You’re giving him too much credit. He was never strategic and barely tactical and now he has dementia. Trump isn’t the mastermind of shit and the only thing protecting him is the white power structure which is powered by the blue.
The groundwork for the so-called black community to be skeptical of the Democrats was laid by the last administration and has little to do with Trump. The only thing Trump showed the so-called black community was how full of shit the last president was that said he couldn’t help the so-called black community because “we don’t understand how government works”, “the POTUS has checks and balances”, and he was “the president of America and not black America” all while delivering for almost every single group. Now that Trump is showing what a POTUS can do, many are starting to realize that we got conned and are taking a step back and reassessing the situation.

you can’t say that people like Trump have intellect but those in the so-called black community that question Democrats don’t. That is the playbook of the pro-whites on BGOL.
First, Trump is lawless, Obama wasn't. He was a lawyer and wasn't going to do anything illegal or that wouldn't stand up in court, and even stuff that was questionable such as Daca, had sound reasoning and was well thought out.
Second the base supports the GOP no matter what they do. Obama lost support shortly after the aca was passed. Mostly white liberals wanting to teach him a lesson because the aca wasn't exactly like they wanted and because they didn't think he was moving fast enough on gay and other issues. Also black folks sitting out because they don't understand the importance of the midterms.
The GOP gerrymandered their asses off. When the scotus and gutted the voting rights bill, there were not enough dems to get a law passed to enable new protections. No dems to strengthen and tweak the aca, raise minimum wage or push through an immigration bill or all the other stuff on the liberal wish list. Laws that were supposed to take effect were able to be rolled back and stopped like the overtime law and the financial one that stated investors have to work for their clients best interest, instead of selling clients bad investment that were used to line the pockets of other investors. It's not enough to vote dems to get power for a year or two. They have to be able to roll back all the stuff the GOP breaks and also move forward on progressive agendas.
Obama had a Congress trying to block stuff that benefited their own people just to deny him the optics of a win or success. They were trying to investigate everything they could just to keep a headline going that his administration was somehow shady and corrupt.
The GOP is not wanting to hold Trump accountable. Checks and balances only work if you have someone willing to actively check. The GOP wanted to police everything Obama did, from the cost of travel to his choice of condiments. Total silence on Trump running up his travel bills. Obama was subjected to selective policing just like black folks in stop and frisk areas. You know white folks have all the guns and drugs, but the ones harassed are the black residents.
I think Obama could have done more on some issues, especially in his second term. He still didn't have the numbers in Congress, but he could have used his bully pulpit better.
The thing is, when he tried to be tough, he wasn't attacked just by the GOP, but by dems also. Mitch McConnell denying him a scotus pick was another event that energized white supremacists and served as a symbol of a win over a black man.
The situation Obama was in is not at all like what we have with Trump. We can't just win the presidency, we need large majorities in both houses for more than 4 years. Right now we have folks wanting to cede power without a fight. Who needs voter surpression when folks are talking themselves and their neighbors out of voting?
