** The HBO Series "The Wire" Question & Answer Thread **

I don't think they knew that Dozerman was undercover, they just saw a corny looking White boy who wanted to buy a bunch of weight and decided to rob that nigga. He dated a Black chick, so you know he was one of those therealjondoe-type wiggers who think they're down and it was obvious to real niggas that he was out of place.

Don't think anyone can answer this but how did Marlo & Chris Partlow start out? (Was implied Chris was from the south right?) Marlo is really young compared to Chris, would love if they explained how they meet or even how Chris turned into that cold killer (besides the killing part he seemed like a cool dude, not a sociopath like Marlo)

In some commentary, David Simon said Chris was also molested, and that's why he beat the shit outta Bug's dad when Mike told him about how he molested him before going to jail. I guess Chris pictured Bug's dad as the guy who molested him.

I figured that out.

Marlo came up in the game like Avon except he didn't have fam like Avon, he came up the hardway. Remember in season 3 when they were trying to see who he was down with, they had like 7 bodies on that nigga with his trademark "2 to the chest, 1 to the mouth" shit.

Chris, on the other hand, I believe was military. I don't think he was THAT much older than Marlo, just more mature. If you look at the shit Chris did, he screams ex-military to me. Plus, outside of actual murder, he was a regular dude. He wasn't like Snoop or Marlo. He didn't care about his name. This shit was just business to him. My favorite scene in the Wire is when Chris is fucking with the radio and "Lean wit it, Rock wit it" comes on and he starts jigging a lil bit. He was very human.

some good shit in here.

just for trivial purposes, D'angelo Barksdale (Larry Gilliard Jr) is married to the Baltimore Sun Newspaper Reporter in season 5 Alma Gutierrez (Michelle Paress) in real life.

Was Commissioner Willian Rawls gay?
Remember this scene where Brother Mouzone & Lamar were searching for Omar at that gay bar? (Skip to the 3:00min mark. You'll see him at the 4:20 mark)

He wasn't gay! He was on an undercover sting operation.

It's one of my all time favs too. But yo the box set at Best Buy is expensive as hell.

i caught the box set this time last year at bestbuy.com for 50 bucks it was on back order had to wait for like a month but it was still cheap imo. I recently saw it at Costco for 90.

Yeah, Chris was definitely ex-military. You don't learn how to clear rooms they way he did by just being on the streets. That scene where they bust into that room looking to Omar or where he and Snoop are straight up training Michael, lets you know Chris was skilled.

One of the more obscure side stories that I find funny as shit, was when the dock workers sent Lt. Valcheck's brand new crime scene van on a world tour(stuck it in a shipping container and sent that bitch off an a global voyage). Every episode that season, you'd seen him getting a post card from a different port, with the workers posing with his shit.:lol::lol::lol:

I got another one:

I don't understand how the Vondas gave Marlo the ok to take out Joe. Did it have anything to do with Omar robbing the re-up? As far as I can remember Vondas and the Greek preferred dealing with Joe.

They pretty much read in Marlo's eyes and behavior that he wasn't going to stop pressing for that connect. And a war in the streets is bad business for them. After season 2, they pretty much pulled all their manpower out the streets of Bmore and went straight wholesale, so they were not going to get involved in a war.

they didn't care who their dealt with as long as they got their money and their identity was kept discrete.

They did care who they dealt with and they WANTED to keep dealing with Joe cuz he was a known value. However, Marlo kept coming back, so they saw the writing on the wall, and accepted it. The 'Greek' said something like "we keep telling him no, but he keeps coming back. This, he has shown us"

They could either stick up for Joe or let the streets play themselves out. That they chose the latter shows how they really felt about Joe: They didn't give a fuck about him.

When were they anything but wholesale when it came to drugs?

Sergei on the streets running muscle. Direct deals with "White" Mike along with other dealers, the Israeli nigga ran drugs too. You ain't never caught Greek or Vondas in the street but during season 2, their men were right there. By Season 5? Not anymore.

Vondas was involved in a lot of shit besides dope. He was into electronics and whores too. I remember when Sergei got knocked he was snitching but I don't remember him mentioning Vondas though

This part really pissed me off

I wish the Avon vs Marlo beef could have lasted longer. I wonder who would have won in the end if things were snitch free

WORD I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE EXPANDED ON THAT ON ANGLE.

the series pretty much went downhill when season three ended.

Yea, that's right, they did run White Mike rather than just supplying him. And I know they did more than dope, they did everything through that port-dope, electronics, even people.

They skipped town when the heat came down at the end of season 2, but I'm not convinced they stayed completely out of the streets when they came back, the story just didn't focus on them. They only showed their business with Prop Joe, but it looked to me like the heat had blown over and their operation was back and running like before.

"The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence"

Sergei had nothing on them. When the skipped town, The Greek was like "...and I'm not even Greek" as they rode off into the sunset. Wish the cops woulda actually got them, but I guess they had to keep it real

Avon would've won. Remember, Slim Charles and the hit crew had the scope on Marlo with no muscle at a meet but didn't hit him because Avon never gave the go-ahead because he was getting arrested. Marlo was close to death and didn't know it.

Nah, they had Vondas dead to rights. They let him stay on the street to see if he would lead them to the Greek. Then they got away.

Yeah, she was at the Officer wake of McNulty looking fine as hell. Freeman caped a "good" one. But then again, it is tv.

Squeak was NOT Shardene. Squeak was that funny-faced broad from Season 3.

Wasn't she the girl who's boyfriend's job was to buy the cellphones?

see i got slim still hitting them without the go ahead cus they was sitting duck but it was tv

question..what was stringer changing in the back of his cell phone? and was it effective because it looked like the cops still was able to tap his cell?

^^^ What happened was String used the same SIM card too many times in a row. They were able to scan the neighborhood (airwaves) for cell phones in use when they KNOW String is using it, after 3 calls, only one number showed up each time that: that was Strings.

Switching the SIM cards was effective, he just didn't do it often enough....mainly because he didn't know cops had that kind of technology.

Yea marlo was a green light/shoot on site situation

OK, so let me clear this timeline up. Slim first calls in (Avon is at the funeral home) and reports that he sees Marlo at the rim shop and there IS muscle there. Avon and the crew then go to the safe house to tool up. While at the safe house, Slim calls again to let them know that most of the muscle has left, but Chris and someone else is still there, so Slim couldn't just roll up on his own. Avon says let's go, but then the cops knock on the door. Slim calls again to let them know Marlo is leaving, but no one can answer cuz they're being arrested. Even without the cops showing up, Avon would've never made it in time to get Marlo.

However, I do agree that Barksdale would've won. If String didn't snitch, they woulda got Marlo another time. Marlo just took his crew off the street, but Avon was actively seeking that nicca out.

Nah. There's no way Avon would've let Marlo get away even if it meant that he and the hit squad wouldn't have got to do it themselves. you gotta remember, Marlo was there with NO muscle after being secret serviced like the President for weeks. This was they first (and possibly last) fuck up like this. Avon answers that phone and Slim says they leaving and Avon know Marlo ain't got no muscle? Slim and them other niggas were MORE than capable of taking care of it and would, as it was only Chris and Marlo.

they'd have never even gotten THAT far if not for Squeak though.

Nah he was the definition of a soldier 100%. Dude ALWAYS respected the chain of command and never made one move that he didnt have the green light on. That's why I say Slim was the most stand up dude on the show.
