The same way him and Carl got surrounded on the farm right after he killed Shane. The walkers are slow and dumb, they are easy to get around.
They also never show the RV surrounded, they flash away just as the walkers get to the RV.

You can look at pretty much every Comic Con trailer they put out as further proof.
The S4 CC trailer had Michonne saying that Rick is losing the war, watch the episode and she is talked about his beard and hands him a shaver.
This years CC trailer made it look like Rick and Morgan were going to go to war with each other, yet that has not happened.
