The Hungry Black Man

LATE NIGHT ANGRY POST! Why ya'll think these things keep happening to ME? Like, seriously. So, I was invited to this non-Black owned restaurant to support a chef who recently started a new job as an executive chef. So, I am sitting at my table when this non-Black woman leans over HER booth and says, "I love your hair". I said thank you. Then she comes back over and says, "If I were Black, I would definitely have Dreadlocks (Yes, I wanted to shout to the top of my lungs in her mid sentence, which was already offensive, as we do not refer to our hair as "dreadlocks", but simply "locs", there is nothing DREADFUL about my hair). It is great that you guys can be free to have your hair anyway you want it. Don't let anybody tell you anything different. You people have beautiful hair." I did not sit there and smile. I WENT OFF ON HER. It turned into a scene and I ended up leaving. I don't understand why can't some folks just leave people alone. Her husband was trying to intervene and had the audacity to say, "Brother, learn how to take a compliment.” I don't understand at times, why ME of all people do these things happen. If you are non-Black, please just let Black people exist. Just don't say anything about our bodies, hair, or any attribute. We are humans. You can speak to us about all the crazy shit going on in this world without commenting on our appearance, bodies, or hair. Just don't. Please and thank you.
