shit.

Damn, these mutha fuckas have no shame. On top of paying for the the car outright, you pay utility bills on it monthly.

I can guarantee they will still charge you extra on the car price to enable the luxury packages you will pay for monthly. smh.

Shit won't fly. A VAaaS (vehicle amenities as a service) would be a deal breaker for any future car purchase.

Although they're already trying this bullshit via certain apps (eg remote start and security notifications).

This is very helpful for those who do Turo. That may be their main target market.
what percentage of car owners do turo?

No.

Yeah man.

That's exactly the same as paying for high beams and seat heating.

Same shit.

The point isn't that monthly charges exist. It is that they are now goddamn ridiculous..
It should be accepted like the tax on tea = Boston Tea Party.

Because some posters are acting as if these monthly subscriptions are something brand new when they've existed in one form or another for at least the last 15 to 20 years.

Welp guess ima keep my 2017 Dodge Scatpack forever! My car comes with everything and I’ll be damned if you strip everything away and I gotta pay 12 things separately a month FOH

Do you have the Uconnect app on your phone for remote start and car locator? Dodge charges like $15-19 for that feature
