If he was making decent movies like Soul Food, Love and Basketball, or even Brown Sugar i would support, but his sh*t is garbage.

I take offense because the images we put out of our culture can be interpreted differently once it hits the media. All grandmothers aren't like that. It's like hip hop videos with hyperactive sexual black women doesn't represent all black women. We ,as a people, have to be very careful with the images we put out because not only do we believe them but whites do to. I blame stereotypes and negative images on the fact that we lack vision as a people.

Also, there's no such thing as balance when it comes to good and bad, negative and positive. The negative will always be remembered-always. That's just our human genetic makeup.
whatever you do, other people will find a way to interpret in negatively. The important thing is what his actual intent was. For some reason i don't think his intent was to "coon it up" when he played Madea.

no offense but you seem like the type who would be scared to eat watermelon in public cause of what white people might think of it.

This is what's up with Tyler Perry. My best friend is one of the writers he just fired. Dude is making history but he's doing some it at the expense of his own people. Check it out:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 4, 2008

WGA Creators, Showrunners, and Executive Producers
Submit an Open Letter to the Producers of Tyler Perry's House of Payne

This season, scripted
television programming will consist of about 150 shows employing 1,200 writers.

Of that universe, 149
shows and 1,193 writers will produce shows covered by the Writers Guild’s
Minimum Basic Agreement. The MBA guarantees minimum compensation, residuals,
health coverage, and pension in addition to other benefits.

The big exception? Tyler Perry's House of
Payne and the seven writers who, collectively, played a key role in
producing over 100 episodes of one of television's most successful sitcoms.

Right now, these seven writers are in a struggle with you, the producer of
House of Payne, to extend Guild coverage to the show. This past Monday, after
months of negotiations with the Guild, four of the writers were abruptly and
illegally fired because of their efforts to secure the same minimums and
benefits as their peers.

We all know that producing television is a tough and uncertain business. But
some things are simply not acceptable.

We have a simple ask – reinstate the writers and make a fair deal with
WGA.

Respectfully,

who cares if his movies suck!!!

do you all know what a studio is? others, especially black folks who wouldn't get a pass
in hollywood can come there and make movies.

sometimes folks get so tunnel visioned that their mind becomes stunted.

CO-SIGN!!!

why ATL and not HOLYWOOD?

well you know how hollywood got made? in the early days of the movies the studio were in the tristate area. the execs were vey strict with their rules which lead to other film makers to bounce on the west coast in cali to where we now call hollywood orginally hollywoodland

Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys
$35,190,864 4 Weeks 933 theaters

Spike lee's Miracle at St. Anna
$6,329,692 2 1185 theaters

Tyler has his own production company...

Spike has his...Knicks court side seats.:D

STORM - You on it fam. I know of all people, you would know what this means. Liking his tv show and his films dont have shit to do with opening a studio. This is where BET fucked up. To have an 30 acres of in house prouction, stages, back lots... shit's getting real now.

It's his venue. Any number of films will come a calling for a studio right there in ATL. Shit, IF he treats his writers to fair WGA contract wages - I'll do a feature there.

If he fucks his writers... it won't last. I dunno. We shall see.
