The military's real problem: Fewer Americans are joining

A 23 year Major would have had to have more than a decade of time as an enlisted Soldier or he wouldn't exist. They would have kicked him out way before he hit that mark. Even if he did have the enlisted time I mentioned above, he would never get promoted beyond that. There are one stars with less than 23 years in service.

This is the state of today's Army. With all the programs for trimming the fat out there, they would have cut their losses on MAJ Funbags first chance they got.

Mello Mello, 18 Series (or Career Management Field 18) is the Range of MOS's that are Special Forces Qualified.

On this board, we have one 18Z (myself), and 18B and 18C respectively. As far as I know, we are the only SF Soldiers here.

The 23 yr Major that I'm referring to is the author of this article. My point is he "knowingly" left out a lot to make his point. Additionally, time in service will never equal rank or pay grade. When it's your time, it your time...that's going up the food chain and getting out.

Not

Not true. A 23 year MAJ is a FAILURE in the military. 1) He will not retire as at least a LTC 2) Unless, he was prior enlisted, he was passed over at least once at EACH Rank beyond 1LT. He would only kept in the Army because we needed MAJs as staff bitches during the surge. As soon as ESERB,OSB, QMP and QSP came back, he would be shitcanned.

So in that vein, time in service very much does equal rank and pay grade. The AVERAGE Major has around 9-11 years in service.

I agree with you about the article, though. That's not really what my comments are about. People write shit like this all the time.

So that guy who wrote the article is going to ignore the mandatory draw downs. And forced reductions and much lower recruiting targets that have been established the last years? If they want more bodies in the military then they will expand the numbers again and they will easily get them to.
Bruh, I was jut about to say this shit!! The forced discharges and retirements! And we just talking about the Army, the Air Force is almost in a hiring freeze. This article is 100% bullshit.

John Spencer is a major in the U.S. Army and scholar with the Modern War Institute at the United States Military Academy at West Point. An infantryman for the past 23 years, he has held the ranks of private to sergeant first class, and lieutenant to major while serving in ranger, airborne, light, and mechanized infantry units.

Did you read the article?

We're talking about 2 different things obviously...as you stated he pulled the majority of his time enlisted. To start as a private and retire as a Major is a success in my book.

Now, I don't know how much time you've put in...these aren't jabs at you...but this "Staff Bitch" works at West Point and I'm sure he's going keep writing this type of BS when he retires...shit he'll probably do correspondence for CNN:hmm:

that AINT the militaries real problem

their REAL PROBLEM lies with private miltary

companies like XE they weild more power on battlefields

and dont have to succumb to military rules and regulations..

what they get away with would blow your mind if it ever come out...

We're not talking about the same thing, but very similar. This Major could work as Obama's military Liason and he would still be a Staff Bitch. It's all BITCH work being done between KD time and Command. Him working at West Point actually stacks him up as less than his peers instructing at CGSC/ILE.

Like I said the Article means jack shit to me. I know it's bullshit. I'm talking about a snapshot of the guys career at a glance. As long as he knows....

Little tip, most Senior NCOs who decide to commission are usually not great NCOs. They cross over to cover that fact up in a LOT of cases. Hearing that a guy became an officer after being an SFC actually makes people look at you funny.

Tip-I agree

As for him...he'd disagree...lol

Break it down, find this conversation interesting, but hard to follow specifics...

Had to go back and look at the whole post again. There were a lot of things in the post that rang incorrect, or outright untrue.

Not at all Mello's fault. I think he was talking to someone who was embellishing.... a lot.

He was talking to someone who claims to be a "Shooter" in SF. The thing about that is, we're all shooters. That in itself doesn't verify anyone. Sounds kind of juvenile to even refer to yourself like that in my opinion. In my current organization, we use the term Assaulter in any brief or document we generate for outside organizations. We have other terms for those known to Us.

The comment about SF sucking up all the ammo; that just sounds like something a private would say. Group shoots ALOT of ammo. No where near enough to break the bank on the military ammunition supply and that would be if you're including Delta in that count. Seeing as I'm more than familiar with that, just trust me. If the Big Army units are hurting for ammo, their higher level ammo account managers need to get on the ball. Me being a "fuck it, I do what I want" kind of dude, I would ask for a STRAC increase and just get my unit more annual allocation. The bullets are there and already allotted for TRAINING. The deployable stuff falls under another pot of money.

There is also the comment of the guy being in for 3 years. We do have some 18X candidates that came through from PVT up until the finish the Q as a SGT. They hold those guys up at certain phases because they don't have the time in service to be promoted. It does usually take us 30-36 months to make a SF NCO out of someone under this program. The thing is, they don't know shit and all their real education comes when they get to their first ODA. A lot of the shit I am talking about they will learn there and either teaching at SWCS or in another assignment within the community after their initial utilization on a Team. If they looked around their community, they would see that there are more blacks in SF than there have been since Vietnam. But you have to actually know what you're talking about to see it like that.

Watched deadly military MOS go from blacks and hispanics to mostly whites over night after 9/11...Expect a monumental event to happen exactly when needed..In the day it had to be quite unnerving to know yur armed force killers were mainly brown folks.
