CNOA...keep an eye, CAGC as well

I learned a lesson today, never ever buy pre/after market. I got 200 shares of Visa, at $83.65, thinking it would shoot up cause of the profit taking on Friday. That thing went as low as $78.85 or something. Fuck. Oh well, I have no problem being patient in Visa.

So thats two lessons ive learned so far, no pre/after market, and no market orders, only limit/stop. The experience is growing.....

Calm down, you should not worry about visa at your price if you going long on it. I bought more @ 82 today and I watched it drop down to 79 real time. I had to laugh at my self. I have been buying gradually since it was @57.00:yes:

Which broker are you using?

Anyone else get in on IPI? Im in at $45.90. Not sure when to pull out.

Pull out!!That stock is highly overpriced and driven purely by speculation.

P/E - 124.69 - :smh: Need more proof of this stock being speculation driven.
EPS - .40
Book Value Per Share - .139

If you pull out now you'll make some money or lose less before reality sets in.

Check out this book before you start investing and taking advice from people.

Funny you mention that, because I got out this morning. Got out at a good price too. I sensed that one was going downhill, and the low volume lately scared me.

We have all learned those types of lessons. The key is not to make the same mistakes over and over.

And if you find a way not to do that.....let me know.

no one is looking at the fact that PAL earned .15c in 1Q08, when the little street coverage was looking for .03-.06, they essentially killed #'s, though there were little coverage. in Q208 they will see unhedges sell prices on PD at 420-440/oz, this co is well poised, I expect South Africa to help PD prices in the coming months,,,if you're long relax...it's coming

Im long. Hanging in there with AGU also. Trying not to get greedy with TITN. No stoploss set dont want to get taken out.

hang in there on AGU, the AGs are basing, and i do think in time the upward momentum will resume, You look at POT and see a stock that's $20 off all time highs, w/ great forward guidance, they will come back in favor. Right now the street is enamoured by RIMM & APPL, these two have been on fire. I think over the next few weeks AAPL will hit new 52 week highs above 200. The 3G release & the new market for unlocked phones will bolster iPhone, plus you just never know what Jobs & company will do next.

PAL, did great today - hopefully it can regain what it lost & be back in the 7s-8s

newbie here. thought i'd ask for advice in this thread here. IS it possible to make any type of investment using a small amount of cash that could make you a significant amount of money within 10 years or so? I'd like to do someting but i aint comfortable with puttin up stax of cash. I'd start with 500 bux. So lets here it.. Any suggestions on what i could do with 500 bux? KEep in mind that i have no idea on how any type of investments work other than the concept of buying stocks low, knowing when to stay on or jump off.. Sorta like a fantasy baseball type concept right? suggestions please..if i am hijacking this thread you are welcome to shoot me a PM

This thread is loaded with information. What brokerages are preferred, books to read, how to use stops, shorting, reading charts, not getting greedy, real life issues, how to pick hot sectors, tolerance for loss..etc. I remember one man saying he printed the entire thread so he could read it on the train.

Looks to me like you don't have any tolerance for losing some money. You basically need money to make money. It's highly unlikely that you will find any stock that will get 200-300% profit without taking some hits here and there. It's really all part of the game and you'll eventually learn from your mistakes.

I'd suggest looking up the earlier pages in this thread and reading/listening to "Big Picture Investing", then setting up a mock portfolio for about a month or two and seeing how your portfolio performs. If you jump in right now with your $500 without fully understanding how this 'game' works, then you'll more than likely end up losing more than you can afford.

I'm no expert myself because I'm still learning. I've made some gains and I've also taking a few hits. Good luck.

Great call on PAL Popoz but I missed out on the 18% opportunity. I'm still a bit tentative on PAL at least until Sept/Oct when it starts to get cold.

Think you missed the fact that South Africa's winter is not our winter, they will be going into winter in June I do believe & power will become a major concern. They have been load shedding for a long time but the whole infrastructure could reach critical mass soon. I'm long PAL & have the patience to buy low & wait...same with CNOA...a frenzy will enter that stock

An investement can be any dollar amount, & for any time frame, the whole concept is to grow something from "small" to bigger, small being relative to whomever. With 500.oo you can buy 4 shares of SU, and in a month you will have 8 shares as it splits 2 for 1. Also you could buy some PBR(PetroBras) at 65.00 or so each. You have to first start by getting an account opened, until then not only are you not in the game, you're not even alllowed on the field...

Didn't realize that about South Africa's winter. I'll definitely have to make my move real soon on PAL

Speak on it! I just put in a buy order for 500 shares of CNOA. Its day low was $1. Hopefully I'll get it at a buck of not at $1.05.

I'm about to get in cnoa as well, and coinz is doing SO well today! NOT lol but i would expect it to recover by next week it usually does.

I'm trying to add you guys to the google groups as you request I'm thinking about trying to make some watchlist for each of the memebers ust to let us all know what you are looking into, then let you guys put up your analysis of the sectors you like Its a pin to dig back through 30ish pages to find that stock someone called to move up with oil etc lol so ill be looking to streamline that and any ideas would be appreciated.

I am going to suggest one of the safest way to make your first $100. Take the $500 and open an optionsxpress account. They are running a promo where they give you and the person who refers you $100 bonus for signing up and depositing $500 in the account by may 31st. I posted a link on the networking board about it. http://www.bgol.us/board/showthread.php?t=261656

Open the account there and there is a virtual account that comes with the account where you can practice trading and you can read and attend their training sessions they run every week (almost daily on strategies)

Najarian on CNBC said he was playing ETFC because they were building their customer base again. I am a bit sad that they pulled ETFC up so much. I was hoping for it to fall be low 3.50 again to get back in but seems they are not letting it. I will wait for it again. I have to start exercising patience now and not force trades. Them forced trades and not exiting is how blow up accounts.

Giant Interactive Group Inc. Schedules 2008 First Quarter Earnings Release on Thursday, May 15, 2008
8:08a ET May 5, 2008 (PR NewsWire)

Giant Interactive Group Inc. (NYSE: GA) ("Giant" or the "Company"), one of China's leading online game developers and operators, announced today that it will release unaudited financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2008 after the US market closes on Thursday, May 15, 2008.

--------------------------

I had bought some shares in them at 19 when the IPOed. They then fell all the way down below 10. I wish I had added more because the went back up to 17+ and now back down to 15+. They had some prelim numbers where their concurrent users were setting records. I believe they should post good numbers with should give them a couple point jump. I am thinking tomorrow of just grabbing a few contracts. All depends on the price of course.

I learned a lesson today, never ever buy pre/after market. I got 200 shares of Visa, at $83.65, thinking it would shoot up cause of the profit taking on Friday. That thing went as low as $78.85 or something. Fuck. Oh well, I have no problem being patient in Visa.

I'm a crusty old vet who doesn't see why cats are phucking with V nowadays. The way I look at stocks is either we see shallow recession or deep recession. Market's view is for shallow, so I'd rather own a AXP in that space b/c it's been beaten down so much at these levels. Economy will recover, and that franchise is levered to increasing wealth in BRIC and other emerging markets.

My holding period is usually 3~5 years for core position though. In my view, AXP is one of those companies that just habitually gets it and will "win" in the long run.

Great advice. I would also say that I'm telling all my buddies the following: #1: pay off all cc balances, full stop. #2: open a brokerage account and direct deposit at least $200~300 per paycheck. Cats will not miss the money.

As for Options Express, never trade with them, but you can open up an account with any amount of money and view their free commodity and market news/research on a daily basis. I got like only $600 there, and get way more than that in research reports every year there.

Which broker are you using?

Didn't ask me, but I gotta plug Interactive Brokers (aka "IB"). Another company that just "gets it", in there space. Own the stock. Love the technology and the open-endedness of it. No hand holding. Shitty customer service. But still my best broker ever in instant gratification.

Oh yeah ETFC is one of my faves. Props to Trip for recommending that one I was able to get in at $2.70. You are correct E*trade was always easy money in those low 3's. Will it hit $3.50 before 5??? Damn tough one....

cnoa.ob looks oversold and hit 1.00 hasnt been that low since MArch so im in on that today for 200 shares, I hope its a better call than when i said the market would do well based on oil prices dropping (for a day!) and the market was still DOWN majorly hehe

welcome to the chain outlaw but V has given some of us 40% how can you not phuck with that?

Do to unfortunate catastrophic events China has frozen all food prices until...not lowered...not eased...frozen at already inflated prices. How will this fair for rice stocks?
