The standard rate at Black barbershops is now $35-$40

I go all the way back Uptown to my barber for over 30 years. He charges $25 for kids and $35 for adults. He added $5 after COVID. By the time I take my 2 sons, that shit is like a dinner bill with the $15 tip.

I wonder if these barbers (not stylists...barbers) are gaming the system? Are they get same amount of money but doing fewer cuts.

I used to go to barber ever week when I was younger
then it went to every other week
now it's about once a month.

I am spending about the same all things considered
Yeah go once a month or twice depending on how my shit looking.
It's appointments only for my barber now and he may be cutting less but mostly definitely making the same or a bit more with less people.

Learned how to cut my sons' hair real quick. It would have cost 4 of us $125, now it's just me...$25 plus $2-$5 depending on how I feel.

Haven't been to a Barbershop since I was about 15 years old. I use to be the neighborhood barber back in the early 90s charging people $7 to get $10. 46 years old now still cutting my own but not anyone else. Might have to open shop back up looking at what the going rates are now

It’s because of all this special shit they trying to use now. Hair fibers, enhancements, products and all types of shit. I’m in the wrong damn business. Lol! One cat even had the nerve to still charge for snacks. GTFOH lol

It's not the cost for me, it's the lack of professionalism! Dudes are charging full price for basic cuts. They are not well trained! They are slow. Don't know how to use a razor! They are rude! Inconsistent! They can't keep up how many they have waiting! It's very frustrating!

My old barber could give you the cut you wanted but fit it to your head. Not these new cats! The point of a barber to me is that he can make you look like a king when you're just Bobby from around the way!

We have to demand better!

Real talk, I have a graduate degree but my barber makes more than me. He charges $35.00 for 45 minutes, and expects a tip. Moreover, despite my appointment time, he's always late. He'll come to your home and cut your hair/beard on some V.I.P. shit for $100. He makes bank.

One day I only had $40.00 on me. I needed some coffee after my cut before work so I didnt tip him. The next time Style Cutz, the app I use to book appointments with him, said it was going to automatically deduct $42.50 from my card for my cut. I get my hair cut once a week.

If I cancel my appointment 24 hours out I get charged $20. If something comes up and I cancel less than 24 hours out I get charged full price. Meanwhile, if he cancels less than 24 hours out I dont get a refund/rebate off my next cut.

It's a scam. There's a Puerto Rican shop not too far from where I live. "Yankee Barbershop" for those in Columbus, Ohio. No appointment necessary and they only charge $20 per cut. For real, for real, fuck his Black Business, Im about to start fucking with them again.

$45 my last cut in atlanta. Same gripes as above: rude, takes forever, expects a nice tip. I got a sponge fade so it’s really just sides, fade the back and line it up. :smh: No way I’m spending $200 on fades.
:lol:Fug dat!
Same haircut I get, fam.
No way in hell that shit is worth $45. :smh:
What a joke.
At most its worth $15.

Yeah. What’s going to happen is those Vietnamese folks are going to start opening up shops in every major city and charge $20. I saw a video where bamas was mad and started going to some Vietnamese spot that catered to black clientele. The black barbers was heated. The Vietnamese folks was charging $20 and the black barbers tried to come up in there shame the patrons for not supporting black businesses. I believe this happened in Philadelphia. Once it starts happening everywhere it’s going to be a problem because those Vietnamese bamas could cut hair good. Not that old military shit they was doing in the 80’s these could really cut. I was like o’ snap!

Edit: I pay $45 with tip. I use the “The Cut”. I like using it because I don’t need to carry cash or use cash app to pay the barber but still. I remember when fades was $7.00 in the hood in S.E. Washington, DC in the 80’s. Lol. I remember Kenny & Paul’s was like $10 or something on Martin Luther King Ave in S.E. Washington, DC. However, that’s where all the drug dealers went and you never know when shit would pop-off in there. Bamas got clipped in that bitch *no pun intended* when I was coming up.

Nah the Dominicans would be the biggest threats.. everybody in nyc know those nigs got the game on lock.. there’s def black barbershops that get money and get clientele..but people know them Dominicans are nice with it.. now if they started expanding their enterprise out of state they would kill the game with cheaper cuts and quality.. no way I’m trusting some Asian with a cut.. well actually I don’t have that problem cause I been cutting my own hair since 15.. but if you go with skill set blacks and Dominicans

Why did u trust him?

everybody knows to never truss him

I gladly pay my barber $45-$50 when I get a cut. Comes to my crib and can make an appointment. Have no issues

Its not just the price now honestly. Its the professionalism. A lot of dudes in downtown atlanta be stopping to take calls, eat, try to holla at chicks that walk by, and other bullshit.

It was ok when I was young and could waste the time, but dealing with corp america all day and then this? nah, not worth it. Ive had 1 haircut since quarantine began and the dude did all the above. Im lucky in that I work a job where I dont have to show myself. I can wait until next year before getting another cut...:dunno:

That’s different and you know it. A house call is worth $50. But if the nigga watchin Netflix when I walk and I gotta wait while they argue blown calls by referees; $50 for a taper and line-up is insane.

Simplify your look and make it affordable for you to manage yourself.

Barbershops are for special occasions. Black folks for some reason take hair care way to far because some racist white or ignorant black person will say it's nappy.

Asians and Dominicans have just peeped game and want in on the money. Hair salons and Barbershops are disproportionately too much of the black economy.

If you need to be pretty and get your "hair done" more frequently than a woman, you will eventually be broke like a bitch.

Nothing wrong with keeping yourself up but spending money that you could use to make your bank account/home/investment look good is the new sexy.

In Charlotte, it's $15 plus I tip $5 so an even $20.

I rock a skin tight fade, I keep myself shaved so the barber never shaves my face.

Before COVID I would see the barber every 3 to 4 weeks. Now it's like every 3 to 4 months.

Do you go to the shop that’s downtown Charlotte? Real nice establishment, serves you beer why you wait? One of the best cuts I got was at that shop.
