To my peeps in the Southeast U.S.

What does central NC have to look forward to?

Timing is key. It looks like the line will start to move through the Piedmont area between 8 am and 11 am. Once the daytime heating kicks in, the storms could become more robust, but nowhere near like we are seeing in Mississippi and Alabama.

Damaging winds are the primary threat with isolate tornadoes possible. The environment is lacking to sustain supercells, but stay alert regardless.

Mississippi had tornadic activity & supercells at the same time. That's crazy!

Has the Trump cuts to the NOAA caused issues in tracking these storms

So far, operations are still normal.

NWS is doing their job as usual, but we don’t know if the understaffing in forecasting will effects alerts. Doesn’t seem like it.

Research progress is the biggest concern. While Europe and Japan are developing next generation state-of-the-art numerical modeling systems, these cuts to NOAA could set us back on the great progress we’ve made in the last 5 years.

When I attended the last weather conference, I saw what Europe was doing and it’s amazing, especially with AI. We are definitely behind on the science. However, we aren’t far behind. But fucking with our research and funding will cause a setback.

And quiet as kept, most NOAA scientists are project managers/supervisors. And many are ancient white men that need to retire. The people who do the dirty work in research and development are contract workers in the private sector (like myself).

This is between 10 am and 1 pm

Nailed the timing
