TV: Sinbad talks Cosby, Different World, racism, etc (Good Interview) 35 Anniversary!

It's no accident that you still can't buy A Different World except for season 1 but *insert coon reality show* is available right after the season ends.

Said the same thing about Key and Peele comedy show but because they aren't militant or gangsta they get criticized. The Cosby Show received that same type of criticism back when it was the hottest show on television.

No thats not it. Key and Peele's early stuff was bad. They had something to say but were afraid to say it and it showed. Their stuff has gotten better because they've found their voice.

Yuuuuppp... man keep preaching. Once you understand how the game is played, you will be a better player.

We live with a culture that now values Novelty over Substance.
It's most certainly in our Music.
It never was that way until the late 90s.

Sinbad spoke STRAIGHT TRUTH!!!
He came out of that time in which Black Intelligence and Quality was (finally) being produced and respected.
I'm not saying that there wasn't lowest common denominator shit back then.
But that was in the minority.

Now it's totally reversed.
And many of US have either fallen susceptible to it.
Or are (still) starving for it.

"A Different World" writer and producer Thad Mumford lit into Lisa Bonet and Debbie Allen in a recent interview with the Archive of American Television. I'm guessing he didn't have a good experience.
  • -He starts out saying Lisa Bonet was just no good and only got the show because Bill Cosby kicked her off his show.

-Says she smoked marijuana liked it was going out of style and reeked of patchouli. Knew she was coming because of you could smell her when she was coming.

-Phylicia Rashad was guest starring on the show. During a morning script reading, Lisa "at least was there," was laying her head on the table nodding off to sleep. Phylicia called Bill Cosby and said, "This child is crazy, this child is losing her mind."

-Mentions Lisa getting pregnant and joked maybe Bill did it, "Anything to get her off the show."

-Says Debbie Allen wasn't a good director.

-He and Debbie Allen were always at war for control of the show.

-Debbie Allen has the kids on the show "not speaking English," close to ebonics.

-Bill Cosby complained to him about how the kids were looking on the show, and he told her to talk to Debbie (Including the comment "The darkies look gay.") Bill went to talk to Debbie and nothing was changed. Mumford thinks Bill didn't really care because the show was Camille was the champion of a show about a black college.

-They had some good episodes, but those were the ones Debbie didn't direct. "The shows Debbie didn't do were the best ones."

-Criticized Jasmine Guy's portrayal of Whitley Gilbert saying it was like something from a sketch comedy show.

Quote:
Mumford was a producer and writer of ADW from 1987-1990. He wrote 11 episodes including 6 in the horrible first season with Lisa Bonet.

Debbie Allen directed 83 of the 122 episodes produced in seasons 2-6.

Bill Cosby Would Rather Serve 10 Years in Prison Than Show Remorse

If a convicted sex offender wants to be considered for parole, they must typically, according to legal experts, be willing to show remorse for their actions. Comedian Bill Cosby, who was convicted on three charges of felony aggravated indecent assault and classified as a “sexually violent predator” last year, says he would rather serve his full ten-year prison sentence than do so.

Cosby, 82, recently made this point explicitly clear in an interview from his prison cell with the National Newspaper Publishers Association’s BlackPressUSA.com, the first he’s given since his high-profile trial concluded over a year ago. In April 2018, a grand jury found him guilty of the three assault charges for drugging and sexually assaulting Temple University director of basketball operations Andrea Constand at his home in 2004. Then, in September 2018, the comedian was sentenced to three to ten years in prison.

“When I come up for parole, they’re not going to hear me say that I have remorse,” Cosby told the website. “I was there. I don’t care what group of people come along and talk about this when they weren’t there. They don’t know.”
This past June, Cosby filed a formal appeal arguing that his criminal conviction was flawed because the judge had considered the “strikingly dissimilar” testimonies of five of his other accusers, whom prosecutors called on to bolster Constand’s claims that Cosby is a sexual predator. (Though Cosby was only convicted for sexually assaulting Constand, more than 60 additional women have accused him of rape or sexual assault. However, the statue of limitations had expired in the majority of their cases. Cosby maintains his innocence.)

“It’s all a set-up,” Cosby told the outlet of his conviction. “That whole jury thing. They were imposters.”

If Cosby’s appeal is rejected, then that’s that; he’ll likely be serving the remaining eight years and nine months of his maximum sentence. But this possibility doesn’t appear to faze him. In the interview, Cosby said he’s been in relatively high spirits since starting his sentence, and that he even has a nickname for his jail cell: “my penthouse.”
