Copped at 25k, mileage now 84k. I'm aware owners manual recommends at certain mileage. Should I follow the manual?

research on how to do it
become very familiar enough that you can do it
then if you pay someone to do it
you will know if they are fucking up
also if you have an existing warranty on the vehicle
pay them to do it so that they are liable down the road
regular maint, is always better if done early

But is it necessary?

Yes. All maintenance is necessary on a car it's a matter of the timing of wind it needs to happen. If your manual is saying flush it at 100,000 miles then don't do it yet. If it's saying do it at 75K then get it done.

If you go the DIY route:
Find the ATF specific for your vehicle (Honda spec) and buy enough.
Check to see if the filter needs service. If it is internal, you might not have to worry.
You actually don't need to flush but do a multiple drain and fill. Mark your drain pan so you know what comes out. Put the EXACT amount back in then drive around for about 20 min on a good stretch of road. Mind you a large amount is stuck in the torque converter so you never get it all completely out. Repeat until fluid is bright red and not dark and dirty. Check the levels again! It is time consuming but doable.

If you have a CVT tranx you might want to get it serviced by a pro...they are a bit sensitive compared to the old tranx.

Oh yeah...Trans service usually falls between 60k on most cars. According to Lexus they recommend a check at 60k. If it is dark or you experience slipping or hard shifting is usually when you need to service.

If you wait too long to do it it can actually fuck your transmission up if you change the oil

When I bou
pepboys fucked me over so bad one time that i called the BBB and made them give me a refund
I dropped off my car at pepboys on buford hwy the day before I was supposed to move into my first house. They lost my keys and I didn't get them back until a day later. Spent half the moving day waiting for them with my movers waiting for me. They later told me someone quit and left with them. Talk about pissssed off.

I used to only used them for oil changes. The one in Riverdale HWY 85 by Wal-Mart...those sheisty mufuckas

I'd suggest you get it done by a very experience Lexus mechanic if not at the dealer. Taking it to CarX, Meineke, PepBoys, etc. would be a mistake in my opinion.
All he has to do is go to any Lexus dealer when the roach coach comes.... the lunch truck..... chat up the mechanics that come to it and ask if any do side work... there's always one or more trying to get that extra cheese
sidebar: be careful that there aren't any service managers near them, or they won't talk to you

This right here above ^^^

OP.....to be honest all fluids need to be changed at some point
I usually change my transmission fluid for all my cars at around every 50,000 miles
