Trinitarios gang member accused of butchering a 15-year-old boy outside a New York City bodega along with 13 others carries a book about 'how to kill a prosecutor' into a court hearing

A gang member suspected of brutally murdering a 15-year-old boy outside a Bronx bodega turned up to court on Monday with a true crime book about a prosecutor's murder. Kevin Alvarez, 19, is one of 14 believed Trinitarios gang members who dragged Lesandro Guzman-Feliz out of a New York convenience store and stabbed him to death in the street, in June 2018. Appearing at the Bronx Supreme Court on the same day as nine others of his purported co-murderers, Alvarez was pictured carrying a book titled 'In Plain Sight: The Kaufman County Prosecutor Murders'. Written by Kathryn Casey, the book details the brutal the murders of two Texas prosecutors, carried out by a former lawyer who enacted revenge on those responsible for convicting him of theft. Alvarez smugly displayed the book's front cover behind his back on Monday morning, directing it towards the prosecution bench.

THE BRONX (PIX11)- Bronx gang members have allegedly threatened prosecutors and a key witness in the ‘Justice for Junior’ murder trial, authorities said.
Defendants Diego Sureo and Frederick Then, alleged leaders of the Trinitarios gang, are on trial for murder in the slaying of 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz four years ago. Suero is accused of ordering the hit on the teen.
‘Still a lot of pain’: ‘Justice for Junior’ suspects set for trial in the Bronx after 4 years
Assistant District Attorney Morgan Dolan told the court she was confronted by a young, Dominican man on her way to the Bronx courthouse Wednesday morning before her security detail stepped in to handle the situation.

“He got in my face, but didn’t say anything,” said Dolan, adding the man continued to watch her and her colleague as they left.
On Tuesday, a group of Los Sures, a sect of the Trinitarios, were hanging out on a corner near the Bronx Hall of Justice during a lunch break after state witness Kevin Alvarez testified, authorities said. The group was allegedly waiting for the prosecutors and/or Alvarez.
“The people are treating this as a direct threat to the witness and prosecutors,” Dolan said. “Should a direct threat interfere with a witness, we will take action.”

Dolan told the court Suero called Alvarez a “rat” during his testimony Tuesday. The defense lawyers denied any knowledge of the threats or the “rat” comment.
But Supreme Court Justice Martin Marcus warned the defendants against any potential interference.
“An attempt to affect a witness in any way won’t be tolerated,” the judge said.
“That conduct will do you no good so you may want to deal with that if you can,” Marcus said of the gang members hanging around the courthouse.

‘Justice for Junior’ suspects ordered the slaying of a beloved Bronx teen 4 years ago: prosecutors say
In the courtroom, Alvarez continued his testimony about how Suero ordered his soldiers to hunt and kill Sunset gang members.
He said a “357” hit was put on Junior, meaning they were going to kill the teen.
After following Junior to the bodega, Alvarez and another member dragged him out and beat him. Alvarez said he repeatedly punched Junior.
“He said ‘stop,’” Alvarez said the teen told him.

On June 20, 2018, Junior was slain by a group of Trinitarios gang members at the corner of 183rd Street and Bathgate Avenue in Tremont. The teen was dragged out of a bodega and onto the street where he was stabbed with a knife and machete in a case of mistaken identity, authorities said.
The prosecution then played the video showing a bloody Junior staggering into the deli for help before being told to leave. The gash on his neck was dripping and left several pools of blood on the deli floor. The teen then exits the store and heads to St. Barnabas Hospital, leaving another bloody trail behind, the footage shows.
The video shook Alvarez.
He sat quietly staring at the monitor with his hand over his mouth for a few moments. Dolan asked if he needed a minute, but there was no answer. The judge then asked Alvarez if he wanted a break, and he eventually nodded.

At that point, just after the video was done, Junior’s mother, Leandra Feliz, walked into the courtroom.
When Alvarez returned to the stand, he said there was a “357” order on him, and the code would last the rest of his life.
“They wanna kill me,” he said.
The defense, however, tells a different story.
Suero’s lawyer, Lynn Calvacca, painted Alvarez as a liar with a troubled and complicated past, from dropping out of high school to being discharged from the Army. Alvarez also admitted he was also a member of the Bloods gang for around three years.
Calvacca attacked Alvarez’s credibility, using an interview he did with a newspaper while he was locked up. Alvarez told the reporter that he didn’t know the crew chasing Junior had weapons and that he was not a member of a gang.
He testified to the contrary on Tuesday.
“Yes, I lied to presume myself innocent, that was my right,” Alvarez repeatedly said in a testy exchange.
On cross-examination, Alvarez said he was never told to kill someone, but was ordered by Suero to hunt for Sunset gang members.
Calvacca also went after his plea agreement with the state. Alvarez pleaded guilty to manslaughter and conspiracy and was let off with time served. Alvarez previously testified that he made the deal because he regretted the incident and he wanted to help the victim’s family.
But Calvacca didn’t buy that, telling him, “you took the easy way out.”
Alvarez’s testimony resumes Thursday.

UPDATE: Diego Suero has been sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 25 years to life. Frederick Then has also been sentenced to 25 years to life.

Two more defendants found guilty in the murder of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz back in 2018 are being sentenced today.
The sentencing hearing for Diego Suero and Frederick Then took place at 11 a.m. at the Bronx County Hall of Justice. They're facing 25 years to life in prison for the murder of Junior.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said the two defendants are leaders of the Los Sures set of the Trinitarios gang responsible for the fatal stabbing of Junior. When the two were found guilty of second-degree murder back in July, the DA said they sent out the marching orders to go out and commit violence ending the life of the 15-year-old.
On June 20 in 2018, he was attacked by a group of gang members at a bodega on East 183rd Street and left for dead.
Five gang members are already serving time for murder convictions related to Junior.

Another member of the Trinitarios gang has been convicted in the killing of 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, who was brutally stabbed to death outside of a Bronx bodega in 2018.
Danel Fernandez, 25, pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter in Bronx Supreme Court on Tuesday for his role in the caught-on-camera slaying, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office announced.
He is the last of 13 defendants who were involved in the teen’s death. Fernandez will be sentenced to up to 18 years in prison and five years of supervised release, officials said.
“Although the defendant did not stab the victim, his actions led to the horrifying death of the innocent teen,” District Attorney Clark said in a statement.
“This brings an end to the case, but will never bring closure for Junior’s grieving family,” he said.

Fernandez, a member of the “Los Sures” set of the Trinitarios, was directed by leaders Diego Suero and Frederick Then — who were convicted of second-degree murder in July — to “commit violence” against members of the rival “Sunset” Trinitarios, according to officials.
He was among the group of gang members who chased Guzman-Feliz into a bodega on Bathgate Avenue and 183rd Street on June 20, 2018 after they mistook him as a member of the gang. The teen had no gang affiliation.
They attacked him inside of the store before dragging him out to the street, where five gang members repeatedly stabbed and hacked him to death with knives and machetes. Gruesome footage of the senseless murder went viral.

Five other gang members pleaded guilty for their roles in the murder earlier this month.

Jonaiki Martinez-Estrella, gang member resentenced in ‘Junior’ stabbing death, dies in prison

Jonaiki Martinez-Estrella, a convicted gang member recently resentenced in the murder of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz, has died in prison. He was 31 years old.
Documents released by the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision listed him as deceased. No details about his death have been provided.
News 12 reached out to DOCC but has not yet heard back.
Martinez-Estrella serving a 25 years to life with the possibility of parole for a second-degree murder charge.

The new sentencing came after the New York State Supreme Court tossed the first-degree murder conviction and wrote that prosecutors did not prove an essential element of the crime - that the defendant inflicted torture on Junior.
On the night of June 20, 2018, Lesandro 'Junior' Guzman-Feliz was fatally attacked outside a Bronx bodega. The 15-year-old was chased down the street, dragged out of the Belmont bodega where he sought refuge, and stabbed and slashed multiple times by his attackers, one of which used a machete. The entire attack was caught on surveillance video.

Mother of 14-year-old comforted by neighbors after 14-year-old son is fatally stabbed

The 14-year-old boy stabbed to death by a gang of teens in a Bronx playground appears to have been killed in a case of mistaken identity — with someone filming as he was pistol-whipped, beaten, and repeatedly knifed, according to police sources and prosecutors.

Ninth-grader Angel Mendoza was jumped by a mob of kids at the Williamsbridge Oval Playground in Norwood late Tuesday in revenge for an earlier fight that he was not involved in, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

Cellphone video captured the pack zeroing in on Mendoza before smashing him “in the face with a Taurus 9mm pistol” and then repeatedly striking and kicking him on “his head, face and body,” court documents state.

Cops are probing whether the suspects have any ties to the brutal Trinitarios gang, sources said.

Members of the same Bronx gang were behind the heinous 2018 caught-on-camera attack on 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, an aspiring-NYPD-cop teen butchered in a case of mistaken identity.

In the case of Mendoza, one of his attackers was filmed stabbing him “one time in the chest and one time in the abdomen,” the court documents said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the gang filmed the violence themselves or if it was captured by a bystander.

Either way, the youngster — who regularly hung out at the park — was likely just collateral damage given he was friends with two teens who had earlier clashed with the gang shortly before the bloodbath, sources said.

Mendoza wasn’t believed to have had any involvement in the earlier melee, which apparently saw another teen stabbed, according to the sources.

Cops found Mendoza clinging to life when they rushed to the blood-covered playground around 7:30 p.m.

He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center but was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m., police said.

A 17-year-old boy who was also stabbed in the shoulder and abdomen went to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, cops added.

Four teens — Andrew Ansah, 18, Jordan Williams, 18, and two boys, ages 15 and 16, whose names were not released because they are minors — have since been arrested and charged over the grisly killing.

They all face charges of murder, manslaughter and two counts each of gang assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Williams was arraigned at Bronx Criminal Court on Thursday, and Ansah was arraigned a day earlier. Both teens were held without bail, records show.

At least one knife and a firearm were recovered at the scene, according to court documents.

The victim lived just three blocks from the popular park and would regularly frequent the hotspot to play basketball, his family said.

As for Guzman-Feliz, he had tried to hide in a bodega just blocks from his home but was dragged out by his killers and savagely stabbed with knives and machetes.

Mendoza, the victim in the latest tragedy, lived just three blocks from the popular park where he was knifed to death and would regularly frequent the hotspot to play basketball, his family said.

“His lip was cut. His front teeth were broken like somebody hit him with a pistol. His face was bruised,” Mendoza’s grief-stricken dad, Miguel, told the Daily News of the moment he identified his son’s body.

“Everyone who was involved should be arrested. They can fight as much as they want without knives and guns,” he added.
