TV: Y the Last Man, no longer going to series @FX UPDATE: CANCELLED ALREADY!

Wtf
This pisses me off. If they ain't gonna do it right then I guess leave it alone but I bet this is because of how much of a failure Preacher was. Damn...legit blown. Then again how easy is it to transfer BKV to a diff medium? Transmetropolitan, Y, Saga all would be hard AF to pull off

no the series is still a go. Fox is looking for new show runners.

Shortly before FX was set to begin production on Y, the long-awaited live-action adaptation of the critically acclaimed comic series Y: The Last Man, showrunners Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal announced they were departing the project.

“Sad news for fans of Y: The Last Man today. FX has decided not to move forward with our series in its current form,” Croal wrote in a statement signed by her and Green. After thanking the writers, producers, and cast members involved in the show, Croal’s statement continued, “We hoped to reward their talent and their trust not just with success but with a show that had something to say, in a time when things must be said. As Y fans ourselves, we hope the future allows just that.”

Some fans of the property took this unexpected tweet as an indication that FX had canceled Y, but the statement’s wording was slightly misleading. FX has confirmed to EW that the network is moving forward with Y, but that Green and Croal were moving on “due to creative differences with the network.” The search for a new showrunner is now underway.

Originally created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra in the early 2000s, Y: The Last Man told the story of an apocalyptic plague that wipes out every mammal with a Y chromosome. Well, almosteveryone — somehow, an unassuming wannabe escape artist named Yorick Brown becomes the last man on Earth. His monkey Ampersand is the only other surviving male mammal.

Back in February, FX released a first photo featuring Barry Keoghan as Yorick, wandering corpse-filled streets with a hoodie-and-gas-mask outfit that readers will surely remember from the comic. Diane Lane is set to star as Yorick’s politician mother, Senator Jennifer Brown (in the original comics, Jennifer is the highest-ranking U.S. politician left alive after the male pandemic). Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield, Marin Ireland, and Amber Tamblyn are also in the cast.

The new development is merely the latest obstacle in Y‘s years-long journey to the screen. A decade ago, Shia LaBeouf was attached to star in a film version.

Y is set to debut in 2020.

Eh.. I almost finished the comics.. Got no interest in a series. It's better shit out there to adapt than this.

Thought it was just me. Eventually skipped to the end since it was losing me and the end was too weird to care.

Academy Award nominee Diane Lane (Unfaithful) has signed on to star in FX’s highly anticipated pilot Y, based on the acclaimed DC comic book series Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

Y tells the story of a dystopian future in which all male mammals have been wiped out by a cataclysmic event — all except for one remaining man, Yorick (Dunkirk‘s Barry Keoghan).

Lane, 53, will play Sen. Jennifer Brown, a politician and mother to Yorick and his sister Hero (Roadies’ Imogen Poots).

Michael Green (American Gods) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage) will serve as showrunners while the American Crime Story team of Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will executive produce. Vaughan will be an EP on the potential series.

Lane will also be featured in the sixth and final season of House of Cardsdebuting this fall on Netflix.

..and Preacher's next season will be its last..

Preacher
Legion
American Gods
The Strain

all shows based comics/books that had alot of hype/spark when started but fir numerous reasons failed to hit the mark. And that's not counting the shit show of the Netflix shows.

everything based on IP cant be Game of Thrones or to a lesser degree the walking dead

I would hate for Y to be DOA cause if disconnect between the creatives and the bean counters

The Y: The Last Man TV series has hit yet another roadblock, and at this point, it might be a good idea to give up on the entire idea. FX has been trying to get the series off the ground for years, and things seemed to be moving forward finally, with Dunkirk actor Barry Keoghan in the lead. But now that’s all changed – Keoghan is out, and the lead character will be recast.

Collider is reporting that Barry Keoghan is no longer set to lead the Y: The Last Man TV series. Keoghan was originally set to play Yorick Brown, the last male left on a planet where an event simultaneously kills-off all living mammals with a Y chromosome – including embryos and sperm. Collider doesn’t list a reason as to why Keoghan is no longer involved, but the bottom line is that the show now needs a new lead.

Other cast members include Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, Amber Tamblyn, and Timothy Hutton, and they’re all reportedly still on board. FX has been developing a show based on Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s comic book series since at least 2015. The project kicked around a bit, with Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal set as co-showrunners.

But by April of last year, Green and Croal exited the project, with Eliza Clark taking over showrunner duties in summer of 2019. Principal photography for the series started back in 2018, so FX has been actively working on this thing for some time – but now the status of the show is up in the air as they search for their new Yorick.

Y: The Last Man was published from 2002 through 2008 by Vertigo, and has amassed a huge following, and Hollywood has been attempting to adapt the comic in some form for years. Before it ended up on TV, D.J. Caruso was going to direct a film adaptation starring Shia LaBeouf, but it never happened, reportedly because studio Lionsgate wanted a single standalone film but Caruso wanted a three-film series.

The TV series, which is using the title Y, was originally set to debut this year, but now it’s unclear if that’s still going to happen

First 'Y: The Last Man' Teaser Shows the Dangers of Gender Inequality
BY MARCO VITO ODDOPUBLISHED 14 HOURS AGO
It's a man's world... until it isn't.

FX has released the first teaser for Y: The Last Man, the upcoming adaptation of the acclaimed comics series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. The teaser presents the series premise — in which (almost) every male mammal on the planet suddenly dies — in a clever way that exposes the current gender inequality in our society.

The teaser paints an apocalyptic scenario in which "95% of all airline pilots," "92% of Fortune CEOs," and "85% of government officials" suddenly die. These numbers show us how the world’s transport, economy, and social management would crumble should all men (but one) suddenly disappear. This is also a clever nod to gender inequality in the present day. By exposing these numbers, the teaser wants to remind us that if women occupied the same positions as men in a balanced way, the impact of half the Earth’s population vanishing could be less destructive. As the original comic book series never shied away from social commentary, the teaser shows the TV adaptation will update the source material to incorporate more contemporary discussions.

Eliza Clark will serve as showrunner and executive producer on Y: The Last Man after original showrunners Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal parted ways with the project in 2019. Clark also wrote at least the first two episodes of the series. All ten episodes of Season 1 will be directed by women, with Louise Friedberg helming the first two episodes.

Y: The First Man Trailer Finally Reveals the Long-Awaited FX Series

After leaving patient fans waiting through years of development, Y: The Last Man is finally premiering. A new trailer reveals a fall release date for the anxiously awaited FX series.
Y: The Last Man graced our list of the most anticipated TV shows of 2021 and at long last, the series is finally arriving on September 13th. Eliza Clark will helm the series, which is adapted from the long-running science fiction comic book that’s captivated readers since 2002.
The much-delayed series has an incredible cast (including Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, and that last man himself, Barry Keoghan) and will find a home on FX, a network known for its creative and strange genre shows. However, Y: The Last Man will be exclusively streaming on FX on Hulu, as the brand’s streaming partner. (Also of note, even after leadership reshuffling during the extended period of production, the show still boasts a female leader behind the scenes in Clark.)
Y: The Last Man follows Yorick (Keoghan) and the remaining women left behind after an Event wipes out all with a Y-chromosome. Setting off with a dark secret and companionship in the form of a monkey, Y is determined to stay alive. The series will dive into the aftermath of the Event, and the survivors left grappling with the identities they clung to before.

Y: The Last Man premieres Monday, September 13, only on FX on Hulu. Check out the first trailer below:

New teaser tries to trick us into believing the Y: The Last Man show actually exists
Ben Schnetzer and Diane Lane are set to star in the "series," although they're conveniently absent from FX's teaser

Y: The Last ManScreenshot: YouTube

Few pop culture projects have devoted more time, energy, and resources—across more than a decade of production time—into trying to convince us that they exist than the Y: The Last Man adaptation. Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerrera’s award-winning graphic novel, about a world in which all the men save one drop dead, has deployed every trick in the book to try to get us onboard with the idea that someone might actually make a film or TV series out of it: Production announcements, high-profile castings, and even a series commitment from FX On Hulu to make a show out of the comic. It’s an amazing effort just to try to trick us into thinking this thing has been made, a feat of prestidigitation as elaborate and impressive as any of the escape tricks that protagonist Yorick Brown prides himself on performing in the book.

Now FX has launched its latest stunt in support of this “new television show,” scheduled to “debut” on “September” “13": An actual, bona fide teaser trailer for the series, which is set to star Ben Schnetzer as Yorick, and Diane Lane, Ashley Romans, Diana Bang, and Olivia Thirlby as some of the many, many women he suddenly finds himself surrounded by in the wake of the semi-apocalypse.

Not that you’d know that from the trailer, though, which maintains the illusion that the series has actually been filmed by refusing to show us even a second of footage, instead opting for a graphic presentation laying out the basic premise. (Which, again: All the men are now extremely dead.) Meanwhile, James Brown croons about it being “A Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” which, not so much, anymore. (There’s also some fun chromosome art, in case the whole “Y” thing hadn’t already leapt out at the science nerds in the audience.)

Anyway: Kudos to all the pranksters and impractical jokers involved in this one. What’s next: Some actual shots of Schnetzer walking among the corpses of the planet’s men? An actual broadcast of full episodes of the “show”? A second season renewal? We swear, the lengths these folks will go to to get a laugh.
