The Official 2025 And Beyond WNBA Season/Women's Basketball Thread

3 point contest is more popular than the dunk contest now
I’m not even saying that I wouldn’t like to see women dunking because I would. I’m just saying that I don’t think that it’ll revolutionize women’s basketball like those who say to lower the rims think it would.

2 of the top 3 most popular hoopers on the planet aren't dunkers
Steph and Caitlin

One thing about me is that I'm honest.

No Jordan wouldn't be as popular without the dunks. He's "Air" Jordan. Nobody's interested in seeing him jump high on his jumper! :roflmao:

But there's differences vs men's and women's sports and we've all come to accept that.

Women's softball/baseball doesn't have as many home-runs as men's.

Women's boxing doesn't have as many knockouts as men.

Different sexes have different power and attributes and that's just nature. And we've come to accept that.

If the lowered the rim for 8th and 9th graders, then dunking wouldn't be more exciting to watch.

Quick question, is this really that exciting to watch?

Ok, now we talking.

In softball, you can see homeruns in a game. It doesn't have to be 10 of them. There are plenty baseball games that don't have homeruns, but it's an element and it's explosive when it happens. Way more than dunks in a WNBA game. The baselines are also shorter to give the women a chance to be athletic and look faster. I miss nothing when I watch softball. Especially when I watch my Lady Vols.

In women's boxing, I have seen plenty of chicks get their lights turned out. The overall problem is that knockouts are down in the sport in general which is why UFC is more popular now than boxing.

Women play fewer sets in tournaments than men because of the endurance level and that shit is great. Again, you miss nothing.

The nets are lowered in volleyball so that women can look like they are flying just like the men do. I miss nothing.

Shit, that video had me rivetted and that was just some random muhfuckas at some random gym. I'm up here talking bout some "BOOM" every time one of them 5 foot ass dudes yoked one! Imagine if that was Page Buckets or Aja. Can you imagine if Angel catch Caitlin on a switch!?! Crotch on the 4head! What if JuJu or Caitlin was able to step over half court and jack one. You talk about putting on a show! The show is what gets eyeballs. You want more eyeballs. Everybody is not going to be able to dunk. You just want to increase the percentage from say 1% to 60%. It would create more highlights for sure. They also need to start the league after the NBA season. Baseball is way easier to compete with than the NBA.

Real talk that video looked like back in the day when I played in the NBA........

The Neighborhood Basketball Association.

The League and Networks haven't learned shit from last season.
They had Monday and Wednesday.
But did they split some of tonight's games for those days?

Trust me I hear and feel where you're coming from, but I just don't see women dunking making that huge of an impact for viewers.

Especially viewers who say that they don't watch because the women don't dunk.

Now I could be 100 percent wrong! Maybe people do need to see dunks to make it more exciting and entertaining, I just don't think so.

And you got me when you said that you were a former NBA player, until I read the bottom

I can't believe in the year 2025 the "lower the rims" talk is still happening.

Dunking aint what it used to be, even in the NBA. The days of Jordan, Dominique and Vince are long gone. When you look at a game, you might see 1 or 2 good dunks a game. The rest are blah and over hyped.

For the past 15 years the 3-point shot is the new highlight that gets the crowd excited (shout out to Steph). Think about how many times you hear "From the Logo" during a game versus any dunk reference. People like to see shooting and that's the women's game.

Now, there are women who can dunk (in college and the pros), but they don't. They choose to play the game below the rim, like it always has been. But as I've seen @REDLINE mention, dunking won't move the needle with fans of the W. They tune into see the shooting and the skills these women have. Not just to see if someone dunks.

Then only 2 of the 6 games are nationally televised on NBATV so they could have easily scheduled these games for different times or days
