Way more potential for him in AEW. Going to WWE would make absolutely no sense:
That was a sarcastic remark that AEW would only crown a Black heavyweight champion during Black History Month or On the Juneteenth HolidayIt wouldn't be that soon. AEW treats it's championship like New Japan does. Usually it's at least 8 months to a year title reigns for the champion. If Jay signed with AEW he would have to wait in line behind Hangman, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, MJF, Miro, etc. It would probably be at three years before could be in a position to be champion unless he blows Tony out of the water with his in ring and promo work. He would really have to do some amazing work to jump the line over the guys I mentioned above.

That's a bit before my time. I remember when Earthquake did his squash finisher on Hogan and I thought Hogans career was over. Hogan got stretchered off and was holding his chain with the crucifix on it.Whenever the question "What got you interested in pro wrestling?" comes up. I think of these two events here. I just knew seeing Dusty getting attacked was real.

Yeah that got me too, especially how they were showing reactions from the audience likeThat's a bit before my time. I remember when Earthquake did his squash finisher on Hogan and I thought Hogans career was over. Hogan got stretchered off and was holding his chain with the crucifix on it.
It makes sense cause the man has a mortgage and mouths to feed! Most people that sign with WWE don't like their status, but they realize they can max out and command a "lighter" schedule at the tail end of their career i.e. AJ Styles and Samoa Joe
That was before Nick Kahn came on board when Vince was giving out money to any and everybody to keep them from going to AEW.
Now, there's only a handful of guys on the roster that they'll do that shit for. They'll do that shit for AJ, Finn or Kevin Owens, guys who could leave and the wrestling community would go nuclear.
But for a guy that's never been there, doesn't really fit the WWE mold, and isn't built like a football player, no.
Vince is not going to give a shit about Jay Lethal going to AEW to the point where he'll give him a bag.
Plus, that WWE check ain't guaranteed anyway, especially to somebody they have no use for.
They gave Braun everything he wanted, and fired him. Then they fired Bray. That's two main eventers, in a time where they really need main eventers. Joe was gone.
So obviously they don't care about them going to AEW anymore except for maybe a few guys.
They had that one media call where they were like "hell, we might send some more people over there", and I think that was the week before they fired Bray and all them NXT people.
There's no point in going to WWE when AEW's offering competitive pay and a lighter schedule from jump, plus you avoid the toxic atmosphere curated by Vince.
I respectively disagree in the aspect of wrestlers wanting to sign with WWE over other promotions. In WWE you have the potential to make more money just from the machine they have behind them. Apparel (you can possibly keep more money in AEW, but WWE deals in volume with their apparel) and exposure in other aspects of entertainment/sports.
But as I said earlier, No! Vince isn't looking for a Jay Lethal, he already has a R-Truth and Ricochet!
Anyone seen her Onlyfans page..?
I don’t disagree with none of this I’m just saying they ain’t putting that title on him especially before Punk, Danielson and the list of the other wrestlers you listed. He’s gonna be 50 by the time his shot comes around lol.Just because it took WWE 67 years to find four brothers out of dozens to put the WWE title on, that doesn't mean AEW is going to be the same way.
Honestly, none of the brothers they have so far are main event draws yet. But if they were to get Jay Lethal or Keith Lee, two beloved black indy vets that already have relationships with the Elite, and don't really need any polish, those are two guys they could instantly shoot up the card and either one of them could be AEW champion within two years of signing.
You put either of them in a main event versus Kenny, Danielson, Punk, Cole, Darby, Cody, Hangman, Mox, etc., like next week, that main event gone slap.
Way more potential for him in AEW. Going to WWE would make absolutely no sense:
1) They don't want him - they literally just said no short people and no more people in their 30s, and no indy style. He's like 35.
2) Money ain't guaranteed. He'll go from one company that abruptly shortened his contract to another company that will do the exact same thing for "budget cuts" despite being in the green all year.
3) He'll be reduced to a goofball gimmick, a racial gimmick or a generic one. See Ricochet, Apollo and Keith Lee.
4) And his ceiling will be that MAYBE he'll have a AJ Styles feud where they'll VAGUELY mention their TNA past.
And that's it. There is nothing there for that man.
If I remember right Starks got an offer after the AEW opportunity so he probably figured that the WWE was on some bullshit which they probably were on. He's done ok on AEW with plenty of room and opportunity to matter there. Too bad that he's also gotten a broken neck in his time in AEW. WWE or the opportunity to be an EVP with a new promotion funded by a billionaire where we can probably do whatever the fuck we want. Of course the Bucks went to AEW.Whatever the difference in money is tho, is that amount worth having to work with that shitty ass booking, on top of the lack of job security.
Because it wasn't enough to keep Moxley, Adam Cole and Daniel Bryan from walking away, and it wasn't enough to lure Britt Baker, Ricky Starks and the Bucks who all got WWE offers and turned them down.
