HHH has always been jealous of him and just because he's "in charge" now doesn't change that. Rock does not work for him because Rock is a megastar so whenever he shows up you best believe he still runs shit. Rock will always be the Rock no matter what and if it wasn't for him their Wrestlemania payday would've been extremely low this year.

Mania sells itself. It does a million buys every year, with or without The Rock. He helped sell it this year but they still would have done that same sellout and close to that same buyrate.
When Dwayne steps onto WWE television, he's working for HHH just because Hunter is a major office player (Vince is still in charge but Mr. Hs is moving up). Hunter more than anyone else probably wished that Rock would blow up in Hollywood so he could have the WWF to himself.

Punk's not selling out buildings because if he were they wouldn't be tarping damn near half the arena. I know you love Punk but let's not go overboard and make it seem like he's single handedly saving pro wrestling. Finally back to HHH for a moment you don't think he hated that jab Punk took at him when he said he had a message from a real movie star and it wasn't him or the straight to dvd line as well? Steve Dwayne and Terry will always be known as Stone Cold The Rock and Hulk Hogan, so they will always be one of the boys no matter how much smarks try and say different.

Did they have the arena tarped off for Raw or something? What about MitB? SummerSlam? Punk hasn't single handedly saved wrestling but he gave the WWE a major shot in the arm and he and Cena have had the best feud WWE has seen in a long time. Punk deserved, and I hope he got, a major raise. First he carries Orton to the first interesting feud he's had in years and a good match at Mania and then he brings the absolute best out of Cena in the ring and on the mic. The fact that the buyrates for the Punk-Cena matches are way up is another reason.
No, I don't think Hunter cared about that jab. Why should he? Punk talks about his wife on tv so a jab about his barely existent movie career is supposed to upset him? HHH is a pure wrestler, to the point where people don't call him "Paul" but "Hunter". They're not like the rest of us. They're a unique bunch.
Dwayne's not a wrestler anymore, he's a movie star. He's not Austin or Hogan, who stayed in the business while they did other things. He walked completely away and came back. He's very much like Floyd Mayweather to me: he grew up in the business so he's seen the negatives up close so he doesn't love it like a Cena or HHH, who dreamed of being pro wrestlers. That's not a knock at all. I think that's the right mentality for a business like pro sports/pro wrestling.

MATT HARDY HOSPITALIZED
by Mike Johnson @ 4:13 PM on 8/24/2011

The word making the rounds is that Matt Hardy was taken to a local hospital earlier today in North Carolina for a "medical issue". PWInsider.com has confirmed he is indeed hospitalized.
I have heard a lot of rumors regarding Hardy over the last 24 hours but nothing concrete so I won't speculate further. That said, given the issues of the last week, there are going to be a lot of people assuming the worst.

This guy is spiralling bad. I hope he gets it together before it's too late but him and his stupid brother seem to take turns fucking up.

Mania sold around 800k last year and that was with Taker/HBK II. They needed star power to sell this years Mania because all they had going for it was Taker/HHH and that's not enough to get a million people imo. If people call him hunter in the back it's probably because he tells them to instead of it being a pure wrestler mentality. I hate how the Rock left yet he's not considered one of them anymore, SCSA walked out on the company 2x yet he's still beloved by everyone and is still considered one of the boys. Questioning Rocks love for the business is unfounded because you don't know the level of love he has for the business. Cena loves the business because he put his brother in a boston crab when he was 8 and grew up watching it, yet Rock doesn't love it as much even though he was raised in it and there are countless stories of how he was performing moves on students(which he shouldn't be doing)taking photos with title belts and his love isn't the same?

The sad fact is if The Rock lives to be 104 and Cena has a heart attack and dies at 45 he will be more respected because he "gave his all" for the business, and Rock will be seen as someone who left and became hollywood. I respect people like Rock Jericho more because they planned on having a life after wrestling, but too many wrestlers are like Randy "The Ram" Robinson i.e Flair Hogan. Flair is one of my wrestling idols but it's sad to see him wrestling at this age when he should be retired living off millions in a nice Charlotte or Florida mansion. Last thing yes Raw is always tarped as well as Smackdown PPVs usually sell out or are papered, the true testament to Punk is can he maintain this for a whole year or is he a simple buzz that will eventually fizzle.

They call him "Hunter" because that's what wrestlers do, the same way Terry Funk calls Mick Foley "Cactus". Dude is a wrestler all the way through with the mentality to match. It's that same mentality that enables Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett to work together without killing each other and Jerry Lawler to allow Michael Cole to talk about his mother who died two days before.
I do see a debate on whether Rock helped sell Mania but we can't acknowledge that and not acknowledge Punk doing the same thing with the two ppvs he main evented.
Also, Mania still sells itself. What other event sells even 800k buys?

I'm not questioning or challenging his love for the business but putting it in proper perspective. Cena is a mark for the business, Rock is not. That's not a bad thing. They come from different perspectives so Rock can see himself doing other things (football, acting) while Cena is doing what he wants to do and anything else is gravy. I knock the dude for his wack promos and limited skill but I've come to appreciate his legit passion, not saying Rock didn't have the same thing.

I do too. I'm glad to see guys like them and Tito Santana and Randy Savage who learn how to live without wrestling and can come and go when they want to, not because they need to.

There's a horrible expose on Flair on ESPN's website, if I get a chance, I'll post the link. To see my favorite wrestler of all time sink to where he is is beyond tragic.
That said, it's not that unusual. Even guys who had plenty of money wrestled well into their 50s and even 60s. Fred Blassie, Verne Gagne, Fritz Von Erich, hell the list of guys who don't hold on is easier to type out. It's hard for formerly top guys to walk away from the cheers and the limelight.

Last thing yes Raw is always tarped as well as Smackdown PPVs usually sell out or are papered, the true testament to Punk is can he maintain this for a whole year or is he a simple buzz that will eventually fizzle.

Raw is not always tarped off, not counting areas blocked for staging. They purposely go to strong markets for tv.
It's not on Punk if he can maintain, he's shown he can have the best segment on any show, it's up to Mgmt to take advantage. If Punk had the crowd that pushed Rock and Austin, he wouldn't have to worry about being on mugs.

WWE MONEY IN THE BANK BUYRATE UP BIGTIME THANKS TO CM PUNK VS. JOHN CENA
by Mike Johnson @ 6:25 PM on 8/25/2011

The 2011 WWE Money in the Bank PPV garnered over 265,000 worldwide buys, according to WWE's latest performance indicators released to stockholders.
This buyrate would be up over 100,000 buys from the debut Money in the Bank PPV, which drew 165,00 buys worldwide.

That pretty much tells the tale that the CM Punk angle leading into the PPV and his challenge of John Cena certainly turned heads and made people part with their money. This buyrate was the company's best of the year outside of Wrestlemania and the Royal Rumble.

I know right. Ric been through the wire (much by his own hand)

Be safe down there fam. I surely miss home but I don't miss hurricane and tornado season.

Thank you. I don't live on the coast so if we get anything more than heavy rain, it would be amazing.

Ric's life is a mess and this guy couldn't get a reality show? There's money right there.

Put him & Jake The Snake Roberts together and the government might outlaw pro wrestling.

From what I'm hearing Jake's been clean and sober for a while now so maybe TNA needs to bring him...to book, not wrestle.

I don't have a problem with Sting vs Flair or Hogan but they can't be presented as main events and they shouldn't eat up a bunch of time. Use them as "special attraction" matches to draw the occassional fan who wishes for the "good ol' days" but it's Angle, AJ, Joe, and Beer Money who should be on top.

If they do Sting/Hogan for Bound for Glory, those guys better have something up their sleeves because those Philly fans will torch them, especially if they come on after RVD/Lynn II.

Let me rephrase since i don't like to speak in hyperbole, Raw is tarped a hell of alot more than it was back in the day and that's the main reason they stopped showing shots of the whole arena. I have never seen it live since whenever they come here to Dallas it's always sold out, but i've heard from plenty of people and have seen on tv when they mess up that the sections on the opposite of the camera are heavily tarped. As for Flair that is some sad shit but he's got no one to blame but himself. This dude made millions and to fuck it up that badly is inexcusable, but it also reaffirms my stance on Rock & Jericho because both of them were determined not to wind up like him. I respect Flair the wrestler but Flair the man is a fucking joke.

Every market isn't the same so I have no doubt they don't sell out every Raw like they used to but that's how the business goes. They weren't selling out during Bret, Shawn, and Diesel's era.

Yeah and it's sad. The occassion match where he puts over a young guy like he did with Jay Lethal is fine and can be fun or when he's matched up with another vet like Mick Foley, cool. But TNA gives guys like Hogan, Sting, and Flair (and Hall and Nash when they were there) too much tv time when they have some of the best workers and talkers in the business.
Ric should have really stayed with Vince. I understand why he didn't but his shit has just gotten worse.

He had a cushy 500k a year job with Vince but left because he thought he could make more else were and he ended up in more debt:smh:

Yep. Someone else would have been able to do what he attempted to do and then go back to Vince but Flair completely fucked it up.
New Japan offered him six figures to do a retirement match with Masa Chono. He turned it down "out of respect for Shawn and the Mania match". Bad business decision letting emotions fuck up his money.
ROH gave him another six figures to work with them and he bounced.
All he had to do was fulfill his contract with Highspots and they would have sued his stupid ass, costing him even more money.
He burned his bridge with Greg Price and the annual NWA Fanfest here in Charlotte, costing himself another guaranteed payday.
This nigga needs a life coach, Jesus, and Dr. Phil.

I've seen the spoilers for the Impact! shows leading into No Surrender and it looks like Bully Ray will be getting the title shot at Bound For Glory in Philly.

Don't forget Vince also loaned Flair the money to pay off the IRS and look what good that did:smh: As for Bubba Ray im not interested one bit in him having a title match, he's had his moments as "Bully Ray" but to me he's better as a tag partner.

Punk set MITB on fire...Not so fast
Concerning the preliminary Money in the Bank PPV buyrate, we inaccurately reported 276,000 buys from WWE's monthly business figures on Thursday. Although WWE's chart plots MITB at just under the 300,000 buy hashmark, the actual estimate is closer to 185,000 buys.

The reported figure of 276,000 buys includes prior period buys. Despite including prior period buys unrelated to MITB, WWE plotted this figure for the MITB PPV on their chart showing each PPV's performance over the past three years.

In the second quarter earnings call earlier this month, WWE management said MITB buys would be up 20 percent compared to last year's event. Last year's event drew 165,000 buys, which would make for 198,000 buys this year, according to WWE's statement.

The preliminary MITB buy total reported by WWE this week is through July 31, which is two weeks after the PPV aired. The preliminary estimate includes a split of 71 percent domestic and 29 percent international.

As a result, buys from international sources will likely trickle in over the next two months to bring the total closer to 200,000. WWE will report an official figure when they report third quarter earnings in November.

Punk set MITB on fire...Not so fast

That still says MitB went up 20%

MORE ON THE GREAT SIN CARA CAPER: MISTICO OUT
by Mike Johnson @ 1:58 PM on 8/26/2011

In an update from my earlier story on Sin Cara, WWE sources are indicating that the original Sin Cara (Mistico) was sent home from the Calgary Smackdown taping after meeting with WWE officials. Mistico left the building before the tapings ended.
Going forward, sources claim that Hunico will exclusively portray the Sin Cara character, which WWE wants to maintain as its been very popular among kids and in merchandise sales.

Everyone I have spoken to expected the artist formerly known as Mistico to depart WWE, but nothing has been 100% confirmed on that front.

I've questioned WWE sending veterans to FCW but now I see why. Mistico came from a completely different style and had a hard time adjusting.

NoDQ.com > TNA > Ric Flair makes legal threat to website
Posted by Corbin Nordhoff on 08/27/2011 at 11:34 AM

In response to the claim made in the recent Grantland.com article, which suggests that Ric Flair wrestles with a heart condition known as Alcoholic Cardiomyopathy, TMZ.com is reporting that Flair is threatening to take legal action.

"While the information gleaned from courthouse records may be credible, Mr. Fliehr is currently evaluating his legal options with respect to falsehoods in the story, specifically the untrue statement that he suffers from alcoholic cardiomyopathy," said a Flair representative.

"Our client understands that these allegations are part of the territory when you are not only famous, but a living legend."

A number of people sent in emails pointing out that Flair admitted in his 2004 autobiography to suffering from Alcoholic Cardiomyopathy. Flair wrote:

"Through my many years of partying, I also developed something called 'alcoholic cardiomyopathy,' a weakening of heart muscles. I first detected that there was something wrong when my heart began skipping beats. I went to a cardiologist friend who told me that when your heart pumps, it expands to a rubber band. But mine was doing it too much. Initially, I thought that steroids might be responsible, but the doctor dismissed this theory. My heart was fluttering from thirty-five years of hitting it hard.

It's the part of the price of being Ric Flair. In exchange for the glory and the good times, I acquired a heart condition, self-esteem issues, and cataracts from tanning beds—and very nearly wrecked my marriage to a great woman. But incredibly, I remained ageless in other ways. And in 2002, at nearly fifty-three years old, I was about to see if I could show a new generation of fans what they missed in the 1970s and 1980s."

Truth hurts I guess.

NoDQ.com > TNA > Spoiler: More On Jeff Hardy's TNA Return
Posted by Dave Mitchell on 08/26/2011 at 10:21 AM

The following contains spoilers for the next 2 weeks of TNA Impact Wrestling:

TNA held a double television taping on Thursday night from Huntsville, Alabama – and one of the more newsworthy happenings was the return of Jeff Hardy.

Hardy came out and cut a promo saying that The Network gave him a chance to address the fans of TNA.

Hardy apologized for his conduct at Victory Road, when he showed up “in no condition to perform” and his main event match against Sting had to be cut to less than 30 seconds. Jeff said that his personal issues “put the show in the toilet” and he knows he let everybody down.

Jeff asked everybody for one more chance – which got a huge “One More Chance” chant from the crowd.

Jeff placed the microphone down in the middle of the ring and exited to the back.

Jeff’s return to TNA Impact Wrestling will take place in 2 weeks. Next week’s show will feature the “Major Announcement” of Hardy appearing on the following week’s show.

So now Jeff is back but Matt is m.i.a ???? These two dont need to be working for the same company.

As for Bubba Ray im not interested one bit in him having a title match, he's had his moments as "Bully Ray" but to me he's better as a tag partner.

I think Ray should be a top contender for any Most Improved awards. He's a vet and a proven tag team guy but he's been killing it on the mic and worked hard to lose weight and be a credible singles guy. I think it's a little soon to push him to a main event for their biggest show, even if it is in Philly.

That's funny how what could be considered hardcore fans feel one way but the live audience bought completely into Jeff being back. That's why they don't listen to us. We really are a vocal minority.

Jeff was doing pretty good in TNA before his brother got there and it went to shit almost immediately after. TNA got maybe 6 good weeks out of both of them but once Jeff fell apart, Matt was right behind him.
Dixie is a forgiving soul so Matt might end up back but he's got to get his shit together.

Bully Ray has been much better than I ever would have expected especially following his lackluster singles run in the WWE.

Dixie's forgiveness is going to be the death of the company. If she focused more on the business and less on being nice the company would be in a much better position.Hell,Heyman would be running shit right now instead of the Russo,Bischoff,Hogan trinity of company death that has this company going with no real direction or upward movement. But she couldn't hand the reigns of hiring/firing people over to him.And while many people would have lost their jobs if Heyman taken over the chances are that it wouldn't be any more than all the people who have come and gone over the last year and a half anyway.

By the way what do you guys think of this new startup promotion WRP,Wrestling Revolution Project.Right now they announcing people who have signed on one at a time, one wrestler a day.So far they have some guys with talent.
The roster thus far is:Colt Cabana,Kenny Omega,Ken Doane(aka Kenny from the Spirit Squad),Len Olson(aka Dr. Luther),Alex Zilkos (aka Alex Reynolds) and MVP.

Yep on Ray.

I commend Dixie for her loyalty but she needs to let some of that go. She should be loyal to people that produce which wouldn't include Russo.

No opinion yet. There seems to be a start up every year and half of them don't ever have a single show. We'll see.

So the Brand Extension and CM Punk's push are over in the same night?

Punk-HHH could have been built up to be a big Mania match so something happened with Nash and his physical for them to hot shot it for Night of Champions.

Combining the two shows because SD isn't drawing at house shows is going to cost some people their jobs. Where does that leave Tyson Kidd? Heath Slater? Ted Dibiase?

HHH will either bury punk or do the surprising thing and let him win, but if Punk wins it won't be clean. I hated the whole "pipe bomb" line at the end because it's like he's telling you he just crossed the line instead of the crowd knowing he did. Cena vs Henry is blah to me because this is just their way of him slaying another monster, but as you know Dave because of our prior debate i love the somewhat end of the BE.

I thought you would. I actually thought of you when I got word of it.

Punk beating HHH won't have the same significance now than if they had waited and dragged it out. I wonder what's wrong with Nash that they won't be using him in the ring?
Henry will still be Randy Orton's monster to slay. I know why Alberto wasn't there but why would they do anything with him not involving Mark Henry, the number one contender?
They have a bunch of guys floating around now and not just the ones I mentioned (what happened to Alex Riley's push?).

The best thing about Raw was Nash coming out to the NWO theme, which imo is the greatest theme ever with "Jive Soul Bro" coming in at #2:yes:

I got the Road Warriors coming out to "Iron Man" over both but damn if "Jive Soul Bro" isn't one of the greatest theme songs ever. But it needs Slick dancing with Akeem to make it complete.

I guess we should of saw the end of the brand extension coming when they stopped calling the videogames "Smackdown vs. Raw".

Alex Riley got a video package last night detailing his "redemption" so I expect a push for him soon....I wish he could have more street fights with the Miz tho cause them shits looked real as hell

Yeah they did. It's uncommon in this current era to see two young guys (Riley is a prototypical white meat babyface type) laying it that solid.
They better hurry up. Riley is losing all the momentum he had off the Miz feud. He's not even feuding with Ziggler for the US title.

If they had stopped taking all the top stars off SD, it would draw better. Every time someone got hot (Vicki, Del Rio, Dolph, Kofi, Mark Henry on the previous Draft), they moved them to Raw and usually fucked it up. If you treat Smackdown as developmental, don't you think the fans will too? You know Cody's going to Raw at the next Draft. I hope he gets in a feud with Booker before he goes.

I got the Road Warriors coming out to "Iron Man" over both but damn if "Jive Soul Bro" isn't one of the greatest theme songs ever. But it needs Slick dancing with Akeem to make it complete.

Slick is one of my favorites and he along with Heenan were the definition of managers back when Vince actually gave a damn about them. Truth be told he needs to bring them back because how long would Umaga have lasted if he didn't have AAE with him?

You know I agree. Considering how important managers have been (in the old WWWF, every heel had a manager even if they could cut their own promos), it's just stunning that neither of the national companies uses them. Vickie is the closest and she gets great heat. When Michael Cole was playing more of a character, he showed how much heat a manager type could get.

Back to theme musics for a sec

on my Fave Five would be Mark Henry's music (3-6 Mafia gave him a gift), the old Midnight Express theme, and the entrance music for Doom (I already named the other two).
