Im not sure what happened to the land. Pops told us to that they were share croppers and they owned the land. Just found all this out within the last few years. I have been working on my genealogy which i was able to see my family, still working on it though! If you are talking about a read a book to see if they was not calling us by our names i wont do that!

The thing is you weren't only talking about your family in your previous comment but our history generally. I can't tell you what was passed down in your family. I can say what history has recorded.
You have groups all over this country who claim to be something all evidence suggest they aren't. Look at the Melungeons. They were hurt to find out they were mostly Black. They thought they were mostly Native with some African and European mixed in. They still don't accept the results but DNA doesn't lie.
